"Just learn to fight back," Markise said. It was what he'd been saying all along. "If they already know and you're hiding, then it's something to be ashamed of, and it'll just get worse. Last time it was hell. I tried to keep out of the way. This time," he said, gesturing to his hair, "I'm not letting it happen. Hide and you'll start to hate yourself."

"I'm not a fighter," Jory said with a light laugh and a shake of his head. "I don't even know how I ended up in Gryffindor. Like I said, I got used to hiding after I found out that I'm not like, supposed to like guys or whatever." That had been a blow, to show up third year and hear all of the other guys talking about girls. He had never considered it wasn't a normal thing until that point. "I haven't started hating myself yet."

Ariel had been held behind in his last class for an essay he had written and so hadn't been able to leave to find Markise as soon as he normally would have. He was nervous about today, since it was the first time Markise had gone to the school dressed out, but more than that he was looking forward to spending a little time with Markise before the end of the day. That was one of the good things about this whole coming out business.
What he hadn't expected was to find Markise sitting with a guy. A streak of hot jealousy shot through him. He didn't recognize the guy, and they obviously weren't fighting. He couldn't help that his mind went off in a direction that was probably wrong, now that he thought of it. He didn't try to stay quiet as he walked through the line of trees.

"Do I look like a fighter?" Markise asked Jory, just moments before he heard Ariel. His eyes lit up at the promise of something interesting happening now, and at the eventual sight of him, Jory was forgotten. He didn't make himself force down his reaction, and so his smile was instantaneous and genuine.
"Hey," he called, gesturing for Ariel to sit at his other side. "This is Jory." He glanced aside at Jory, still unsure whether Ariel was giving up the Logan thing entirely. "Jory, this is... mine," he settled on. Would Ariel be upset at the introduction? Why was he so damned flustered?

Ariel looked down at Markise, and then back over at the kid, Jory. Their ages couldn't be that much different, but Ariel got a distinct kid feeling from him. "It's Ariel," he said after a moment, then sat close by Markise. He didn't hide the trail his eyes took over Jory, but he braced himself back on his hands, one of which tucked around behind Markise, and extending his legs out in front of him.

Jory's eyes flowed over the guy, wishing he could see him better through the thick clothes. Ariel must not have grown up here, or he wouldn't be dressed like that already. "It's nice to meet you," he said, forcing himself to be polite, since there was a sense of danger around the guy. However good Ariel looked, he looked like he could hurt someone if he really wanted to.

Markise didn't like the way Ariel had looked at Jory, or the way Jory had looked at Ariel, for that matter. He shifted possessively closer to Ariel, and though it took effort to do so in front of someone he hardly knew, reached out to settle his hand against Ariel's thigh. Mine, he thought. There was no forgetting that Ariel had been with him in the first place because there hadn't been anyone else available, and Jory's friend Lyric or Trent or whatever didn't count for anything. His next smile had to work at appearing genuinely polite. "Jory tried to come out," he said. "And now he wants back in."

Ariel shifted his arm to rest against Markise's back at the hand, and couldn't help but let out a snorting laugh. "Good luck with that," he said. "You only have to convince everyone you told you were joking and make them believe you would willingly put up with all of that crap just to play a lame joke on them." His eyes moved from Jory over to Markise again, unable to keep his eyes away from the curled, colored hair.

Jory had dropped his eyes at the feeling he got from Markise and forced himself to keep his eyes away from Ariel. And then...Ariel had laughed? "I know, it's stupid," he mumbled, keeping his eyes away from their less than subtle signs of being together. "But I don't have someone to come out with like you do," he pointed out, though it didn't really mean much.

Markise felt marginally better with Ariel's attention focused mostly on him, so he relaxed a bit and let some of his own attention return to Jory. "What about your friend?" he asked. "And Dare?" He glanced back at Ariel, and though Jory wasn't looking anymore, he wondered silently if they could help, too. As long as Ariel's attention remained on him, and not on the boy with the thick, dark hair and the bright eyes.

"If you look around, you'll find that there are many more like us around here than you'd think," Ariel said, thinking of both Eros and Mano. They were adults, yes, and of a higher place in society, but they could easily become places of refuge if someone needed it. He took advantage of Jory looking away and leaned into Markise, tilting his head to give him a brief, possessive kiss just under his jawline. If they were going to do this, they might as well go all out.

Jory glanced up, but his eyes fell immediately afterward, though he couldn't help but peek from the corner of his eyes at the little display. "I mean, I don't have someone to actually come out with. Like...Layne won't get it, and Dare's probably busy with Michael, I don't want to take him away." And he didn't want to ask Lyric to come out with him.

Markise's eyes had closed at even that brief kiss from Ariel, and he blinked them open to drag his gaze over to Jory. "We're coming out now," he pointed out. Did Jory know Dare so well that he wanted Dare to mentor him or something? Markise had thought it was just a conversation and an offer of help. Wouldn't it be better to stick together?

Ariel wasn't quite willing to volunteer their time to help out Jory, probably wouldn't be even if he knew the kid well. So he opted to remain silent for a few minutes and let Markise work that part out. He didn't mind the simple idea of helping, but he knew it would cut down on their time together, and though he never thought that would be such a big deal, he knew he wouldn't survive without as much Markise time as possible.

"But you two look all happy," Jory said, bringing his eyes back up to Markise now that it was safe to look. "I don't want to like, take time or anything away from you two because I can't handle getting picked on by myself." And hadn't Markise said something about how they had to come out in order to make it? If something was that wrong, did they really need someone else there to mess it up?
