It was as if the place was foreign to her. How long had it been since she sat in this exact same spot and read decent literature? So long that it seemed more like a dream than the past that she could faintly remember.
The tree provided her with shade from the sun while she sat with her bare legs stretched before her on the grass. The temperature was not overly hot, but the sun heated the grounds making it hotter than it really was. For this, she had opted for shorts and a rather form fitting t-shirt that she was comfortable in, she barely noticed the heat.
With her entertained by the book, she was quite unaware of the sounds of other students playing around, it seemed that everyone was enjoying their summer, and she would enjoy the last of it.

Jasmine had wandered out of the castle, the only way she could think of to distract herself. If she just sat in the common room her mind would surely stray to thoughts of Lalita and their brief last conversation. Why had things seemed so different? But different in a good way...Ugh! She was doing what she didn't want to do, thinking of her! So, Jasmine broke free of those thoughts and looked around at the lake which she had somehow ended up at. Looking around she spotted a girl who was reading. Now that's a good idea, she thought to herself. Now...where did she put her book?

Lafra was engrossed in her book, her eyes scanned quickly from side to side.
"They're certainly entitled to think that, and they're entitled to full respect for their opinions... but before I can live with other folks I've got to live with myself. The one thing that doesn't abide by majority rule is a person's conscience." she read aloud to herself, quite taken by the characters attitude. There was a gentle smile on her lips as she finished the chapter and looked up and around her.
Not too far off was a girl who seemed to be looking for something. Lafra shrugged and went back to reading, it wasn't her place to ask nor did she really care much about the girl she didn't know. She turned the page and started reading the next chapter, making her surrounding the very background of her attention.

Jasmine couldn't find the book in the bag she had been holding. It was a small bag too, how could it get lost in that? She sighed and gave up looking for it. Then she remembered, it was on her bed in the common room. Figures. Well, instead of going back inside to retrive it, she was already out here, might as well make the most of it. Seeing a tree, empty of students, she walked over and sat at the base of it. It was shading and comfortable with a good view of the lake. As much as she hated it, maybe this was a good time to think about everything. It sure was a good place, at least.
As her thoughts consumed her, her eyes ended up wandering around to the people here. The girl reading caught her attention most of all though, she just seemed so engrossed in the book. As much as Jasmine loved to read, she had never been that focused before while doing it. It was almost fascinating to observe.
