((OOC: This was suppoed to be originally posted in the forest and not the lake...woops sorry))
Vannah slipped out of the castle after hours. It was a lot easier than she expected it to be. In order to get outside, she had to wind through the dungeons, up a few flights of stairs, and through a few corridors before she even reached the Entrance Hall. The entire time she was doing that, she only had seen one professor, two houselves, and a ghost. Luckily, none of them saw her. After she got out of the castle, she still managed to slip down the hill and past the hut into the Forest.
The sky was nearly pitch black when Vannah went into the forest. After she made sure she was in too deep to be seen by anyone hanging out around the edge of the forest, she slipped her wand out and lit the tip of it. The darkness frightened her, but not to the point where she would turn and go back. She couldn't sleep and nothing in the Common Room seemed interesting enough to keep her from staying there. The many creatures from the forest howled and groaned in the darkness. Vannah envied how free they were. Free from the woes and drama she encountered daily, free from the control of other people, for the most part.

Verity had been outside for a few hours now. She wasn't tired or exhausted at all, and therefore didn't want to go to the dorms. She stayed out of the Common Room in case Jamie ever showed up there. She hadn't seen him or talked to him since that night at the Three Broomsticks. Verity's cheeks turned red just thinking about it and something tugged at her heart. She wouldn't let herself admit that she had actually missed him. Instead, she kept telling herself that it was just a mistake. A lapse in her judgement. It had been a long day, after all, and she probably wasn't thinking clearly. She definitely wasn't thinking clearly.
Verity walked towards the Forest because she didn't want any teachers finding her outside and making her go to her Dorms...with a detention. She figured most teachers were probably too scared to go into the Forest, which was the reason so many kids weren't. Her eyes adjusted to the darkness easily, and she had no use for her wand. She tripped on a couple of roots, but was able to catch herself before she fell. She stopped abruptly and hid behind a tree when she saw a lighted wand ahead. Was it a teacher? Fear swept over her. The last thing she needed was a detention.

Vannah leaned against a tree and tilted her head upward. Finally, a breath of fresh air. She thought Hogwarts would be a breath of fresh air when she first decided to come back, but so far it hadn't been. It had been hectic and confusing and frustrating so far. The Forest was relaxing, quiet and abandoned at this time of night. It was just what she was looking for.
Vannah was pulled out of the bliss that had swept over her by the sound of leaves rustling. Her head shot to the side, but she couldn't make out any figures in the darkness over there. It was probably just one of the creatures that inhabited the forest, but just in case Vannah put the light on her wand out. She still held her wand close, ready to defend herself. She stepped on top of a giant root and leaned up against the tree completely, silently. If it was just an animal or something, it would just go away.

The area around Verity got darker. She peered around the tree and noticed the light had gone out and everything was pitch black. Her eyes widened and her mouth formed an 'O'. What was she supposed to do now? What if whoever it was who was in the forest was a rapist? She had heard that there was, in fact, a former student from Hogwarts who had raped at least one girl. What if it was a murderer? Verity didn't know how to defend herself. She had her wand, but her wandwork wasn't that impressive. Before Verity could psych herself out anymore, her nose started to itch. All of the sudden she sneezed loudly.

Vannah's head shot in the direction of the sneeze and her eyes narrowed. It definitely was someone else and not something else. And from the sound of it, they were only a few feet away. She tapped her wand on again, figuring that it was too late in the night for any of the teachers to be out there. Then again, she thought it was too late in the night for anyone else to be out there at all. Vannah stayed where she was. "Who's there?" She called out, but immediately regretted it. Fear gripped her, what if it was Emilian? What if he tried to rape her again, or worse? No, Vannah had to stop thinking like that before she made herself go mad. There was no way Emilian could get back on the grounds, and if he did she was ready. She could defend herself this time.

Verity cursed silently. She stepped out from behind the tree, wand in hand. Maybe it was a dumb move. Maybe she should have just kept quiet and stayed there...but she didn't. "It's me, Verity." She said innocently. She felt it necessary to add I come in peace to the end of that statement, but resisted. She tapped the light on her wand on as well and peered at the blonde before her. She could hardly make out her face with all the shadows.
