With the end of questions, Kane thought back to the many questions he had. He could hold them back another moment, but they were pressing for attention. "Do you have a support system here at school? Back home? People you can talk to or go to if you have trouble? Friends or trusted teachers?"

Right, Quinn thought, she had so many friends, they were just bursting at the seems to help her with Lyric. She shook her head, "I don't want to talk about my home. I just can't get expelled. And sometimes I talk to Markise and a girl named Madison, but she's busy with Quidditch, and I don't think he lives on campus."

A girl named Madison, and she wasn't sure where Markise lived. She had definite issues with her home life, but he didn't know yet how he would get her to talk about it. "You're always welcome here, you can come in any time and talk to me about anything. Class, friends, boredom, it doesn't matter, my door's always open. And if you change your mind, if you decide that you would like to talk about your home life, I can promise you that everything is confidential. I won't judge you, Quinn. It doesn't matter who disagrees with you or what you say, I'm here to listen to you."

Quinn shook her head, "I met a girl who told me I should edit things." She tried to smile, "but I scared her off too...you seem nice. I wouldn't want to scare you off as well." She went back to braiding a small section of her hair, wondering if she could go, or if she should stay, should she be talking?

Kane gave a gentle smile. "You can't scare me off," he promised. "This is what I do, I like to help people, or just listen. Cross my heart, you won't scare me off." He made the motions for her, knowing the chances that whatever she was hiding would be beyond his scope. He'd find a way though. He'd found a way with Michael, and Michael had started trying to leave the moment he'd knocked on the door. Quinn had already told him so much, and though he suspected that whatever else there was had to be worse, he was willing to try.

"What do you want to hear?" There were lots of things she wouldn't mind talking about, things that made her happy. She couldn't be sad right now, not when she needed to be happy for Lyric, strong for Lyric, because when he'd been on the tower he'd needed her not to have issues to be fine, and she'd started distancing herself more from the past from things that hurt.

"Tell me about growing up," Kane prompted. It was usually better to start at the beginning, and perhaps then he could get an idea of where to go next.

That seemed like a loaded question Quinn decided, "I had a sister. Her name was Kiley." Quinn smiled as she thought about Kiley, "she was the opposite of me. Bright, cheerful, optimistic, determined, full of ideas." She shrugged, "I followed along, it was really easy being with her. I wouldn't have thought of the things she did, she made our childhood worth something."

"Things were hard for you?" Kane asked. "It sounds like she was a good support system." He hoped the prompts would be enough for her to talk, but mentally gathered questions in case it wasn't.

"She was, Kiley was my best friend, my twin. She used to say that we looked exactly the same, but I told her that she looked much prettier than I did." Quinn's eyes lit on thinking about her sister, the teasing conversations they would have in hushed tones, before the floorboards would squeak above them. "Nothing was as hard when Kiley was there."

"If it's not too hard to talk about, what happened to Kiley?" Kane asked.

The bare facts weren't too hard, "she died," Quinn said stiffly, her demeanor and her eyes freezing for a moment. After that night that Lyric and she had first been together like that she had spent a night woefully wishing to change events. It didn't do to think about them, she just had to avoid going back. "Right before I was enrolled here. Maybe a couple of weeks before June of last year."

"Please, tell me what happened," Kane said softly, gently encouraging her. "Telling someone can be a huge relief. I'll be quiet while you speak."

"I told Lyric once, and he ran away. He's the only one that knows, and he won't tell me about him, other than something happened." She was feeling fidgety, she didn't want to talk about this, it reminded her of what was happening, those moments that she hid when she actually had to deal with things. "I like to carve," she said, hoping to shift the conversation again, away from what they were talking about.

"Does carving help you cope with things?" Kane asked. The statement had been far too close on the heels of the other for them not to be directly related. "Was it something you did with your sister?"
