Chase took the box and tucked it into his pocket again. He'd surreptitiously watched the way Logan worked the match this time and was sure he could duplicate the motion another time. He tried not to think to hard on what the guy had said. Die on my own terms. He'd been like that once, hadn't he? He wasn't entirely sure anymore. He'd always known that some day he'd give in and do what he was supposed to, but was that his terms, or defeat? He'd just have to find out. Chase didn't say anything this time. He tucked his thumbs into his pockets and looked out over the water, wondering.

It wasn't that Ariel wanted to die, only that he knew he would eventually, so there was no point in worrying about it. Might as well enjoy life and do what he wanted while he still had the chance, right? In the silence, his mind went back to Markise. He wasn't exactly enjoying life, though. Would he enjoy life if he could convince himself to stop and go back to Markise? The sweet smoke rose from his lips and he watched it float in the air.

There was only so much brooding Chase could do with someone else so nearby. The smell of the smoke was distracting, but Chase knew better than to ask for another. There were plenty of more acceptable things to get hooked on than cigarettes. He'd do no good at a political function excusing himself every hour for a smoke. "I'm gonna get going," Chase said at last. He felt like distraction right now. Maybe he'd check the owl post, see if his intended had arrived in bloody England yet. "Nice meeting you, Logan."

Ariel nodded and glanced up at Chase, "You, too." He thought absently about extending a hand, but they had barely come anywhere near friendship. He looked back out over the lake. As he saw it, he had at least an hour left before the chill became unbearable. He would stay out as long as possible, then perhaps go to find the Room of Requirement until curfew and he was forced back into his dorm.
