She was crying. "A-are you sure it's okay?" Dare asked, concerned. She'd said it was, but the tears... He wasn't at all sure what to say, and looked over at Silver helplessly. Not that Silver would help him out, but at least he felt a little less at sea.

Silver's quill had stopped at the sound of that sob, and for a moment, he was entirely still. He felt like he should do something, but what? He didn't know, and so he stared down at his parchment with his quill poised, hoping neither of them noticed that he'd stopped writing. He suddenly wished Dare had sat across the room instead of directly beside him.

Quinn wiped at her eyes, a faint smile breaking on her lips, "I'm sure it's wonderful. No one has ever given me anything like this before." Putting the frame down she smiled, "I'm happy you did." How was she supposed to phrase this, with a quick glance over at Silver Quinn smiled, this was her gift back to Dare. "I wanted to invite both of you to the benefits concert, the advocacy club is throwing on October 12th."

Dare blinked, somewhat thrown by the seemingly sudden offer, and by the idea of a concert. Even an advocacy club concert. "What's it for? I mean, if it's for something..." For all he knew it was just a general advocacy concert, though he didn't know anything about that kind of thing. He wanted to ask what kind of music, if there were going to be any bands he'd know there, but he reigned himself in for now and let her answer the question he'd already asked.

She was inviting him to a concert? Silver looked up now, incredulous, though he managed not to stare at the girl—Quinn—like she was totally crazy. He could tell Dare was excited about it, but that was Dare's kind of thing. Not his. He decided to keep quiet for now, and if she asked him for an answer, he'd have to say no. Maybe he could donate a Galleon and some Sickles to the cause and let that be enough.

Quinn nodded, "it's for gay rights, Brindle says that that date is UK's coming out day, and we thought..." she blushed she'd thought he'd want to come because of him and Michael. It was still awkward to ask him about, especially with the reception she'd come to understand they'd been received with when they'd started being together. She didn't want to put any pressure on him about it, but she wanted him to go, especially since she wanted him to help play. "I wanted to work on Magical Creature rights too, but Brindle thought that with that day coming up so soon that it would be a better choice."

Dare nodded his agreement, even more excited now that he knew what it was for. "Yeah, I'll go. I'll get Michael, too. You want us to help out or anything?" He was sure Michael would want in, that it would remind him just as much of everything they'd done during their honeymoon. He realized that it wouldn't be as easy as being congratulated and waving at a welcoming crowd, but they were more willing to take chances now, to actually do something instead of hiding. "What kind of music?" he asked.

Silver could feel Dare's excitement, and he could understand why. He still didn't know everything that had gone on in the past year, hadn't even heard many whispers, but he knew his brother and Michael, and he could see them getting into it. He, however, was taking advantage of the fact that he was more or less in the shadows again. He wrote a note in the corner of his parchment about the 12th, then tried to start writing again, slowly and quietly enough that hopefully no one would notice.

Quinn nodded, "we could really use some help." How did she phrase this so that she didn't scare him away like they thought she would. "Madison wants to play indie music, they decided that it was to soon to call in a band, so she says that she needs a second guitarist and a vocalist. We were...kind of hoping that you'd help her out." She put on her best hopeful face, her eyes still shining a bit from the moisture of her tears. Quinn glanced over at Silver, and wished she could draw him into the conversation too, he was so quiet she was afraid that she might have said or done something, but she needed to hear from Dare first.

That stopped Dare short, turning his excitement to discomfort, though he tried not to show it. Still, his smile was gone. He was wishing he hadn't given into temptation and played Madison's guitar, wished he hadn't told her he played. Silver didn't know he was playing again!
"I don't play," he said. "Madison's the only one I know who does." He couldn't meet her eyes anymore, and he couldn't look at his brother. "I'm sorry. I... I'll like help you set up or something." Why in hell had he played for Madison? Because you needed to, a voice whispered. It reminded you of better times. Or at least, easier times.

Silver had looked up at that, and his eyes slid over to his brother. It hurt hearing it, but what was he supposed to do? He'd argued then, and Dare had insisted. Dare had refused to play. It didn't surprise him that he was still holding onto that. He didn't have the heart to write again just now, so he gave up pretense, and while he didn't watch them, he listened.

Quinn sighed, "Madison thought...thought you might. She said that you were wonderful, and if your art is any indication...you're more than wonderful. I don't want to pressure you, if you really don't want to play, I can accept that, but I want to give you the chance." Because it was something that she couldn't do herself, she couldn't give that to him or to anyone else she was helping, fundraising, posters ect. that she could do. "But we need help with poster too, if you'd rather do that."

Heat streaked up the back of Dare's neck, and anger at Madison crept through the embarrassment and shame of Silver hearing all this. "I don't play," he insisted. "I don't know what Madison was talking about." She wanted posters too. And he wanted out of here. "I'll do your posters," he said. "Later." He started packing up his bag. Class was close enough to over that he thought he could get away with leaving.

Silver looked at Dare now, then pulled his gaze away and dropped it to his parchment. He picked up his quill again, unable to write just yet, and started tracing over letters he'd already written, filling in spots where the ink wasn't dark enough. He couldn't make his brother see reason. There had never been any convincing him that it had nothing to do with his guitar, that it all still would have happened. He hoped beyond hope that Quinn wouldn't ask him what this was all about.

Quinn watched helplessly as Dare walked away, knowing for a fact this time that she'd done something wrong. "I didn't think he would be upset. Madison said that he was great with a guitar, I just thought..." She didn't know what she'd been thinking, "Brindle told me to talk to Michael, but it seemed underhanded."
