As much as Markise objected to having sex with Mano while he was with Ariel, it was still a disappointment that he'd stopped. Markise pouted even as he nodded in answer to the question. "I always go back to him," he said. "He always f~s up, and when he says he's sorry I go back even when I'm pissed." He either couldn't say yes to Ariel, or he couldn't say no. The happy medium had apparently existed only in New York.

Mano shrugged one shoulder and looked over at Markise. "How long are you going to let this happen?" he asked. "What would he have to do for you to stop going back to him?" But considering everything Ariel had done, it didn't seem like there was anything Ariel could do to make Markise leave him for good.

Markise had to think about that, and he wasn't sure. Ariel had gone and shot up, and he intended to go back. Ariel had already f~ed however many men for money, and he was still with him. He shook his head. "I don't know," he admitted. "I...I'm not going to find anyone better." Of all the guys he'd been with, with the exception of Dare, Ariel was the one who'd made him feel the best about himself, and actually stood up for him. They went through hell when they were together, but there was heaven, too.

"You certainly won't find anyone better while you're stuck with him," Mano pointed out. As long as Markise was with Ariel, he couldn't find anyone better. Mano had no doubts that, if he really wanted to, Markise could find someone to be with. "You're young, who says you have to settle for someone like him now?"

"He'll die if I'm not with him!" Markise argued, as ridiculous an argument as it might have been. "If I hadn't taken him to New York, he'd still..." He couldn't finish the sentence. Still be doing drugs. Something he'd done anyway. "Everything was so perfect in New York..." Was he really settling by being with Ariel? "He's the best guy I've ever been with. Except maybe Dare..." Was he making excuses now?

"He did just fine without you before, didn't he?" Mano argued back at Markise. He didn't see a point in staying with someone like that, if he even saw the point of having a significant other. Besides, if Ariel did all of that stuff, then he clearly wasn't the best guy Markise could have been with. "You must have been with some pretty bad guys if he's the best."

Markise hardly heard Mano's second comment, though he nodded his agreement.He'd been used, tossed aside, closed off from, lied to, and cheated on, to begin with. But Markise's mind was stuck on, He did just fine without you before, didn't he? Had he? Ariel had been happy this summer. He'd been happy when they were together in the shop. Hadn't he? But if he was happy, why had he done it?

Mano eyed Markise for a few moments, thinking, before he finally spoke. "Go talk to him, try to figure it out." It seemed like Markise just needed to go talk to Ariel again, because it didn't look like he was going to find an answer like this. He thought that Markise should just drop him and forget about anything long-term for now, but it didn't seem like the right thing to say.

Markise was slow to nod, but after a moment he did. He'd wanted to go back and talk to Ariel anyway. "I will," he said, then turned to look at Mano. "Thank you," he said. Another moment and he leaned to press a soft kiss to Mano's cheek. He always felt so much better after they'd talked, even if he did do most of the talking.

Mano nodded and gave a small smile, "You're welcome, any time." He had nothing against talking to Markise if he needed it. He stood to stretch, then picked up the glasses. "Well, go talk to him, and tell me what happens," he said. It could be an owl, for all he cared, but he wanted to know what happened between the two.
