As much as Silver liked Hogwarts sometimes, it was the forest that was his second home, not the boys' dorm. By now, he was used to sharing space, to ignoring the noise, but he far preferred the open quiet of the deeper forest. He was fully aware that it was Forbidden, and ninety-nine percent of the rules he followed to the letter, but the forest called to him, now more than usual.
He was worn from the past few days, as he always was after his absences, and it showed in the dark circles under his eyes and the slowness of his loping walk. He was tired, and he just wanted to sit and try to catch up on the work he'd missed.
At last he found the spot he wanted, a small clearing where an ancient tree rose up, its gnarled and twisted roots breaking and twisting from the ground in places, and forming a perfect indentation to sit in.
Silver dropped his backpack heavily and sat, his ears on high alert for the birds that nested nearby, and the creatures that approached and departed when they sensed his presence. He just sat for a few minutes, soaking it all in, before he retrieved his book, parchment, and self-inking quill. Then he set himself to the endless task of keeping O's in his classes.

It seemed very unlikely that Quinn would be making any more friends than Madison, Quinn thought to herself, as she wandered through the forbidden forest, a bowtruckle combing knobby fingers through her hair. The people that she thought perhaps she'd befriended all disappeared, probably because she was as frightening as she thought she was. She half smiled to herself as she hummed softly to the bowtruckle, well there was Markise, but she hadn't seen him in a few weeks.
It seemed like one of the only places she felt safe and welcomed was the one thing that was forbidden to all students. Occasionally she still saw new students wander in, but rarely did they wander across her path again. Perhaps she mused out loud to the bowtruckle, the forbidden forest was just like the room of requirement, and it expanded to keep it's occupants comfortable and relatively alone.

Silver heard a voice long before anything could be seen, and he lifted his head, tired eyes aware as they scanned the familiar line of trees. He didn't want company, it was part of the reason he liked the forest so much, and for a moment, he considered packing everything away and leaving, even if he was in the middle of an essay. He'd do better if he wasn't distracted, and with the sound growing closer, there was nothing but the distraction in his mind. He hesitated though, unwilling to leave his ideal place for now, and simply hoped that whoever it was would pass him by.

Quinn continued wondering internally to herself about the forest and the things that she could find in here. The welcoming balm of the sunlight streaming through the canopy of leaves above her head. It had always been the forest that she had longed for when she had been stuck in the house with Kiley. A sudden still fell over the forest as Quinn entered a small clearing, intrigued by the lack of noise her head turned to look for what could be the source of the stillness that was generally absent from the hustle and bustle of forest life.
She stilled, the presence of the Bowtruckle on her shoulder forgotten, her intrigue forgotten for the moment as her eyes lit on a boy that was vaguely familiar. A faint blush stained her pale cheeks as she looked at the boy, finding it awkward to invade what was obviously a sanctuary for him. It seemed the same as the day that dark haired girl had intruded on her solitude in the forest. Her hand reached up the left side of her head, the opposite side of the Bowtruckle. "Uhm," she stuttered for a moment, not sure what to say, or if she should just remain still and hope that he didn't notice her.

Damn, Silver thought. He was well and truly interrupted now, and by the uncomfortable way the girl was staring at him, he had a feeling she wasn't going to turn and walk away. Another time and place and he would have ducked his head, letting his hair swing into his face as a shield, but now, and here in his nest of roots, a throne of sorts that he knew rarely if ever saw humans aside from him, he only stared back.
He recognized her, though he couldn't summon up her name. She was in Muggle Studies, Defense, Charms, History, Potions, almost all of his classes. It would have been impossible to forget her entirely. He hadn't seen Dare since their first class in the beginning of September, hadn't even heard anything about a concert. After a moment, he turned his attention purposefully back to his school work.

Well Quinn thought dryly, that went well. Tucking a few more strands of hair behind her cheek, she tried to down out the chattering of the Bowtruckle in her ear, who appeared to be upset over the sudden stop of the ride. "I'm sorry if I...didn't think anyone else really came out here." Closing her eyes she tried to summon courage and the wisdom of the few friend's she'd made since arriving here. "I'm Quinn...but I bet you already know that...you look familiar, I have some classes with you right?" Truth be told she hadn't been focusing very well in her classes lately. It just seemed as though there wasn't much point in focusing on whatever the professor was saying, even the faculty seemed absent minded of late.

