Katia looked over her group of students, seriousness written on every line of her aristocratic face. "There is a reason for excellence in potions, beyond grades, beyond OWL and NEWTS. Potions is the most versatile magic that there is." Her voice turned sultry as she walked over to a young fifth year, her fingers just touching his shoulder, and she whispered, "potions can imitate love." She walked up next to a young girl that was doodling on her parchment, "they can cause fear," her voice raised enough to make the girl jump.

"Potions can heal, wound, imitate, enhance, detract, kill, and even stop death. Yes, this tedious class that everyone is required to take is important." Katia wound her way to a bookcase on wheels that she'd brought with her to class, the shelves filled with hundreds of vials of potions. "Each vial contains something that will make life just a bit more challenging or fascinating. Some potions take hours, some take weeks, days, even months to create. And each vial is a complex mixture of ingredients that if one cut or measurement is wrong can alter the dimensions of a potion. "

"The basics of potions are as follows, a brew is made by steeping, soaking, or boiling potion ingredients. A concoction is a mixture of ingredients. An elixir is a sweetened aromatic solution used as a medicine. Tincture's are benign medicines stored in alchohol. A charming or enchanting potion is called a philter, and a draught or draft is one serving of a potion. As the majority of you passed the potions without a hitch that I sent for analysis I am going to ask you to pair off by year and create the potion I assign to you. No more than two people to a group."

Second Year: Shrinking Potion
Third Year: Polyjuice Potion
Fourth Year: Wit Sharpening Potion
Fifth Year: Unctuous Unction
Sixth Year: Veritaserum
Seventh Year: Wolfsbane Potion

Veritaserum. That was the assigned potion for Jewels, along with the other sixth years. Well, now off to find some! After first looking through her potions book to figure out exactly what the potion was, and the recipe to make it, she turned around to scan the room for a partner. Who was in here that she even knew? She turned back around in her seat, pretending to look busy as she "searched for a quill". Now, she wasn't in charge of the awkward task of finding someone to be paired up with.

Quinn looked around for other students that were segmenting by years and potion assignments, and found a girl that was vaguely familiar. Packing up her bags, Quinn wandered over to another girl in her class, "Jewels right? Want to partner with me?" She didn't know Jewels very well, she'd only met her the once in the forest, but that being said she didn't really know a whole lot of people. "I'm pretty good at potions, I only mess up with cutting things every now and again."

This professor wasn't saying anything that Nastasia didn't already know, but so far things were going well to her liking for this class. Nastasia knew the basics but she doubted any of these other dunderheads could grasp any of it. Nastasia took notice that the sixth year were assigned Veritaserum, it was a potion she knew very well and knew she would have no trouble with as she has used it many times. Nastasia looked to Albert to begin gathering the ingredients.

Albert made his way to the cupboard to gather all the ingredients. Four dittany leaves, One nettle leaf, one tendril from a flitterbloom and the boils from a Mimbulus mimbletonia. Albert got started with the dittany scraping the fur off each four leaves until he had a measurement of a teaspoon's worth. Next he got started on the boils, he placed a jar under the boils as he punctured them letting their puss spill into the jar until the jar was half full. Albert stepped back ready to asist Nastasia when she needed him

Nastasia began by starting a small fire under her cauldron, then with her knife she cut the tendril as close to the stem as she could and poured the solution inside it into the cauldron. Nastasia constantly wrung out the tendril to get all the solution out. With her knife she cut the stem of the nettle leaf into five strips and placed them in with the solution. Nastasia waited fifteen minutes and then checked the color of the strips, the strips were blond instead of green like they should be. Nastasia transferred the strips to her mortar and pestle. Nastasia took the fur that Albert had scraped off the dittany leaves with his knife and added it to the cauldron. Nastasia stirred the contents of her cauldron constantly for fifteen minutes. Albert would work on the nettle strips.

Albert picked his pestle and crushed the nettle strips until it became a fine paste. He added the paste to the cauldron

Crush the nettle until it becomes a fine paste and add all of it to the cauldron, now it was time for Nastasia to stir the potion for ten minutes. Albert had the pus of the Mimbulus mimbletonia at the ready to add it to the potion.

Nastasia stirred the potion for ten minutes after Albert added the nettle strips, she slowed down her stirring so that Albert could add some of the pus from the Mimbulous Mimbletonia gradually. Nastasia let Albert take over stirring the potion and gradually adding the pus.At first the point was cloudy as expected, the heat under her cauldron needed to be increased so Nastasia raised the heat so that the entire bottom was alight. Nastasia took back over the stirring the potion until the solution was clear. Once the potion was clear, all that was left to do was let the potion clear and once it was cool Nastasia bottled the potion in a vial that her name and Albert's.
