Silver regretted having waited to put his cloak on the moment he was outside. Compared to the freezing cold air, the disturbing tension inside didn't feel so horrible anymore. Of course, it was difficult to think of the tension inside when the cold was seeping into his bones. Silver moved to pull on the cloak he'd bought himself and dropped everything else in the process. He swore lightly under his breath as he bent to retrieve it all.

Dru walked out the door while she was straightening her gloves and shook her head when she saw Silver bending over. "Put your cloak on, I'll get it," she said, bending to help him pick up the things. She knew how cold it was and Silver had to have been freezing without having his cloak on, and fumbling around for dropped items wouldn't help him get it on any faster.

Silver would have liked to hold onto some pride by arguing, but his fingers were already getting to that numb state before his joints locked completely. He pulled his cloak over his shoulders and managed to tie it, then extended his hand to take his gloves, murmuring a heartfelt thank you. With the insanity they'd just walked out of, he felt strikingly comfortable with Dru.

Dru stood with the scarf, hat, and gloves in her hands and handed over the gloves. She opened her mouth to speak, but was unable to think of anything but what they had walked in on. She had never been around a gay couple before. There wasn't anything she could think of that was wrong with the relationship, but that didn't take away the strangeness of it, especially when one of the guys was her ex.

Silver tugged on his gloves, thankfully able to concentrate on trying not to freeze to death rather than catching his brother... When he'd finished, it was another thing entirely. Silver hunched his shoulders against the cold that he felt even through his cloak and looked back over his shoulder at the door. Then he shook his head, unsure what he could say without sounding unsupportive. It wasn't something he'd talked about with anyone, though. Not unless you counted the one letter he'd written dad and the one he'd gotten back. Silver dragged his eyes away from the door and the possibility of what might be happening behind it to look at Dru. He inclined his head lightly toward the street. He wouldn't even begin to know how to speak after that.

Dru huddled into her own cloak and purposefully avoided looking at the door. "I doubt that was how they wanted their party to turn out," she said softly, then shook her head and looked ahead of them as she began to walk. The sooner they could get to the castle and away from the image of Dare and Michael, the better.

Silver let out a heavy breath at that. No, he couldn't imagine his brother purposefully inviting people over just to be miserable, but from what he was trying to pretend he hadn't seen, they'd moved on pretty fast. Silver would have loved to tell himself that they just hadn't known he and Dru were still there, but both their cloaks had been on the living room floor in plain sight. Silver stuffed his hands as deep into his pockets as he could manage, then set himself to watching the visible puffs of his breath, still distracting after the weeks of unbelievable cold.

Dru looked away and shook her head, thinking that something good had come from the party, at least. She had gotten Silver back in some form. It was going to be a long trip back to the school, and it would be even longer if they didn't talk. But Dru couldn't think of anything to talk about. The only thing that could make itself known in her mind was seeing Dare and Michael like that.
