Ariel wanted to say no, he wanted so badly to say no and pull himself away before anything happened and he got too deep into things. Ariel wanted to say yes and then never leave, but stay there with Markise, someone that wanted him and not the services he offered. He nodded. "I'll stay, I promise."

Markise let out a soft breath of relief, and his lips curved slightly at Ariel's answer. He gave in to impulse, not for the first time tonight, and brought up one hand to settle lightly against Ariel's jaw. Then he tipped up his chin, pressing a soft kiss to Ariel's opposite cheek. "Thank you," he murmured.

Ariel closed his eyes and just kept himself from turning his head into the soft kiss. He wanted the kiss, but he knew he couldn't take it. "You're welcome," he replied softly, then moved away from Markise. One arm stayed steadily at his waist and the other reached for the blankets to pull them down. "Lay down," he urged, his voice still low.

Markise gave another light nod and let Ariel help him sit on the bed. "I want my shoes off," he said, then started pushing them off by the heels, something he had plenty of practice doing when he'd been drinking. He pulled off his socks next, dropping everything into a careless pile, then, without a moment's thought, started tugging his shirt off over his head. He didn't at all intend to sleep naked, but it wasn't so cold that he needed to sleep fully dressed.

Ariel took a breath and turned his head, reminding himself firmly that Markise was drunk. But it was hard to convince himself that he shouldn't do anything, especially when he knew the likelihood Markise would even remember. He stepped away from the bed and started looking around for a chair. There was no reason for him to share a bed with Markise when he was just going to leave.

Markise dropped his shirt on the floor, then started to shuffle under the slightly threadbare sheets. "Aren't you gonna... lay down wit me?" Markise asked through a yawn. He lay back and tugged the covers up under his chin, then kept himself awake watching Ariel. He hoped Ariel made up his mind soon, because he wasn't used to staying awake once he'd gone horizontal.

Ariel stopped moving and closed his eyes before he turned to the bed. "Do you want me to?" he asked, though just Markise asking should have been enough to tell him that yes, Markise wanted him to lay down. But he was afraid to lay with him. He had so far succeeded in keeping himself from doing anything to Markise, but could he continue the same if he was laying in a bed with a shirtless Markise?

Markise's eyes slipped closed now, but he hummed a soft mmhm. He wanted Ariel right next to him so he could cuddle up like he used to... Markise was out before his hazy thought could get any further than that. He let out a sigh, then lost himself to a deep, dreamless sleep.

Ariel had closed his eyes briefly at the affirmation, only to be stopped at the edge of the bed by the realization that Markise was already asleep. He firmly told himself he wasn't disappointed and forcibly turned away from the bed to leave. He locked the door to Markise's room before heading to his own across the hall. He emptied out his pockets, kicked off his shoes, and slid his belt out of the loops before laying down in his own bed. His eyes hooked on the carefully folded parchment that had names listed on it even as his mind hovered in the opposite room with Markise.

Markise slept like the dead. Normally he did so until Saturday afternoon, but he'd had so much to drink last night that even the morning sun fighting its way through grimy windows was enough to pierce his consciousness. His brows knitted and he groaned softly with discomfort, shifting just a bit beneath the covers. Then his stomach clenched and he leaned over the side of the bed, retching.

Ariel hadn't slept much at all, helped along by the late-night visitor that he had owed some time to. Once he had been alone and taken a long shower, he had tried to catch a couple hours before going across the hall to Markise's room. He had been in the room for a long hour or two before Markise woke up and Ariel couldn't stop the wrinkle of his nose at Markise's way of waking up. He pulled out his wand to clean up the mess and moved to sit on the bed by Markise.
"Lay back down," he said, reaching a hand up to Markise's back. If he knew that Markise might not even have remembered the night before, he pushed the thought away to concentrate solely on helping him like he had promised. If he was pushed away, then he would deal with it when that came.

Markise was still too out of it to argue, or to even think, so he did what the voice said and lay back again, grimacing at his body's threat of more to come. He lay for some moments trying to relax before it began to filter into his mind that this didn't feel like his bed, and that he wasn't alone.
Markise cracked open his eyes. They flew open the rest of the way, then immediately narrowed at the weak light as he struggled to scoot into a sitting position. "What the hell... goin' on here?" he asked, the words thick with sleep and nearly unintelligible. He tried peering out from under his black-painted lashes at the apparition--was he still drunk?--but it didn't go away. Markise leaned back on one arm, and the other hand rose to press against the side of his head, steadying him a bit.

Ariel sighed and shifted up toward Markise. "I saw you at the club last night, you got pretty drunk so I got you a room here to sleep it off," he said. He waited for Markise to tell him to leave, though he didn't think he could leave Markise just yet, not when he was much like he had been the first night they had been to the club together.

Markise forced his eyes open more so he could look at Ariel properly, since apparently he wasn't hallucinating. "We didn't like, f~ did we?" he asked, still extremely wary. He could remember that dance now that he thought about it, but it got fuzzy pretty quickly after that. He hoped to God he hadn't said anything stupid. Normally there wasn't anyone around who... no, Ariel didn't matter either. Just as long as he didn't throw himself at Ariel.

"Didn't even kiss," Ariel said, shaking his head. He could keep that small, soft kiss on his cheek to himself, since he couldn't imagine that Markise would remember it. "You know I wouldn't do anything with you drunk like that." They hadn't been together long, and certainly not often with Markise drunk, but Ariel had kept anything from happening that one day and he had had no intentions of changing his ideals just because they weren't together anymore.
