Markise waited impatiently for Ariel to finish his damned death stick, still staring sightlessly into the display. He shouldn't have told Ariel that they could go back to school together. He should have just said goodbye and been done with it. Well, at least now he wouldn't be sighing over everything that had happened before. This morning and last night, knowing what Ariel was doing with himself, had gone a long way to helping Markise build a sturdy wall around himself.
Markise blinked when he realized the shop's owner had approached the window. Apparently she had problems with loitering or something, because she was gesturing for him to move on. He narrowed his eyes slightly, then moved on toward the next window instead.

Ariel finished it quickly, perhaps a little quicker than he should have, and snubbed it into the wall before dropping it on the ground and walking over to Markise. "So you go clubbing a lot now?" he asked, as though the previous exchange hadn't happened. He didn't see a point in bringing up what had just happened, it wasn't any kind of big deal in his eyes.

Markise's brows narrowed, but as his lips parted for a reply, he caught the strong smell of Ariel's just-finished cigarette. He coughed and stepped away, then turned his head away in an attempt to save himself from another bout of vomiting. Not that he'd never danced with a smoker before, but it took them long enough to get into the main areas of the club that it had dissipated by then. "Every Friday," he answered simply, then closed his mouth again.

Ariel nodded and gave Markise a little distance without thinking about why he did. "So you've been having fun," he noted, looking over at Markise. His mind was on the night before and how they had danced, on how good it had felt to hold Markise later on. "Are you going to hang out with that redhead again?" he asked, the sense of attachment boiling at the thought of Markise going back to the guy.

Markise bypassed the first question for the second, deciding to just give Ariel his answer so they could go on. "I'll talk to him, and I'll be more careful," he said. He didn't think he'd ever been as wasted as he'd been last night; it was a miracle he was walking at all. Only stubbornness and the desire to pass out on his bed for the rest of the day was keeping him going.

Ariel's eyes darkened and he looked down at Markise. "Shouldn't be around someone like that, if he tried once, he'll try again." He didn't even begin to think of any hypocrisy in the statement. He would never do anything against someone's will, he didn't think it was right to take advantage of someone that couldn't think straight.

Markise nearly rolled his eyes at that. "He's never tried it before," he said, as though that explained everything. He didn't bother telling Ariel that he didn't usually drink that much. He didn't need to hear that you are so a whore snort he had perfected.
"Where are we going?" Markise asked, purposefully changing the subject. "The shop ought to be open by now." He didn't at all look forward to the horrible spinning of the Portkey, but it was free and it was fast.

"I was going to just try the Knight Bus," Ariel said as he firmly ignored the annoyance he felt at the subject change. Couldn't Markise just accept that, even though there was technically nothing between them anymore, Ariel didn't want anything to happen to him? He only vaguely remembered how they had gotten back the last time, but he knew he would much rather just use the bus.

Markise looked aside at Ariel, and he could see that annoyance in the way Ariel's jaw was set. He didn't need Ariel playing all possessive, it was ridiculous. They'd never even been friends really, so there shouldn't be anything there.
"I don't feel like arguing," Markise said at last. He'd been on his feet far too long, and even the idea of that Portkey made him nauseous. He'd go wherever the hell Ariel led him as long as it ended with him unconscious in bed.

Ariel could feel how quickly their time together was disappearing and his movements slowed. He got a sudden, vivid memory of how Markise used to lightly rub that spot on his hip and he closed his eyes briefly at the thought, at the memory of something that hadn't been done in a long time. When he opened his eyes again he started toward a spot where he could call the bus.

Markise was glad that Ariel was quiet for now. He was too tired to keep up the bickering that was so much more obvious between them without the constant distraction of sex. If he saw the moment that Ariel had been having, he didn't notice. He was busy trying to find the least miserable balance between thinking and feeling. Right now, neither seemed particularly agreeable. He just reminded himself that he was getting out of using that Portkey.

Ariel remained silent until they got to the area where it was safe to call the Knight Bus and raised his arm. For the first time since meeting up with markise he was looking forward to leaving his presence. He was beginning to concentrate on everything that they had done together and he couldn't help but want to try it again. His mind was suddenly full of the image of Markise wearing his coat and he closed his eyes against it and crossed his arms tightly underneath his cloak.

The crack of the bus appearing was enough to make Markise cringe. He was still able to tell himself it was better than a Portkey though, especially when he saw that the inside was filled with armchairs. He knew he should try to pretend he wasn't impressed, but he couldn't stop looking around. And it was far too nice to sit back. Markise could have purred with relief, but he settled for a sigh.

Ariel paid the doorman and told the driver where they were going, then settled into a chair facing the window, though he knew that it wouldn't be possible to see anything other than a blur. He still was ready to be away from Markise, even though a part of him wanted desperately to stay with him even longer because of the images in his mind. It would be hard to get the memories away again now that he had spent time with Markise.

Markise closed his eyes, hoping to nurse his headache and relax his muscles a bit before the walk up to the school. Now that he was sitting, he could feel how much he ached. He heard the driver announce their next destination, and before he had a chance to even register the name in his mind, The bus jerked to a start, and Markise's eyes flew open.
