Michael shook his head, "Even off the battlefield, don't get involved," he said. He wished he had never gotten involved, but it had been impossible. Family as Death Eaters, choices where there was no other option..... he sighed.

"If it came down to it, I'd have to. If I could do something to help and I didn't......." Annabelle trailed off, she'd almost said she didn't know if she could live with the guilt, then remembered how guilty he must be feeling having supported the wrong side. She didn't want to rub salt in his wounds. "But I don't think there's anything I'm capable of helping with, so it's a moot point."

Did it make him a coward to want to be as far away from the war as possible? Michael shook his head and looked down, thinking. The idea made him angry, I'm not a coward, he thought to himself. He glanced up at Annabelle quickly, though he avoided her eyes. A second later he turned and started walking back through the forest, faintly wondering if she would follow him.

Annabelle stood surprised for a moment before calling out to him. "Hey Michael, wait up." She turned and followed after him, trying to catch up without tripping over any of the forest debris. Annabelle wasn’t sure exactly what she’d said that made him leave, but wanted to make up for it all the same. When she came along side him, she started rambling. "If I offended you, I didn't mean to. I was talking about me; your situation is completely different. I mean, at least you've actively declared you're on the order's side right? I haven't done anything at all to show my allegiance."

"I've changed sides, but I'd rather not be in the war at all," Michael said, slowing down slightly. "I want to leave the whole damned thing behind." He stopped and glared down. "I can't deal with it anymore!" he ended on a yell and turned suddenly, punching a tree. The bark bit into his knuckles, but he didn't feel it, didn't show any sign he had felt it. He breathed hard, leaning his forehead against the trunk, his hair around his face. He squeezed his eyes shut, both hands stretched out over the bark. Blood shone on the knuckles of the hand he had punched with.

Annabelle took a step towards him cautiously after the danger seemed to have passed. "You're bleeding; let me clean it up for you." She tentatively touched him on the back of his hand. She made a note to try and avoid talk about the war anywhere in the near future. It only took a millisecond for her to wonder why she was thinking about other conversations with him, someone she’d just ran into.

Michael turned his head towards her, opening his eyes. "You didn't offend me, I'm sorry." He looked at her hand. "I just..." he trailed off, thinking. Ashamed for having yelled, he turned his head from her, refusing to meet her eyes.

Grabbing his hand and guiding toward her, Annabelle took out her wand and cast a cleaning spell on the wound. She transfigured a nearby fallen leaf into a scrap of cloth and patted his hand dry, making sure there weren't any pieces of bark or splinters left. She talked softly as she did so. "You don't have to try to explain yourself to me. I won't pretend I know how you feel or what you're going through. It's an issue you're struggling with. Besides, my mum always said you should never apologize for your feelings; they're the one thing that you own completely."

"But I shouldn't be struggling with it still, it's been months," Michael argued softly, looking back down at her and watching her movements. He should have worked it out, should know what he was going to do. But he felt lost, he wasn't sure of anything anymore. Doubt showed on his face. He was so different from who he had once been, confidant and smooth, now he was worried and unsure.

Who's to say how long it should take? I've known muggles that lived their whole lives with issues they couldn't work through. Not that It'll take that long for you or anything. But I'm sure it doesn't help being constantly reminded of whatever you've gone through." She balled up the cloth and tucked it into her robes before looking up into his eyes. She wished that there was something she could do for him; she doubted her words had much comforting affect.

Michael looked down at his hand, rubbing it slightly and leaning one shoulder against the tree. "If I could just find someway to take my mind off of everything..." he said, it had been so long since he had done anything fun, since he had really let loose. Could he still? Or would his memories and thoughts keep him from life?

Annabelle bit her lower lip in concentration. She had been about to suggest going dancing when she reWizarded Dru would probably be there. She needed something that didn't involve any aspect of his recent past. Suddenly her eyes gleamed with inspiration. "Ever heard of the Muggle game called football?" Annabelle grabbed his hand to lead him out of the forest. She figured an active competition was always good for distractions, and since she was horrible on a broom, a muggle game might be a better fit.
((I'm talking about Soccer, but since Hogwarts isn't in America, I figured I should call it what the rest of the World does....))

Michael suddenly found himself pulled out of the forest by Annabelle, "Football?" he asked, confused. He had been raised that muggles were inferior, that they weren't worth dealing with, so of course he wouldn't know what it was. "Ah....?"

Annabelle stopped when they emerged into the flat clearing on the edge of the forest. "Come on, It'll be fun. We'll just play a little one on one." She glanced up and down the small grassy area, then scanned the woods. "Wingardium Leviosa." She levitated some rocks out of the forest and marked off a goal at each end. Picking a good sized one, she concentrated hard and transfigured it into a passable football. "So you try to get the ball between those rocks, and I try to get it between these ones. No using your hands. Any questions?" She really didn't know much about the game other then the bare basics she'd picked up when her dad was watching a game, but figured that was enough to distract him.

"Right...." he said, staring at her strangely. "So how are you supposed to move the ball?" You can't use your hands, you can't use your wand, it's a muggle game, he looked from her to the ball, cocking his eyebrow.
