"No, that's why I needed to see someone. There was this boy the other day, Markise's boyfriend he said, although I never had met him before. He said that Lyric was dying, killing himself with drugs. I didn't think, there was anything wrong, we'd only done that a couple of times...so he could touch me. There were different ones, but I was never sick, so I thought." She shook her head, "Lyric is acting funny, and he doesn't look so good. The other boy said....dying" Lyric was the only person with an aside to occasionally Madison and Markise that she talked to, and he knew more about her.

It was difficult following someone who spoke as though he already knew half the story, but Kane tried all the same. It was enough work just keeping track of all the people involved. "So are your friends involved in this as well?" he asked. "How do Markise and his boyfriend fit into things?"

"What?" Markise didn't fit into things at all, "I talk to Markise about things. I don't know, the other boy said he saw Lyric some where. He said that he was really bad, that he was killing himself. And after he tried up on the tower, well...I thought I talked him out of it, but now, if they really are that bad, I think he's just picked a new tower to jump off of." One that she couldn't stop him from jumping off of, because he left the school to do it, and she couldn't leave the school.

Kane was silent a moment before trying again. "Could you tell me more?" he asked. "One thing at a time? You mentioned a tower, can you tell me about that?" There were so many stories here, and he had to make more notes just to keep track of what they might need to go back to.

That one was hard, Quinn thought, Lyric wouldn't want her to tell, but she couldn't not not when he was so close to sick. He'd pulled away from her that last night, she could tell, but she didn't know why. "Yeah, I had been looking for him for a few days, because I got tickets to a concert that I wanted to give him. I heard he had been hanging out in the astronomy tower, that he'd been standing on the edge, just rumors, nothing more." She shook her head, and moved her hands to rub against her arms.
"When I went there, he was standing on the edge with his camera strapped to his neck, ready to jump." The visuals were horrific from that night, she hated them. "I managed to talk him off the the edge, with things...just shared with him. I think he was sober for the first time since the first time I had met him. When he came down, I couldn't help hugging him, and then he took a needle and stuck it into his arm. I stayed with him for a few hours, I didn't want him to jump again if I left."
Quinn turned her face to face the counselor, "I was so scared. He's the only person here who really knows me. I couldn't lose him, but it's selfish of me, I want to help him for him. He can't carry my needs, he has to many of his own. I think," she whispered, "that he's more broken than I am."

This was going to take far more than one session. It sounded like Quinn needed help beyond the issue that had brought her here, but as much as he wanted to help, they needed to deal with the more immediate issues at hand. Kane's face was lined with concern as he looked at the girl who spoke so calmly about such things. "If you think he's still in danger, that he might try to kill himself, I would be required to notify the Headmistress. We would get help for him. Saving someone's life is the most important thing, and if he's attempted suicide once, he's more likely to try it again. I can't determine on my own whether things are that serious. Drug use alone isn't necessarily a suicide attempt. Do you think he might make another attempt?"

Would Lyric try again? Quinn wanted to say no, but she knew that would only be deluding herself into keeping everything in the nice tidy rooms where they belonged. She was struggling with herself, trying to keep everything sectioned the way it was supposed to stay. For Lyric though, she let a bit out, the honesty that she expected from others, she expected from herself too. "He'll try again, in a heartbeat if he knows no one is looking. I only stopped him the first time because I was already looking for him, and knew where to look. It still took me to long to get him off the ledge.""

Kane nodded and pushed aside the parchment he'd written on to expose a fresh sheet. "If you don't mind, I'd like to send a note to Headmistress Dumbledore now, to let her know. I can do it without mentioning you by name, but what we need to do is get your friend—Lyric, you said?—help as quickly as possible. Would you like me to leave out your name, or would you like to speak to the Headmistress yourself at some point?"

Did it matter, Lyric would probably throw her name around anyways. "I don't mind either way, whatever gets Lyric help sooner. I don't care what happens as long as I don't get kicked out of school." This school was her safe place, the place of freedom she might be ripped away from any day, as he step-father's legal heir. She shuddered at the thought of going back to school.

Kane looked up from the note he'd begun. "You won't get expelled for helping another student," he said. "You're being a great help. I'll go ahead and mention your name, but ask that Headmistress Dumbledore keep it to herself. There's no reason for Lyric to know where we got our information from." He turned back to his note, finishing it quickly, and with a tap of his wand, it folded itself and flew off at top speed.
"I'll admit that I don't know much about Muggle drugs, but I can tell you that they're dangerous. They're easy to get addicted to and they'll wear down your health or even kill you. Your friend is in more trouble than whether or not he'll get expelled. For now, we've done what we can. Headmistress Hells will make a decision immediately. I'm not entirely sure what will happen to Lyric, but he'll most likely be hospitalized. Do you have any questions?" There was still so much to talk about, so many things he needed to ask her about, but for now, he wanted her to know that her friend would be taken care of.

At least Lyric wouldn't know it was her that had turned him in, but he was so shaky. "What does hospitalization mean?" Would he be safe, would he be angry, would he find out there. "And if its so addictive...why haven't I...Lyric has given me some, and I don't think I'm addicted." Addiction meant that you needed it, and she didn't, didn't even want to do it with Lyric sometimes.

Kane thought for a moment before speaking, his fingers steepling "With as little as I know about Muggle drugs, please be patient with me." He flattened his hands as he chose his words. "There are as many kinds of drugs as there are potions, and they all do different things. Perhaps some are more addictive than others," he suggested, "and perhaps some are physically addictive while others are psychologically addictive—that is, the feeling of needing them is to hide emotional problems or a misguided attempt to have fun that increases with use.
"Hospitalization would mean a safe place to help Lyric while the drugs leave his system. It will be difficult for him, emotionally and physically, but he'll have someone to watch over him and take care of him in the meantime."

"Will I be able to visit him," she turned her eyes down for a moment, "I mean, if he wants me to visit him. I don't want to be there if he doesn't want me, or if it would hurt him worse." She hadn't known she was encouraging something harmful when she was with him, when she took the drugs to let him touch her, that it was actually hurting worse than not touching him at all would have.

"That's a question I can't answer," Kane said apologetically. "I'm not familiar with the procedures involved, but in most hospital stays there are visiting hours. You might be supervised, especially if it's high-risk, which it sounds like it is. We'll have to wait and see about that."

"Oh, okay." What else was there to say, she wanted Lyric to be helped, she wanted him to be more than the closed shell he was becoming, and she had only come in after he'd started the process of closing himself off. She wasn't sure where it had started, but she'd seen enough of him to want more out of him, even if she couldn't push because he wasn't willing to give that, and he would walk away without a backwards glance.
