Lyric had enough of everything in his system—adrenaline and a little something else, mostly—that he realized he didn't particularly care. He couldn't remember what he'd been pissed off about anyway. She was beautiful, she was a good dancer, and her eyes said that she wanted more. His eyes narrowed slightly in suspicion, but there was music going and he was missing out on the fun. He let it go and pulled her tight again, his eyes stuck on hers as he resumed the dance. Maybe the look he gave her was a challenge, but it was for the fun of it, not for any residual animosity.

For a moment, their eyes locked. But the moment was gone as soon as Verity got swept away by the music. A new beat, still pounding through her. The closer she pressed to him, the smaller her movements became, but it was enough. The roll of her hips, the swift movement of her shoulders following along. Her curls were bouncing ever so lightly as she moved. Her elbows rested on his shoulders, her fingers getting tangled in his soft hair once again.

Leo had been hoping to find Verity, but he hadn't expected to find her in the arms of some tall, strange-looking guy. His eyes narrowed as he came up behind her and cleared his throat loudly. "I hope this isn't a bad time," he said, his voice low, just loud enough for Verity to hear him. What was she doing? She was with him.

Lyric lifted hazy, black-rimmed eyes to look at the moron who thought he was interrupting. "It's a f~ing great time," he said, "to go cut in on someone else." He was enjoying himself, and saw no reason to find another partner when this one was fitted so nicely against him. One of his hands curled up around her waist, but the other lifted just far enough to make a rude gesture.

Verity had barely heard the voice behind her, but when she heard the guy talking to someone else, she turned her head backwards to see who it was. When she saw who it was she pulled away from the guy she had been dancing with. Well, actually it was more like she jumped away. If her face hadn't been red already from dancing, it would have gotten ten times darker. "Leo!" She said surprised, although her voice was almost lost in the crowd. "Erm..hi!" She said uncomfortably. Her voice had gone up an octave higher than she intended for it to. Her eyes grew wide and she looked like she had been caught in the middle of a bank robbery or something. How much had he seen? "I-I didn't know you were here." She looked down, afraid to look him in the eye.

Leo glared at the guy, then brought his eyes back down to Verity. "Yeah," he said dismissively, then shook his head and went to leave, shoving the guy out of his way as he went. He wasn't normally confrontational in any physical way, but was she really thinking that he would accept the I didn't know you were here? What, was it okay to do that when he wasn't there but not when he was? He wasn't dealing with this, his first impression had been right, after all.

Lyric's brows drew together, and he grabbed the guy's arm, something he'd never have done sober. "You should have just walked away," he said, pulling his wand with his free hand. They were too close to have a proper duel, but he could do some major damage all the same. Fighting was reflex to him.

"Wait! Verity said. She felt like she was having deja-vu. Wait., she had said when they were at the lake. Only the circumstances were far more different. "Leo! Wait!" She said again. She slipped out of the guy's hold and ran after him, cursing her choice in footwear for the evening. They were barely off of the dance floor when she realized the guy was ahead of her. Before she knew it, his wand was out. "No!" She yelled. The last thing she wanted was a fight. She was shocked, unable to do more than stand there with wide eyes.

"You can take her," Leo said, pulling at his arm. "I don't want her if she's going to turn on me the second she doesn't know I'm there." His eyes hovered on the wand for a second before looking up at the guy. "Sorry for pushing you." Now let me go. He wanted to leave to lick his wounded pride and remind himself exactly why he had never had a girlfriend in the first place.

Lyric threw the guy's arm away from him. "Get the f~ out of my sight," he said, as though the guy wasn't trying to do exactly that. He held up his wand a moment longer, then tucked it back into his waistband. He turned and his eyes met the violet ones of the girl so close. Well? his eyes seemed to say. If she followed the other guy, he'd go find something else to do, it wasn't anything more than that.

Verity felt like she had been slapped in the face. No, not slapped in the face...more like run over by a Mack Truck. And then stomped on a million times. And then slapped in the face. "Leo, please." She pleaded. "It's not like that." She took a deep breath and closed her eyes. "I can explain." She said opening her eyes. She bit down on her lip hard. Even as tears welled up in her eyes, there was no way she would let herself cry in public. She looked from the guy, with his brown questioning eyes, and back to Leo. She was only having fun, she never meant for it to go as far as it did. Her eyes were fixed on Leo as she repeated silent prayers that he would only listen for a moment.

Leo turned to look at Verity and shrugged. "Why should I listen? I saw it. It's not like we were together long enough for it to matter." He waved his hand away and shook his head before turning to leave again. They hadn't been together long enough for anything to happy, well, anything other than high hopes. Something like this was what he had been hoping to avoid.

Verity's jaw dropped. "Is that what you think?" She asked. She was hurt and it was becoming more evident as the buzz from dancing wore off. She didn't even look at the other guy as she brushed passed him and closer to Leo. "That it didn't matter?" She shook her head. "You're wrong." She said shakily. "Please, can't we talk about this?" Her voice cracked at the end of that question. She was desperate, foolish, naive. Her fingers touched his arm lightly. "Please?" She looked at him with her wide amethyst eyes.

"I first met you and thought you were a self-absorbed brat," Leo said, leaving his arm where it was for the moment. "I let you prove me wrong. Two weeks later and you're all over someone else." He flicked a glance back over at where the guy had been, then over at Verity, before pulling away again. It wasn't worth it, whatever had happened at the lake wasn't worth the chance she was going to go off and do stuff behind his back.

Verity's desperation was slowly transforming into frustration. "We were just dancing." She insisted. Although, she realized she was talking to his back. Verity ran to catch up with him, but paused cursing her choice of footwear once again. Screw it. She thought and she bent down and took her shoes off. She held them in her right hand and ran to catch up. It was so much easier for her to do so in bare feet. "It meant nothing. It was nothing." Verity said. She looked up at him as she was now walking along his side. "That," She said gesturing in the general direction of the crowd where she had left the guy, "didn't matter. You do."
