"Let's have some fun," Dare said, his voice only just audible over the music. His hand tightened against Michael's and he shifted his weight again, only debating the briefest moment before he brought their lips together. He knew he should feel bad about the fight and he wished Michael hadn't gotten hurt. All he wanted now was a kiss.

Michael accepted the kiss and tilted his head to return it. If Dare didn't want to talk about what had happened, then Michael certainly wasn't going to bring it up. This was something small enough that he could leave it alone if that was what Dare wanted. His free hand slipped up Dare's torso to curve around the back of his neck.

As far as Dare was concerned, they could talk about the fight later. He wanted to kiss Michael, to pull as close as they could get without doing indecent things on the dance floor. He wanted his arm wrapped around Michael, wanted to thank him and reassure both of them. Once they had been willing to die for each other, and he still wanted that. He wanted the intensity, and the aftermath of even that small fight was enough for him.

It was easy to lose himself to the kiss and forget about the fight when it felt so good to have Dare's arm around him. Michael wished that they could stay like this forever and never have to worry about something happening to them. It was so great when they were able to be happy, and though he had been happy the past weeks, it felt oddly routine.

The routine had needed breaking, not that Dare had thought of it that way. He'd just wanted to go out, to do something and forget the rules. He wanted to live, something he'd thought more and more about lately. He was going to be done with school forever in a matter of months, and his status as adult would become dramatically less technical.
He didn't hear the thoughts as he kissed Michael, but they were there and they kept him from getting carried away. He was breathless when the kiss ended, but it ended. It left him grinning, and he started moving to the music again without preamble, pulling Michael with him. They wouldn't be young forever.

Michael matched Dare's grin and let his arms loop loosely across Dare's shoulders. He wasn't thinking about the fact that they wouldn't be like this forever, he didn't want to think about that. He didn't want to imagine a time they would be unable to do everything they wanted. His body easily matched Dare's motions as his eyes found Dare's.

It was easy to move on and forget what had happened after that. There was nothing but the two of them lost in a crowd with no thoughts about school or work or the future. Dare felt free, and as he led Michael toward the bar later to get something to drink, he wanted to use every bit of freedom he could get.

Michael followed closely behind Dare, pulling up behind him and resting his hands loosely on Dare's hips. His thumbs found their way into belt loops and he let his eyes move over Dare. "It's been way too long since we did this," he said, probably not for the first time, and probably not for the last time, either. It didn't require an answer, but he had to say it.

Dare nodded his agreement, and at the bar let himself lean slightly back into Michael. He loved it when this happened, even the slight shifting of roles enough to rouse his interest. He smirked at the thought. "What do you want, water?" Dare asked. It was what they always got, but his eyes had caught on the rows of bottles displayed across from them. What if... Technically they were both old enough, right? The drinking age in England wasn't twenty-one.

When Michael ended up behind Dare, he never considered it any kind of reversal or change in roles, at least not unless they were dancing. He nodded, since that was what he had assumed they would be doing. But he couldn't miss Dare's eyes. He followed Dare's gaze, then looked back curiously. "Unless you're thinking something different?"

Dare stared a moment longer before looking aside at what he could see of Michael. "I'm thinking about it," he said. He pressed a light kiss to Michael's cheek, then his lips curved into a crooked smile. "Remember the bachelor party?" he asked. They'd had way too much then, obviously, but they'd also had a lot of fun and contrary to his belief that they wouldn't be safe without him, they had been. It had been fun and they'd made it home safely.

"How could I forget?" Michael asked. He remembered the vast majority of it with great clarity, he remembered how he hadn't even cared that the others could see him kissing Dare's neck, or that they would see his skin for that one particular show the Aurors had put on. "If you want to," he said, "Then I see no reason not to." It wasn't like they would make a habit of it.

"You sure?" Dare asked. It felt like a huge step, when just over a year ago he'd been so adamantly against alcohol. What had changed? He'd had to drink wine with Michael and his mother, but he'd hated it, and there had been that last confrontation with Markise's drinking almost a year ago. "Hey, you know we've been together almost two years?" he asked, smiling back at Michael. Deciding what to drink could wait another minute or two.

"End of June, two years," Michael said, nodding. "We'll have been married for one." He pressed a soft kiss to Dare's neck at the thought. It was strange to think of, but at times it felt like it had been so much longer. So much had happened since they had met. It was most definitely his longest relationship.

Dare smiled, letting the feel of that kiss warm him. "Can we go on vacation again?" he asked. Michael had suggested it last year, but he didn't know if they'd be able to. Michael's mother certainly wouldn't be giving them something like that every year, and though he didn't need the extravagance again, he couldn't imagine how much it might cost.
