Damien was in the classroom long before the first students had arrived, making and checking lists. If he was uncomfortable being back at Hogwarts after his brief stint here in sixth year, he wasn't consciously aware of it. That had been nearly a decade ago, and Headmistress Rose was long gone.
He paused only minutes before class was to begin and pulled a miniature out of his pocket, a small wizarding portrait of a witch with pale skin and dark hair, and vivid, spring-green eyes. His own shifted from violet to deep-ocean blue, and after a moment, he snapped the miniature closed and tucked it away again to write on the board.

Note: Parseltongue is a gift, not a learned language.[/blockquote]
When the class was seated, Damien turned his full attention to them, expecting the same in return. "I am Professor laSalle," he began. "Much of my life has been spent moving from one place to another, and so I have a firm grasp of different cultures and languages, both magical and nonmagical. In this class, we will cover only the former. If you wish to learn Spanish, French, Italian, or Swedish, you may leave the classroom."
After a pause, Damien resumed his lecture. "Over the course of the year, we will be studying six languages, though there will not be time for you to learn all of them. Today, I want to know only which languages you are most interested in being able to speak by end of term. Please choose two or three. Do not choose Parseltongue. When you have handed in your choices, you may leave."
