Even with Vane's warnings, Connor was more than excited. Butterflies flitted around in his stomach and he was sure his heart was going to beat right out of his chest if it didn't calm down soon. Beneath his protective blanket of hair his eyes were bright. He hadn't at all been sure what to wear, afraid to look too dressed-up but scared to death that he would look shabby. So he had settled on his nicest jeans and a artfully faded green-gray shirt with a ragged design stitched onto one side of his chest. He ran a hand through his hair.

Melody spotted Connor and a smile started to form. She looked down once more to make sure she looked alright. She was wearing her jeans with the paint splatters as the main design. Finding a shirt hadn't been as hard as she thought it would be. Seeing as the design on the pants had colors like red, magenta, purple, blue, and brown a shirt would be impossible to not match. So, she had picked out a cute blue top that contrasted with her orangeish-redish hair which had been pulled up into a high ponytail for the day.
As she neared Connor she let loose one lock of hair from the ponytail and let it hang nicely by her face. "Hey," She said, her smile widening.

Connor's nerves all at once left and he shook his hair from his eyes for a moment to get a better look at Melody. "Hey," he said, breathlessly. Then all his nerves came back and he shook his head gently to force the hair back down over his eyes. "So, um, are those the pants you were talking about?" Duh, he reprimanded himself. Of course they are, idiot. "I mean....uh...you look good." He gave a small smile, silently cursing himself for being so nervous around her. Why couldn't he be cool about it like Vane or Ransley?

"Thank you, and so do you." Melody said, feeling the wamth in her cheeks in response to the compliment, "And yeah, these are them." She glanced down at her jeans, hoping that he didn't just see them as pants with paint. They had been a work of art at the time. Maybe she shouldn't have worn them... Instead of dwelling on that though, Melody changed the subject, "So, um what's new?" It was a relatively lame question, but currently Melody couldn't think of what else to say.

Connor shook his head, "Nothing, really, you?" He didn't like the small talk, but the sooner they got it out of the way the sooner they could start walking around and looking in the shops. He put his hand in his pocket to check that his money pouch was still there. The very last thing he wanted was to lose the money. "Did you settle in okay?"

Melody shrugged, "Not much either but I've met a couple people." Her mind turned toward Rayne and Markise, two of her favorite people -aside from Connor- that she had met. "And yeah, settling in was fine. I got a chance to sketch then meet one other Hufflepuff. I swear, that room is dead. No one ever seems to go in there!" She wondered if that was a result of not a lot of Hufflepuffs or just that other people had homes elsewhere. Either way, she hadn't minded be alone. She had gotten time to write a letter asking for her paints back, that was an accomplishment!

"Yeah, the Gryffindor common room seems to be the same way, I've only seen a couple others so far." It didn't seem to be a lack of students, there were plenty of them in the halls, but it seemed strange that there weren't many in the common rooms. "So, um, where do you want to go first?" he asked, glancing down the street. There were so many shops, but he had no idea where Melody would want to go.

"Uh, I don't know. I don't really know what's around here. Maybe we should just walk until we see something interesting?" She hadn't been in Diagon Alley that she could remember well. Maybe if they had an art shop she could drag Connor in, or just a nice little cafe to hang out. On the outside she was still smiling a little but inside she was worrying that this date wasn't going as she planned. What happened to her being the confident person she knew she could be? It had been easier with Andrew, but she realized she would give it time. Connor was totally worth it!

Conor nodded, glad to have at least an idea to latch onto. "That sounds fine to me," he said. They could window shop, talk some, maybe something would come of it. He firmly pushed away thoughts of his conversation with Vane. He put his hands in his pockets self consciously and turned left to start walking.
