Markise had been here for a while already. His book bag lay on the floor beside the large professors' desk, and he sat on top of it, crossed ankles swinging lightly. He was more than a bit nervous, and for good reason. Ariel hadn't had the best reaction when Markise had suggested dressing up.
But when did Ariel have a good reaction? Markise mused. His lips curved. He knew exactly when, and if that's what it took to get Ariel to see what a good idea this was, then that's what he'd do.
Markise's clothes--his regular clothes, anyway--were folded neatly in his bag. He was wearing ones he'd switched into here. He wore a top that skimmed his body, flaring out slightly at his waist with a scooped and folded neckline that gave the appearance of just enough of things he didn't have that he could have been a slender a-cup rather than a boy. And the skirt. It flared out as well, another trick of the eye that worked because of the fall of the fabric. It hung down just to his knees, leaving his bare calves visible and disguising the more obvious signs of his body. Not that he'd thought about this. Much.
His hair still hung at the sides of his face, but it was styled differently today, a piece at one side pinned back with a simple barrette. And of course the makeup. He'd had too much fun with that, considering how long it had been since he'd worn any. But today, eyeliner, mascara, blush and eyeshadow, and his shiniest lip gloss. He prayed Ariel didn't walk away because of this.

Ariel came in the door, expecting to see Markise like they had planned, but instead he saw what was most definitely a girl sitting on the desk in Markise's usual spot. He almost backed out again, had one hand on the door handle, only realizing as he opened his mouth to say something that it wasn't a girl sitting there with ankles crossed like that. "What the hell are you wearing?" he demanded.

Markise's lips pressed tight a moment, and his gaze dropped. He told himself he'd expected this, that of course Ariel wouldn't like it right away. The man was gay, not bi. Markise's tongue swept lightly over his lips as he brought his eyes back up, inclining his head in a look of mock innocence. "Proving a point," he said softly. His voice was by no means a falsetto, but it was purposefully softer, and naturally husky from the change.
Markise slid off the desk onto the floor, then did a twirl, as though Ariel wasn't radiating disapproval from every pore of his body. "We could be seen like this," he said. He knew that Ariel wasn't itching to get out, but Markise was. It would give him an outlet so he wouldn't be so desperate to make the mistake he'd made at SWIM.
Markise faced Ariel again, and reached for his shirt, tugging it up to show that he wore nothing underneath. No body shaper, no bra. He counted on his youth, his features, and the obvious style of the clothes to carry him. "All the same here, too," Markise added, dropping his shirt to flash Ariel with what the skirt was hiding.

Ariel wrinkled his nose slightly. It was so wrong to see that body in those clothes. And when had he ever expressed any kind of interest in being seen with Markise, whether he was dressed like that or not? Not to mention that voice...it grated on Ariel's nerves, like he could stand hearing it for any length of time. He didn't speak, but crossed his arms and stared at Markise, knowing that his disapproval was obvious.

Markise pouted, then resumed his usual voice, his brows lowering. "It's going to drive me crazy being all cooped up," he said, entirely serious. "I came out at SWIM because I couldn't handle hiding everything like that anymore. I can be in the closet, that's fine, but I need something or I'm gonna go insane!" Markise reached for his barrette with both hands, struggling a moment as he tried to work it loose. He hadn't done this much before, and never in public, but he'd wanted to try. Markise turned half away from Ariel as his allergies threatened to kick in.

"Did you stop to think how on earth you could pull something like that off?" Ariel asked, raising an eyebrow. "And I don't mean passing for a girl," he said, wrinkling his nose again. "Do you really think no one would notice me being out with a girl that no one's ever seen before?" People would start to ask questions, and what could they say in response?

Markise's pout deepened into a frown at that logic. No, he hadn't thought of that. He'd been hoping the school was big enough that no one would notice. "I thought we could at least go to the club together, or meet there. Everybody can't know everybody, can they? And yes, I know you don't even want to go, you don't have to remind me!" Markise pulled the barrette free and turned to his bag in frustration, dragging it up onto the desk. He dragged his regular clothes out with a harsh motion of his hand and stuffed the barrette deep into the bottom of the bag.

Ariel felt a tug in his conscience as he watched Markise, but tried his best to ignore it by making himself focus on what all could happen. He didn't want to deal with the whispers, didn't want to have to come up with some story to explain the flat blonde girl he had been with in Hogsmeade. "If you want to go to the club, feel free," Ariel said, telling himself that he wouldn't mind, considering Markise wouldn't dance with anyone.

"Fine, I will," Markise snapped. He reached for the hem of the shirt he was wearing and pulled it unceremoniously off over his head, then shoved it into the bag after the barrette. He made sure to face away from Ariel, not wanting to see him right now. Ariel didn't give a jarvey's ass about anything anyway, if it didn't involve getting physical.
Markise kicked off his shoes next, then shimmied out of the skirt, both finding their way ruthlessly into the bottom of his bag before he turned to dressing again. "Dare will dance with me," he said spitefully, under his breath. He knew Dare would take a couple songs off to keep him company on the dance floor, but even if he didn't, that didn't matter. Markise could dance all by himself if he felt like it. He pulled up his zipper with a sharp sound.

Ariel's eyes narrowed and he opened his lips, not even attempting to think before he spoke. "Dare won't dance with you, he has a boyfriend, remember?" he pointed out. "Why would he risk his own relationship?" It was low, even he would admit that, but he had every right to say it, Markise had been the one to bring it up. He told himself not to get distracted by the sight of Markise's bare back.

"I didn't say he'd do the friggin zouk lambada with me, Ariel, I said he'd dance with me, and what do you care anyway?" Markise tugged his shirt down, not bothering to straighten it before digging into his bag again for some makeup remover. He couldn't go out like this. "Why am I even talking to him?" he wondered aloud. Markise wiped the back of one hand against his eyes, silently cursing the inconvenient timing of his allergies, then resumed his search.

"Because Dare has a boyfriend," Ariel pointed out again. Markise's choices were rather limited. "Why does it bother you anyway, we're just two straight guys meeting up for incredible sex, right?" It was what Markise had called it on Ariel's birthday. Maybe Ariel was fishing for Markise's side of things, in his own mind that's all they were, but it certainly seemed like more for Markise, or else why would he even care?

"Ha ha," Markise said dryly, then left Ariel's final comment alone. It was more than that for him, and he'd hoped Ariel knew it, but he had a feeling it didn't mean any more to Ariel than exactly that. "Dare having a boyfriend isn't going to stop him from being my friend," he argued. "We've been friends for five years, and he loves to dance as much as I do. He'd dance with me, so there." Markise pulled out a small package of makeup removing wipes and pulled one out, still facing away from Ariel as he closed the package again and stuffed it back into his bag.

"Really, and what when his boyfriend shows up? Hm?" Ariel asked, purposefully baiting. "Would he see it as innocent dancing between friends?" He just knew he didn't like the thought of the two of them dancing, and wondered how in the world he could convince Markise that it was a bad idea. He glanced back at the door, wondering if there was even any point in staying if Markise was just going to be on about dancing.

"What do you care what I do and who with, as long as you're getting *~ ?" Markise asked rhetorically. He didn't bother answering the question at all. Ariel didn't understand him and Dare, and he didn't want to go out with Markise, so it didn't matter. Markise would just go out himself, he'd dance with Dare and anyone else who wanted to dance with him, and he'd have fun, dammit! Markise rubbed the makeup remover roughly against his cheeks.
