Ryan walked out onto the pitch with his broom, his eyes stinging, trying not to think, trying not to lose everything. He got on his broom and flew into the air and sat there for a little while looking out into the sky and thinking. What has happened? Are the rumors true? Why would she do it? As he thought about these things he started to softly cry.

This was the first time that Markise had been to the pitch at Hogwarts, a bizarre thought, but as far as he knew, they still hadn't had a game. He wanted some time to think without the risk of running into someone he knew, and between his friends and acquaintances, they knew all his hiding places. He didn't expect to find anyone there, but there was a boy flying. Or hovering, really. From the ground, Markise couldn't see much, but there was something in the air that kept him from speaking just yet.

Ryan looked down and saw someone on the ground. He gathered himself and decided to be friendly and flew down to the ground. He came up near a guy that he hadn't met and said "Hello there".

Markise blinked in surprise. Maybe Ryan didn't know him, but it would have been impossible for him not to know who his House prefect was. They'd never met, but Markise had seen him around. "Hi," he replied, reduced to monosyllables for now. He could see the signs of tears that still lingered, and he wondered what he'd interrupted, though it looked like Ryan didn't mind the interruption. "You're Ryan Magby, aren't you?" Markise asked.

Ryan nodded and looked at the boy, he realized he had seen him before. He was a Hufflepuff prefect, he still didn't know his name though "I'm sorry, I know you but I don't quite know your name."

"Markise Sterling," Markise said. He extended his hand for a confident, practiced shake. "I don't get around much at Hogwarts, so no problem." Actually, he preferred being relatively unknown. It caused much less trouble. And Ryan would have no idea about his disclaimer. At Hogwarts. It was true, at least.

Ryan shook his hand and smiled "Nice to actually meet you. So what brings you out here?"

I'm a major Quidditch groupie. Markise kept that comment silent, but it was at least part of the truth, if not all of it. There were plenty of other places he could have gone, but the Quidditch pitch had sounded good today. "Just trying to get away from everything," he said instead. That was just as true and far less revealing. "What about you?" Markise would guess the same, but he wouldn't say as much.

Ryan decided not to bother him with the full details "Same for me. Tough month for me." he said as he looked into the sky. He remembered the first time he came out to the pitch with Vannah and the race that they had, and he had to look away quickly to keep a tear from coming out.

Markise pretended not to notice the obvious glisten of the tears threatening Ryan. He was sure the guy wouldn't appreciate being called on it. He wished he could help though, and not entirely because it would distract him from his own problems. "This school is crazy," he said, subtly prompting Ryan to say more. He didn't read the Daily Prophet so he knew nothing about the mentions of Ryan, nor Vannah, who he'd never even met. He knew how the paper twisted things.

Ryan nodded and could tell that he hadn't really heard any of the things going on. He had heard a couple of things about Markise from the Prophet but was not going to bring any of it up. He thought for a bit and asked "You are kind of new here aren't you?" trying to get the focus off of him a little.

"I've been here since October," Markise said. "If that makes me new, I guess so." He certainly didn't feel new. He'd stopped getting lost months ago and it felt like he'd been here forever. He was more than ready to go home and counting down to the end of the semester.

((Sorry about the delay, just finished up with the play so i should be on more now.))
Ryan thought and said "That's not as new as I thought, so i guess not." he said and looked around "So do you play?" he asked, wondering if he could start a good topic on quidditch.

Markise was glad for the change of subject, and to something he was interested in, if not good at. "I fly, but I couldn't make it on a team. I'm into it, though. I watch." He looked at Ryan a moment, recalling him hovering up in the air, but couldn't make any kind of guess from that. "What position do you play?" he asked.

Ryan smiled "Chaser. It's my favorite position because you get to use a lot of deception to beat the keeper."
