Markise's lips curved reflexively into a smile at the sight of Zane's. "You have a brother?" he asked, letting himself show at least that much interest. "What year is he in?" What year are you in? he wanted to ask. It wouldn't do any good to be too eager, though. Pumping someone for information was definitely out of the question.
Still, Markise's pale blue eyes were sparkling with that interest. He told himself to calm down. The length of time since he'd had any actual physical contact didn't matter. Even if his mind refused to stop handing him scenarios that would really be more appropriate when he wasn't in a conversation. He really had gotten pathetically desperate.

Zane, didn’t notice the excitement, his mind drifted off to his brother, he was probably sleeping somewhere, doing absolutely nothing but watching the clouds… or something else that was a waste of time.
“Vincent is a year younger than I, 6th year. Although, I’m not sure what house he was sorted into yet.” he doubted his brother would be a Slytherin as well, he didn’t have similar qualities.
“For all I care, he’s probably found a bench or something and dozed off, an annoyance. Do you have any siblings?” his question was casual, although, if he had a sister, and one who was as pretty as this guy was… maybe he could look into finding her. While he kept the casual grin on the outside, internally the thought made him smirk, he knew his emotions showed, but he could just pull it off as amusement or interest rather than what was going through his mind at that point.

"I have a sister in 5th year," Markise answered. He was watching Zane as much as he could get away with and still not be obvious, and that look in his eyes didn't go unnoticed. He didn't know what it was for, but all the same, now that his sister was the topic of conversation, his guard came up. It was all well and good for him to have a thing for bad boys, but they weren't for his little sister.
"Her name is Brindle. She's probably outside somewhere practicing defensive magic with her boyfriend." Who is six-foot-three. Okay, so maybe Deimos wasn't her boyfriend, but at this point, even he seemed preferable, if Markise had to choose for her. Deimos could hardly manage to look directly at Brindle. Maybe Markise liked him after all.
He didn't particularly care if he was being obvious. Yes, he realized that Brindle could take care of herself. Physically, at least. That didn't mean anything, though. If she kept crushing on Dare for the rest of her life, he'd be happy. She could date after she was married.

A brow raised at the little source of information, she was a bit younger than him, especially because he had just turned 18 recently, but he didn't have to do anything, watching from afar would be good enough, of course he'd have to do it in a way that wouldn't make him seem like a stalker. It was the second part of the information that made his eyes spark up, if she had a boyfriend... wouldn't it make it that much more fun.
"A younger sister, I'm happy to say I don't have one of those." he was glad, it would be a pain trying to watch over a younger sister, to keep tabs on where she was going and with whom. The last thing he needed was to find his sister with a guy much like himself.
"I hope it's not much of a bother to ask, but do you happen to know any place where I can get myself a decent book... or a decent place to have fun." the last word rolled of his lips, he did it to emphasize his point, he was sure Markise knew what he meant.
Zane knew that he couldn't spend the rest of the year in the Library, and he definitely wasn't one who was going to stick his nose in a book whenever he could, he needed to get out of the school, maybe explore the place a bit might help, but having Markise give him all the information would make things easier.

Fun. Markise was liking Zane less and less, and he refused to let himself think that it was because he was fairly sure that Zane was straight. Maybe he should have told Zane that Brindle was homely and boring. She wasn't, but then he wouldn't be so tense right now, he was sure. At least he hadn't warned the guy about her hobby. Markise would be glad to hear if he found out on his own. Especially if Brindle demonstrated on him.
But he turned his mind back to the question, glad to have something else to talk about.
"There's a book store in Hogsmeade," Markise said. He decided he'd go warn Anna, too. Not that he actually had any proof that Zane was dangerous, since he was being so polite, but he'd become almost as protective over Anna as he was over his sister.
"And it depends on what kind of fun you mean." Markise wasn't stupid, but his thoughts were on Brindle and Anna right now. Besides, his skills ran far more toward the physical than the verbal.

He made a mental note to visit the bookshop. With a slight smirk at Markise's question, he once again, put both legs down and leaned forwards, this time his voice much lower than before. At first his grin was wolfish, but that slowly disappeared.
"What other form can fun take?" he replied to Markise's with a question, he leaned back, trying to compose his face, but couldn't completly hide the smirk, his eyes were wildly flashing, his own blue eyes brighter than they usually were.

Girls. Markise was distinctly uncomfortable, but his lips quirked all the same into a forced half-smile. He hoped it looked conspiratorial rather than annoyed. He really should have just grabbed a book and left. Then he wouldn't be stuck here playing the straight man, no pun intended, to an Italian shark.
"There's a club in Hogsmeade," he suggested, jumping on the first easy answer. "The Bloody Mary. It doesn't get better than that unless you take the Knight Bus to London." Markise hated the Knight Bus, but Ariel liked it and Ariel was a shark, so why not? Markise would far prefer Zane went to London anyway, if the alternative meant him prowling around Brindle and Annabelle.

He could go to London, but he had been there many times before he had become a student in Hogwarts. He crossed his arms, studying Markise, his smile was slightly off for some strange reason.
"I'll see about that later." his voice sounded bored, what else could he get out of this guy, he could have waited another week to figure things out about the school, but that would delay his fun, something he couldn't prolong.
"If it's not too much of a bother, but what is it that you perceive as fun?" the question came out casual, but Zane was a bit curious as to the answer, either Markise had the wrong idea because of the smile, or he had something else in mind.

