Standing at a petite 4'8, Layne looked around the Great Hall chomping on gum. My my how this place was big...and also very plain. It had the structure and technique of an old building but the decorations made it look too antique. Too boring. What this place needed was flair and vibrancy! She smiled to herself, what this place needed was her! Getting away from less egotistical thoughts, she wondered how she could ever call this place home. Well, she had time. This was only her fifth year after all. She blew a bubble of her gum and listened as it popped, making an echo in the large room.

Completely lost from all her classes, Erin guessed her way through the castle and ended up, once again, in the Great Hall, which was completely empty except for another girl. Erin hesitated, then walked up and introduced herself. "Hi." she said "My name's Erin, I'm a Ravenclaw 3rd year. You are? " she asked.

"Hey!" Layne said, friendly as ever -if not a bit too loud. "I'm Layne Razz," She said, pushing her gum to the side of her mouth with her tounge so that she could talk clearly, "Fifth year Gryffindor. I'm new as I assume you are to...?" She let her question fall flat in the air, it would be unwise to assume so much but the poor girl did look lost. If she was wrong, well then thats what happens when one assumes.

"I'm new, and really lost." Erin smiled in response " But assuming only gets you so far." she paused to look the girl up and down. "Layne right? Nice to meet you." Erin flashed another smile, suddenly remembering why she was here. "Oh, yeah, I'm looking for the Library. You know where it is?" she asked hopefully.

"Sorry, I'm just as lost as you. This place is huge," Layne said, wide-eyed and with a shrug. This girl, Erin, seemed pretty cool. She may be a few years younger, but Layne liked her already. "So, when did you first get here?" If it so happened that this was both of their first day or couple of days here, then what better way to befriend a person then by getting lost together!

"Oh, well I've been here a couple of days." Erin responded. "How about you?" she asked. Layne seemed like she could be a really cool friend. "And you're right this place is huge. This is my third time here since breakfast."

"My first day. But wow," Layne whistled, "I bet I could spend my first couple just looking for the common room. Oh well, I'm not in any rush. I've got all summer." She continued chewing her gum until it lost it's flavor. Digging into her pocket she took out a packet of gum, nearly filled with the different flavors and put another piece in her mouth. "Want a piece?" She asked Erin, offering what she had.

" I would love some." Erin said, taking a piece from the packet and putting it into her mouth. Chewing helped her think. " So.... what do you like about the castle?" she asked as she chewed. "After all, the only downside is that it's old."

"Yeah, I guess it's cool and all that it's old but I think they could modernize it up a bit. Ya know what I mean?" Layne blew another bubble, bigger this time since the newly added stick and watched as it got larger. POP! She started to crack up when she saw that her gum had popped all over her face. Between laughs, she attempted to wipe the sticky mess off of her face.

Watching Layne's bubble blow up in her face was too much for Erin. She cracked up, happy that Layne was laughing too. Then she tried blowing a bubble. It popped, leaving Erin with tons of gum in her hair. "This is the beginning of a really bad hair day." she said, looking over at Layne.

"I couldn't agree more!" Layne said, getting the gum off of her face. Her laughter went down to a chuckle then it stopped, leaving only a huge grin. She tried to remember the last time she laughed that hard, and drew a blank. This school was going to be fun! It was such a shame that Erin wasn't in the same house though. Throwing the gum away in a nearby trash can, Layne decided to not put a fresh stick of gum in her mouth for a while.

Erin smiled again. Layne was awesome! "You know, you're the coolest person I've met." she said, looking over. "Don't you plan to leave the Hall anytime today?" she asked a look of amusement spreading through her face. " 'Cause as long as you don't panic, it is really fun getting lost." she said. "Besides, I think I found the Gryffindor Common Room while looking for the Library..." she added.

Layne did a quick curtsy, "Thanks! Same to you. And, I don't mind getting lost. Besides, if you found the Gryf. room you'll be useful to me." She stuck out her tounge in a playful tease. Who knew that making friends was so easy! Other schools hadn't been like this, but hey she was certainly not complaining! "So," she said, looking around, "Which way should we start?"

Erin smiled again. "You choose." she said. "Let's just see if you can finish what I started 2 days ago." she mentally weighed the odds. "What sort of trouble do you want to work up first?" she asked, the smile becoming slightly mischevous.

"Uhh," Layne looked around at the room, getting a good sense of which way might hold what. The area to the right seemed to big and open. Most likely not a good place to find anything useful. The area to the left was the same. The stairs, however, created an infinite amount of place to go. So, she pointed in that direction,"How 'bout thataway? "From there, we could see what we could find along the corriders, and who knows, maybe the trouble will work it's way up to us."
