"A couple," Dare said, joking lightly. "There's no rule against not dancing." Yes, Dare could see right through Markise, and he felt like he ought to save him, since he saw where all this was going. "Groups come in all the time just to hang out, and around here there's a lot of people who'll come just to sit and watch." Dare brought his gaze back to Logan with that. In other words, take him the hell out to the club. No one will know. Dare would have liked to say as much, but Markise had sworn him to secrecy about Logan, and he'd keep the secret, even if it was almost painfully obvious to him.

Ariel really couldn't see himself in a club, he had never been to one, and never intended to go to one. What would be the point? There was no way in hell he would dance with anyone, much less Markise, and he wouldn't go to a club just to stand there watching, that kind of defeated the purpose, didn't it? "Why would I go to a club to sit and watch? Even if I am a watcher, there's much more pleasant things I could be doing."

Markise looked back at Ariel incredulously. "Hello, the music!" he said, then gave Ariel a playful swat on the arm. "Maybe it gets your girlfriend hot," he suggested, as though he knew for a fact that Ariel had a girlfriend. "I know you have a sense of rhythm." Markise heard himself then, and his eyes widened a moment before he backtracked. "I mean, you have to to be such a good swimmer." He cut himself off and turned back to making bubbles.

Dare closed his eyes for one brief moment, repressing a sigh. Markise had never fumbled like this at SWIM. He had to be really into Logan, and Dare didn't let himself think too far on that line. He took a breath, then turned his attention back to Logan. "I've got a friend..." Dare stopped himself. How long was he going to keep referring to Michael that way? It was a reflex now, from before they were out, but wasn't it basic knowledge now? But then again, was it anyone's business if it was Michael? No, Dare decided, and continued after only a heartbeat's pause. "I've got a friend who came down just to give it a try and ended up being glad he did, so you never know."

I know you have a good sense of rhythm. If that didn't send Ariel's mind reeling, nothing would. But still, his eyes flashed as he realized that Markise had said it in front of Dare. He stared at Markise for a moment before turning his eyes back to Dare, "Music has never really been my thing." He liked the strange quiet that came from being underwater. "Maybe I just wasn't meant to go clubbing."

Markise pouted, despite his best intentions to pretend he didn't care. Fine, he thought, then smoothed disappointment from his face and lifted his chin. "I'll just go by myself then," he decided. He didn't want Ariel coming anyway, if he was just going to be a wet blanket the whole time. Or at least, that's what Markise told himself. He'd go and he'd dance by himself, and maybe hang out in the DJ booth with Dare. It'd be fun.

Dare nearly rolled his eyes. The conversation had quickly devolved into something Dare didn't even want to know about. He knew far too much already. Anyway, it looked like Markise could hold his own, albeit in a rather twisted way, so Dare started plotting his escape. He put it into effect immediately. "I've got to get going," he said, and pushed to his feet, picking up his book bag. "It was nice talking to you again Logan. See you around, Markise." Dare wanted out of here, so he wasted no further time.

Ariel didn't like how Markise said that, as though it was expected of him to go with Markise to the club. He definitely didn't remember ever thinking anything like that, he wasn't aware of any responsibilities outside of that empty classroom. "I'll see you, sometime," he said dismissively, glad for Dare to be leaving. Ariel was still amazed at how aggravated he had been to see the two of them together.

Markise didn't say a word past telling Dare goodbye. When he'd left, Markise just turned his attention to blowing a slow bubble, as though he was perfectly content and nothing had happened. Yes, he'd picked up on Ariel's annoyance, but he couldn't see any valid reason for it, so he didn't really care. Especially if Ariel wouldn't even go out with him. It wasn't like he expected them to dirty dance in the middle of the dance floor, just get out and do something other than...well, each other.

Ariel watched Markise silently for a few seconds, his eyes narrowed slightly. "How good of friends are you two, exactly?" he asked, his voice as straight as his face. He really hadn't liked seeing the two of them like that, and hadn't liked how Markise had been acting just as much. What if Dare knew? What if....what if Markise had told him?

Markise took his time finishing off the bubble he'd just blown before replying. "We've been best friends since second year." He inspected his nails for a moment, then reached up to twirl idly at his hair again. "And we dated for a couple months in the spring." He glanced at Ariel then. "Oh wait, you said exactly. Well, he's an amazing kisser. Not as aggressive as some, but...does that answer your question, or was there something else?" Markise blew another taunting bubble.

Ariel wasn't jealous, not exactly, but he was rather angry at the idea of Markise kissing someone else. I'm all yours. How could he be all Ariel's if he was by the lake with Dare? What really annoyed him was that he could imagine the two together, it was so easy to imagine Markise's hands moving up into that multi-colored hair. He blinked and looked away from Markise, then pushed himself to stand and start working at his belt, his hands moving slightly rougher than strictly necessary.

Markise watched Ariel with a measure of satisfaction at knowing he'd gotten a reaction from Mr. Made-of-Stone Ariel. "You don't have to get pissy about it," Markise said at last. "We're not dating now, he's got a serious boyfriend anyway." Yes, it was fun unsettling Ariel a little, but Markise didn't want the man to just give up and walk away. Or swim away, as the case may be. Markise let himself watch Ariel's hands; there was no one around, so why not? As a matter of fact... Markise pushed to his feet as well and pushed off his shoes, then reached for his own waistband.

Ariel stared determinedly down at his hands as he worked his ragged belt free, soon followed by a button and zipper and leading to his pants folded neatly on top of his worn shoes and socks. Still, his eyes moved over to Markise, to those hands and- He pulled his eyes back, they were at the lake, people could easily walk up on them, just like he had found Markise and Dare. "What would his boyfriend have said to walking up on him with his arm around you?" he asked, raising an eyebrow and flicking a glance to Markise.

Markise rolled his eyes as he shuffled out of his pants and started folding them. "I don't really care what his boyfriend would have said." Well, maybe he did care, at least a little, but that was none of Ariel's business, especially if he wasn't going to admit it bothered him. "I'm sure they're secure enough in their amazing relationship that it wouldn't matter. Me and Dare have always been like that, we're just friends now." If Dare came crying to him about Michael leaving, Markise would sure as hell pick up the pieces, but that was beside the point.