That was a loaded question, and if Markise were to answer truthfully, he might as well point the wand at his own head and get it over with. There were, of course, hobbies aside from that first thought of fun, but they led to automatic assumptions that he didn't care to fight. So fashion was out, though he dressed well enough that anyone who thought about it would notice at least that much.
In that same instant after Zane's question, Markise considered whether he really wanted to discourage Zane, or if it mattered in the first place. Still, his pride wouldn't let him declare himself boring. Even the thought of it chafed him.
"I go out to the club when I can," he answered instead. "There isn't much else to do during winter, and it's fun." the tone of his voice implied his thought that the Bloody Mary really wasn't that exciting. It had worked at first, when he'd gone every night to get out his excess energy, but that was before he'd discovered his other club, the one he reserved Friday nights for. And most of Saturday for recovery.

So it was going to be like that. Markise didn't seem to be completly saying everything maybe it was a gut feeling, but he leaned forward, curiosity getting the best of him once again.
"It's fun... the first few times, but is that all Hogwarts can offer?" maybe Zane was pushing his luck, but if there was any form of fun he liked best, it would be this one. Zane knew that he hid his true intentions behind polite words, they always seemed to lure people in.
Now Zane wondered where he was going with this one, probably going to find a way to figure out all the 'hidden' secrets of Hogwarts, too back the Daily Prophet, which his father used to always read despite being in Italy, seemed to show the inside information of Hogwarts. He wondered if maybe Markise was one of the few who had fallen victim to the paper.

Markise refused to let his imagination get away with him again. He refused to let himself see anything in the words other than the words themselves. He was really only a master of witty repartee when it involved flirting, harmless or otherwise, and he never made the first move. A flash of Ariel at the edge of the lake flickered across his mind. Well, he never made the first move unless he was sure, at least.
"It really depends on what you're into," Markise said, giving a variation on his previous response. His lips quirked. "There's a trick step between the fifth and six floors." There was a dangerous thought, especially with Ariel already hovering at the edges of his mind. He glanced out into the library, repressing the thought and hoping he looked amused rather than wistful and mildly aroused.

Zane was completly oblivious to everything going in Markise's mind. For once, it required more time to figure something out. For a moment there was a frown, but it was immediately replaced by an amused look.
"I'm open to a lot of things." a lot didn't mean every, but Zane had tried loads of things in his life, most he didn't regret, some he was hoping he could completly forget about and move on, especially because he lost something when it came to one of the biggest mistakes he ever made.
"Just a trick step, and I have heard that Hogwarts is filled with mysterious, I heard there are corridors still undiscovered." his reply seemed casual, but his mind was spinning with ideas, mostly ones that revolved around getting what he wanted, his favorite brand of fun there was.
"Since you are the first person I have spoken too, maybe one day, you could help me solve some of the mysteries surrounding Hogwarts. Tell me, do you also enjoy mysteries." his mind was still working hard at figuring out more about Markise, to the common eye he seemed normal, well for Italians who were used to men accepting there more feminine side, but still, his personalty seemed layered to Zane, he was holding back on something and Zane wanted to fine out.

That caught Markise's attention. Not Zane's question, not really. Not in comparison to the suggestion they solve the mysteries of Hogwarts together. Even when the suggestion was set out as a future possibility. Still, Markise held on to caution.
"If the mystery's worth solving," he said. Dammit, why did it sound like he was flirting? Markise wasn't sure if his voice had gone softer there, but he told himself to be more careful all the same. "So, what? You want a tour of the castle?" His self-admonitions never really worked. At least he wasn't playing with his hair, or he'd have to learn a hex just to use it on himself.

"Sadly, for me, curiosity get's the best of me, I'd be willing to solve even the smallest mysterious hiding within these walls." his lip was turned up, his memory of Rome returning. He remembered the mysteries held over there, the truth behind some of their history was so loaded with magic it was a wonder the muggles weren't able to catch on.
"I would like a nice tour of the castle." he made sure to hide the smile, but the obvious excitement was obvious in his eyes, then again, it could be easily mistaken as amusement. In reality, he was curious about Markise more so than the school, curiosity was becoming a problem and addiction of some kind.

Markise was beginning to hope, and he mentally kicked himself for it. Hard. He was thinking too much, listening to Zane's words and hearing what he wanted to hear rather than watching for the physical tells that couldn't lie. There weren't any of those. He'd just made an offer to show a painfully hot Italian around the school, and nothing would come of it.
He'd had crushes on straight guys before, it was unavoidable considering how deeply in the closet most guys his age were. His mind kept tossing Dare at him though, reminding him that it had turned out Dare was bi all along. Markise mentally frowned. There were so many reasons not to think about that.
"The castle's huge," Markise said, dragging his eyes away from Zane. "Maybe I could point out the important stuff. There really aren't any mysteries left." And yet he wasn't mentioning the Room of Requirement, and he had no intention to. Zane already had that accent and those heinously good looks, he did not need the added help of a room to drag girls to. Markise let himself concentrate on that. That would certainly keep him from flirting again.
