Michael nodded, but took a long drink from his glass before he answered. "He's been Dare's best friend since something like second year." Not to mention that they had all but dated a couple of years ago. Markise knew Dare just as well, if not better, than Michael did. Actually, he probably did know Dare better, if Michael thought back to when Markise had gotten Dare to sleep when he had been unable to.

Eros was most definitely including Markise in his invitation. Hopefully, the golden boy was free of whatever summer fling had prevented their tour of New York. They might as well renew their acquaintance while they were all gathered. But what would Markise add to the discussion? Speculation? A character reference? Perhaps he knew something of this Lalita. A last name, at the least.
"Did Markise have anything to say about all this when you spoke with him?" Eros asked at last. "Or do you recall?" Eros expected to be disappointed, but there was no reason not to at least ask. Somehow, Michael was talking now. Comparatively speaking.

Michael didn't like thinking about Markise again, but he answered anyway. "He basically told me," he said, his voice quieter now. "That I was an idiot and that if I believed Dare would do this that I don't deserve him." It certainly hadn't helped his thoughts of himself, but that was beside the point. Eros knew how it had ended up, though.

Apparently Markise did fancy the halfblood, and enough to be rather acerbic in his defense. "You're no idiot, Michael," Eros assured his friend. "Distraught and distracted, but not at all without intelligence. Still, what other reason might the boy have had? I find it ridiculous to defend him without excellent reasoning." It was a callous and cruel way to end things, no matter why they had been ended.

Michael shook his head and tried to pick through the vague memories, however recent they were, of what Markise had said. "Markise said something about maybe he's protecting me," he said. But that didn't make sense, either. There was nothing he could think of that Dare would need to protect him from. Surely nothing was as bad as this.

That was an interesting thought, though Eros didn't say as much. Michael didn't need to be reminded exactly how vengeful Purebloods, and especially those with Dark ties, could be. Soren was dead, but there were any number of people who might mistakenly aspire to defend the man's honor. The only way he could see the halfblood's leaving as protecting Michael was if he thought that Michael might move on, or that the radicals would be soothed by that, a ridiculous hope.
"Does that sound feasible to you?" Eros asked. "Would the boy do something so nobly misguided?" Eros wanted to hear no, or at the least, I don't know. He was upset on Michael's behalf, and wanted a reason to destroy the halfblood, though he reminded himself that Michael would likely prefer the boy's return.

Michael almost shook his head again, only to have a quick, intense flashback to when they had been with his father. Yes, yes Dare would do something like that. They both would. So he nodded. "Last year we....yes." He didn't like that idea much better than Dare leaving him for someone, though. He would rather deal with whatever came than live through this.

That gave Eros pause. Yes. A rather definitive yes, at that, once Michael had given the matter thought. "Then I suppose the next question must be who or what might wish you ill, that the boy might step in on your behalf." Idiocy, considering Michael's skill with a wand, but who had ever said the halfblood was intelligent?

Michael wanted to say he couldn't think of anyone, but it wasn't long before an annoying blonde girl that wanted him locked away. His eyes widened slightly and he looked up at Eros. "Ivy Somers," he said, knowing that Eros would recognize the last name. He had to remember the last name, it was a rather well-known name.

One of Eros's brows lifted immediately at that. The ties between Michael and the Somerses, one in particular, was no secret, nor was the fact that the Somerses were Aurors. Or had been, at some point. They had rather fallen out of sight after the death of the one.
"Ivy is the younger, yes?" he verified. She hadn't been nearly old enough to be out then, but it was an educated assumption, and apparently correct. "I wasn't aware that the family had anything to do with Hogwarts. Has she tried anything thus far?" It was a very short leap from the girl being in the area to wondering how much she had to do with Michael's errant halfblood.

Michael wanted to stand up and try to find her now, just to see if that was it, if she had something to do with it. "She....she's crazy, she tried to convince Dare and Markise, and me, that I belong in Azkaban," he said. He wanted to go find her. He hadn't expected her to do anything drastic, but maybe she had something to do with it. His legs dropped from the edge of the couch.

Eros might have continued his questioning, but Michael had apparently moved on. "Wait," he said, lifting a hand to gesture for his guest to remain sitting. "Let's not go without a plan. I'll bring your Markise over, and Mano, and we can discuss this. And you should rest first." Not least because of the amount of sleeping potion Michael had imbibed by this point. He'd rather not admit to having ordered that, and if he could get Michael to cooperate, it would be a great help in keeping him out of trouble.

"But what if it is her?" Michael asked, unsure about stopping when something could be happening right now. "Who knows what she's doing?" He needed to go, but he was feeling tired now...why did he feel so tired? "She's crazy, she doesn't think anyone can be good after doing anything bad, what if she's going to take it out on Dare or something?"

"If you haven't gotten a ransom note at this point, then let us assume that he is well," Eros suggested. "You haven't been taken care of, Michael. Rest for a bit and perhaps we'll rush out with wands drawn after." Even if Michael knew where to look, Eros wouldn't allow him to go alone. If the girl had something planned, the worst possible course of action would be allowing Michael to storm after her in one of his moods. And half-asleep.

Michael shook his head, "I'm okay, really." He couldn't help yawning, though, which easily gave away that he was feeling the effects of something he wasn't even aware he had ingested. He didn't want to rest when there was a possibility that Ivy was doing something. The fact that he hadn't even thought about it until just now didn't really click for him. It was something to latch onto, and it was better than thinking about something like Dare actually leaving.
