Why was everyone looking at him like he knew what he was doing? Markise's brows drew together slightly in confusion. "Are there meetings I don't know about?" he asked. What kind of time would it really take checking on Jory at school to make sure no one was targeting him?

"He looks to me like the type that would want to meet like this," Ariel offered. Which only made sense, he thought, though it wouldn't work for him personally. He would do much better alone, but he got the distinct feeling that Jory couldn't do that. "So yes, it would take some time." He figured it just meant that Jory had better not care if they showed off a little bit.

Jory's eyes shifted to Ariel and he nodded. "It'd be nice to have someone to talk to or hang out with or whatever," he said. "Like me and Lyric spent the day in London today, that was the first time I'd ever been somewhere like that, it was fun. It's not like I want you to do that or whatever, but like I said, it'd be nice...." Then he shook his head and looked back out over the water.

When Jory looked away, Markise wrinkled his nose. He liked the idea of meetings better. Meeting at lunch to make sure everything was going okay was fine, but hanging out? It was one thing hanging out in a group, but adding one person to him and Ariel would be... adding a person to him and Ariel. And Jory was so quiet. It would be more like having a possible voyeur than hanging out with a friend. Markise had always thought Silver was a little voyeuristic, too.

Ariel's eyes moved from Markise back to Jory. He didn't want to turn the kid away, but he didn't know what to say, either. He could feel that Markise didn't want to do more than strictly necessary for him, though. "Sometimes you need to be able to get away," he said, his gaze moving back to Markise.

Jory shrugged and looked down at his fingers playing with the end of his shoelace. "I'll be okay, I'll figure something out." He moved to stand, "I'll leave you guys alone." There was no point staying any longer when it felt like he had overstayed and that there wasn't going to be any further help or conversation to be had.

Markise's brows drew together again as he turned to look back at Jory. "Wait... I mean, you can have all of us help you out, can't you? It'll be better than if it's just me and Ariel." Even if the thought came from a selfish desire to have Ariel to himself, Markise genuinely thought it would be better if Jory didn't count on them alone. He didn't want to refuse help when he could help, though. Even if he had no clue how to help. His last coming-out had been an epic failure.

In the few moments he had thought they were going to be alone, Ariel had fully forgotten about the conversation and set his mind to Markise. When he realized there would be no alone time, it was barely enough to keep him from shifting slightly closer to Markise. It was hard to feel him through the long sleeves and ragged jacket he wore, but it was better than if he had worn the heavy coat Markise had made him. Besides, it just gave him more reason to pull closer.

"Well, yeah," Jory said, raising an eyebrow. "It's not like I was going to, like, latch myself onto your or something." He shook his head and shrugged. "I mean, I still have Lyric and Layne, and maybe Dare if I go talk to him a couple more times. I just figure it'd be best to have as many people as possible, right? That whole thing about strength in numbers?"

Markise's attention was being pulled away by Ariel's nearness, and he suddenly felt like telling Jory to just go. But he managed to nod, despite the energy he felt beside him. "You can stop by the robe shop in Hogsmeade if you need me... us," he corrected himself. He told himself to give up the conversation for lost and just let Jory go. He'd been confused for a while now anyway.

Ariel couldn't help but continue, pulling one knee up to shift and bring his far hand over to Markise's. If Jory wanted to be around them, or even Dare and Michael, he needed to get used to that kind of thing, anyway. Besides, he had already had to brush off the questions of the guys in his house as to why he had moved out and he was very much looking forward to forgetting, if only for a few minutes.

Jory nodded, but still stood. "I might come by sometime," he said. He hoped to see Lyric, anyway. It hadn't been long, but maybe it had been long enough for Lyric to do whatever it was he had wanted to do. "I'll, um...let you guys be alone, I'll see you later." He could always find some other time to talk to Markise.

Markise nodded again, silently cursing Ariel for not being able to wait a couple more minutes, and cursing Jory for not leaving faster. At last, he turned back to Ariel, blackened lashes low over his eyes. "Keep this up and I'm gonna start thinking you missed me or something," he teased. His lightly glossed lips curved. He was suitably convinced that he didn't need to feel threatened by Jory, and the boy, as sweet as he might have been, was mentally dismissed.

"Or something?" Ariel asked as Jory left, a smile playing on his lips and in his eyes. "Because there's no way I could miss you?" It was so much easier to smile now. Yes, they had just had a very hard time and the urge to go back still pulled at him, and yes things were getting ready to get a lot harder for them, but it was so easy to smile with Markise.

"You can't miss me, 'cause I never leave you alone," Markise said, his gaze dropping to Ariel's smile. He never got tired of seeing it, and he was still sure that he could just stare at it for hours and be content. He leaned closer to press a brief, teasing kiss to Ariel's lips, hardly pulling back to speak again. "I like not having to wait." Not that they'd never done anything here before, but it was entirely different knowing that it didn't really matter if they were caught. He was still half listening for someone to come along, but he was only half listening.
