Ryan walked into the Room of Requirement and smiled at the scene. It was his living room back home. He walked in and sat on the couch and turned on the big screen TV. He looked around at all the detail, and loved it. The TV came on and he saw his favorite movie on the screen, Ocean's 11. Ryan sat there and watched the movie and started quoting the lines out loud along with the movie.

Vannah needed a place to escape. She had been back for a few days and already she was doubting her decision to return. She hadn't any difficult encounters since the one on the night she arrived. She hadn't seen Ryan since then. Then again, she had been avoiding him. She made sure to take certain corridors to her classes, ones she knew she would find him in. There was only so much fight in her. Actually, these days it seemed like there was a whole lot of fight in her. Every answer she gave to a question was defensive. She was looking for a good fight, it seemed.
She found herself in front of a door she hadn't recognized. Curiously, she peered in. It looked like someone's living quarters. How odd...she glanced around before noticing something familiar. She could only see the back of the person's head, but it was completely recognizable. Oh no. She turned to leave.

Ryan heard the door but did not turn to look "Might as well come in now Vannah, I know you are there."

Vannah didn't move. She did, however, turn around to face him. "I didn't mean to intrude. I had no idea who was in here." Her voice was polite enough, but it held and edge to it. She was angry enough at something, though she had yet to figure out what that was. It was the weekend, so most students were out at Hogsmeade or in their Common Room...at least that's what she thought.
She couldn't imagine what more he had to say to her. He made it pretty clear that he wanted nothing to do with her...unless he had all of her. She thought she made it clear enough that she was through with their relationship. "I'll be going now." She said stepping towards the door. She would accept his friendship if that was what he wanted, but she would not waste her time moping around about a relationship that ended a long time ago.

Ryan kept watching the movie and flicked his was and the door shut. "As I said, might as well come in. Come watch the movie with me." He was wondering what he wanted to do.

Vannah reached for the door, but it had already shut. They must have been in the Room of Requirement. It had been ages since she used the Room. It's purpose was to give you what you desired most. Was this what he desired? To trap her in a room with him? Anger poured through Vannah at the thought of it. She didn't appreciate being in a position where she was stuck, with no way out.
Since there wasn't anything else she could do, Vannah sat on the same couch Ryan was sitting on. Only Vannah sat as far away as possible from him on the other side of the couch. She pushed herself into the corner where the arm and the back of the couch meet and hugged her knees into her chest. She didn't bother looking at the, what did he call it? Oh right, movie Muggle inventions didn't impress her at all. Instead, she glared at him. What was he playing at this time?

Ryan looked at her "I am not going to force you into anything. I wanted to say I am sorry for the way I acted. It was out of line. I was just really emotional at the time, which you have to admit, I had every right to be mad."

Vannah was speechless. It wasn't that there wasn't anything she could find to say. Hell, there were plenty of things running through her mind that she could have said. It took a great deal of control to keep herself from blurting it all out. Her shoulders relaxed as she breathed out. Her breath was shaky. She kept her mouth closed. What was that saying? If you have nothing nice to say, say nothing. That's exactly what she did. Instead of speaking, she lowered her head and tucked her forehead to her knees. She was tucked completely into a ball now, shutting off the distractions around her.

Ryan sighed "I just want you to know that if it was anything that i did to make you leave, then I am very sorry. I still do love you, and I will always want to be with you, but if that isn't possible I would really still like to be your friend. That is all up to you though. Now if you want to say anything to me you can. I know you have a lot in your head you want to say. Otherwise you can stay here with me or you can leave. I just wanted to be able to apologize to you." he said softly as the door opened again.

Vannah didn't react immediately. It took a couple of minutes before she spoke. Her words were muffled at first and completely inaudible. She lifted her head. Her face showed dark patches under her eyes and her exhaustion was recognized in her voice. "You did nothing wrong." She said in a low voice. "You need to remember that: I did not leave because of you. I left because of me." She heaved a sigh. It was tough carrying the weight of the world on your shoulders...at least that's what it felt like to Vannah. "I told you I needed to work some things out on my own. I did it because I needed to." The nagging voice inside of her head reminded her that the fact that she had been ordered to leave played a large role in her departure.
Vannah wasn't sure about the being friends part anymore. She didn't have a problem with it herself, but hadn't he told her earlier that he couldn't just be friends with her? What had changed his mind in such a short time period? Could she even trust him still? Could he trust her? These questions floated around her thoughts.

Ryan listened and nodded "Thank you for telling me that. Now I know I said I didn't want to just be friends with you, but I was mad, and just saying things. I want to be friends with you if you want to. That is your decision."

Vannah had no idea what she wanted....actually she knew exactly what she wanted. She wanted everything she didn't have. Wasn't that the way it always was? She would always want something else, something more. She thought she wanted to have fun without getting attached. When she had that, she thought she wanted something more...permanent. When she got that, she wanted something different. She thought she wanted to be friends, but the more she thought about it, the less complicated it got.
"Ryan." It came out in a frustrated sigh. She tilted her head sideways. She wanted to make sure he weighed all of pros and cons of being just friends. "You need to think about it some more. Think about what you are asking. Is it really what you want?" Maybe once he really thought about it, it would make making her decision a lot easier.

Ryan looked at her "Vannah, after everything we have been through, you have still been my closest friend here. I don't want to lose that." he said softly "Will I always want more? Of course I will, because I will still love you, but I don't want to lose you as a friend. I am sure of that."

Vannah was silent for a few moments. It felt like an eternity. "No." She finally said. "I don't think it's a good idea." It was dangerous, risky, and foolish to become friends. Friends are what you are when you see each other in the hall and exchange mindless chatter about the weather. Friends are who you stay up all night with when that bastard dumped you on your butt. Friends are what you are ebefore you fall in love. No, they could not be friends. Besides, she didn't think he could handle being her friend.

Ryan looked at her "Fair enough." he said, somewhat heart broken, and he turned back to the movie and watched. He didn't know what else to say. He did not want to lose her as a friend, but he did not want to force her into anything.