Silver managed not to sigh heavily, but he was definitely annoyed. If Quinn was sorry for interrupting, then why was she still doing so? "Yeah. We have class together," he said. "I'm just trying to do my homework." And find some peace and solace after being cooped up and unable to do anything for the past few days. He paid no real attention to the sound of the bowtruckle, and hadn't even noticed it sitting on the girl. His senses were working, but his sense of observation was the same as it ever was.

Quinn dug a toe into the dirt, "homework for one of the classes we have together?" She didn't know why she was talking to the boy, he obviously seemed distracted, but here he was in her forest, the one place she'd found true solace. "I manage alright in most of the classes, but I can't...some of them I just...well I just don't understand." Like DADA, she was failing miserably in that course, but she'd never been allowed to defend or protect herself, and it seemed almost wrong to try now, as though...Quinn shook her hair, wincing as the Bowtruckle dug deeper into her hair in response.

Silver nearly cringed. Part of him always wanted to explain things, to help someone figure something out, but he really wasn't that good at it, and to be honest, he preferred his own company to the company of others. He wasn't good with people, and he was only really ever comfortable with a quill in his hand. He resisted that momentary insanity and shook his head instead. "It's for Arithmancy," he said. Why wasn't she moving on? Didn't people come to the forest to hide? To get away from everyone else?

Quinn shook her head, "I didn't take that, I didn't know how well I would do." Her feet of their own volition headed towards the tree drawn by the need to talk to someone anyone...even though she was beginning to doubt how long she could keep the stream of thoughts running through her head from spilling out of her mouth. "Course, I'm not doing well in my history based classes. Potions, Herbology are easy...I mean, not that other things aren't, and I'm sure that Arithmancy is interesting, and...." she shut her mouth, the blush staining even further up her face.

Why was she getting closer? She hadn't figured out yet that he didn't want to talk? She hadn't gotten the idea that if he was doing his homework alone in the forest he might prefer to continue? His jaw tensed, and after a brief moment he rolled up his essay and began to pack his things. He thought for a moment about whether she was in his House, but she wasn't, so he said the first thing that came to his mind. "I'm going to study in the Common Room." Then at least if there was noise it wouldn't be directed at him.

Quinn's lips twisted, and she stopped in her tracks, as though she was approaching a wild animal that might be easily spooked. "I didn't mean to interrupt you, it's just...I haven't met alot of people here that talk to me. And my friend Markise, well he's away for a while. I thought...I hoped..." she was putting her foot in her mouth again, but she wanted desperately to talk to someone...and he seemed familiar. "I haven't had anyone to talk to since my sister died." The words had slipped out before she could stop them and she groaned inside at the slip. She'd only really told Lyric about her sister...and kind of Markise, but Markise was different.

Silver could have growled at that. Why did the fates hate him so much? And why didn't it surprise him that she was friends with Markise? Because he was always friends with everyone, he answered himself. He'd paused a moment, but now he stuffed the last of his things back into his book bag and closed the flap. "You should talk to Kane, not me," he said. "Second floor, across the corridor and three doors down from the painting of the three witches with the overflowing cauldron." If she was having issues, especially about deceased family members, she should be talking to a counselor.

Kane she'd heard the name, knew he was the school counselor, but also an adult. She'd spent a long time not dealing with adults because she didn't think she could trust them, and not with secrets like she harbored. "I don't want to talk to a counselor...I just...want to make friends. I figured....we had some classes together...you obviously like the forest, maybe as much as I do." Quinn felt herself breaking somewhat to admit exactly how much she needed to have some friends. "Please...don't go."

"I need to finish my work," Silver said, firmly ignoring the constriction in his chest that felt suspiciously like guilt. But he didn't want to talk to her, didn't want to listen to her problems, and neither being in classes together nor liking the forest was enough to make him want to torment himself by doing so. If he wished she hadn't sat with him and Dare that day in class, it wasn't so he could talk to her without thinking about it, it was so he could have some contact with his brother.
