Holly cocked her head to the side bringing her chocolate eyes back to his. "Yes, I get mostly outstandings except in defense against the dark arts. No matter how much I learn and read about it, I cannot seem to do the actual spells." Holly grimaced remembering her many failed attempts at using any type of jinx or hex. Her wand would simply not obey.

Mano didn't quite believe that she was getting nearly perfect grades, but he wasn't going to argue with her. "How long have you known of the arrangement?" he asked, raising an eyebrow. He knew he was jumping topics, but he wouldn't be surprised if she said a month, considering she hadn't known his name.

Holly inhaled tucking some of her hair behind her ear. This was like an interrogation! "Not too long. I would say about a month or more..." She had only received the news a few days after she had turned fifteen. Her birthday was late august so she was far behind.

Mano shook his head, "You realize that these things take months of negotiation, this has been going on for nearly a year." He couldn't imagine why the girl wouldn't have heard about it yet, considering everything had been all but finalized. "Why would your father only inform you so close to meeting me?"

Holly frowned searching through her mind for any inkling her father may have given here. "My parents did not say anything to me. Only recently they said anything and lately I have been getting owls from him about it." Was there something else going on beside the wedding? She wondered if Mano knew about the debt... She thought it would be best to say nothing.

No, Mano didn't know about any debt. If he had known, the arrangement would have immediately been called off. What was the point of marrying someone if he and his family received nothing in return? "It is a shame your parents thought it necessary not to let you in on the plans." It didn't make sense, but each family was different when it came to how they dealt with marriages.

"Yes and I am quite disappointed in my father's choice in that matter. I think it is my right to know what will become of me," Holly scowled. Her fifteenth birthday presents were books and the knowledge of her future husbund.

"I certainly hope you are not disappointed in other choices of your father's," Mano said pointedly, eyes darkening. Holly was dangerously close to ruining her chances, and Mano couldn't see her father being very happy with that outcome. He watched her intently as he waited for the answer.

"I am not. I simply think it was my right to know," Holly whispered voice quiet. She could sense anger emanate from him and a tiny bit of fear began to tingle up her back. Was it wrong to want to know about the choices and decisions for your future?

"Are you displeased with his choice of a match for you?" Mano asked, his eyes dark still. His jaw clenched momentarily and he narrowed his eyes slightly. Not that it truly mattered if she liked him or not, she would serve her purpose whether she liked him or not. He would get her to tell him the truth, though, and he could work with whatever the answer was.

Holly raised her head and looked Mano directly into the eyes. "I said no I am not," she said forcefully. Why did he insist on asking her that? She had no choice in the matter anyway.

Mano didn't like her tone of voice and his eyes narrowed once more before he relaxed his expression. "I am sure we will make a profitable match," he said, his voice somewhat flat. Both sides would get enough from the match to make it worth dealing with her. "And make the families proud."

"Yes, I agree," Holly said crossing her legs. She fixed her skirt yanking it around so nothing was revealed. Dressing up really was a pain. "One question if you do not mind. Where did you meet my father? I have heard your family name before, but otherwise not much was mentioned. It was not important to me when I was younger.

"I met him through my own parents," Mano said, inclining his head slightly as his eyes dropped momentarily to her skirt. "They suggested it and they agreed to try it before I ever met the man. I have visited him a few times to fix details." He just knew that his family and hers had known each other for quite some time.

"Oh, I see." Holly remained silent for a few moments disturbed by the tension in the room. It was becoming suffocating. Her skirt was beginning to annoy her and she wanted to change into a comfy pair of jeans. How long would this confrontation go on?
