Ariel raised his eyebrows at that, even people that didn't swim at least knew how to. "How can you not know how to swim?" he asked, looking over at her in surprise. He couldn't imagine not swimming, it just seemed like a basic part of life. "It's not that hard." He barely remembered learning, so it couldn't be that hard.

Adara bit her lip again, and dropped her gaze to the stones just in front of her feet. "I was never taught. It is not a ladylike pursuit," she said, repeating the words that she had been told when she had expressed an interest. Ladies did not flounder in the water, half undressed. Ladies did not overexert themselves, did not laugh loudly or draw attention.

Ariel snorted at that and looked off in front of them. "Who says what's ladylike and what's not?" he asked, though he didn't wait for an answer. "If it's something you want to do, then what's stopping you? All the girls I've ever known could swim." All of the gender biased ideas that Ariel heard, whether mentioned in passing or in serious conversation made him want to just hit someone, it was so idiotic to try and control what was ladylike and what was manly.

Adara looked aside at Logan now, her eyes widening slightly at his reaction. Thinking about it though, hadn't she been told similar things by others since she had come to Hogwarts? Dru had said it of her writing, and Emilian had said it of sex. Of course, Emilian had been trying to get her to give in to him at the time. "I suppose I might like to," Adara said, phrasing the words tentatively, testing the metaphorical waters. "I wouldn't know where to begin, though."

Ariel paused, he didn't have experience teaching someone to swim, it seemed like, somehow, everyone had been able to when they had gotten to school. It was like there had been a huge communal swimming lesson before their conscious memories. "Find someone willing to teach you and head out to the lake," he said, shrugging lightly, deciding that he wouldn't offer unless she asked.

Adara wouldn't ask. Logan's reply was a subtle but obvious rejection, that much was clear to her. "Perhaps I will," she said noncommittally. She wouldn't know who to ask, so she supposed she ought to simply resign herself and find something else to do with her time. "Is there anything else you do with your time?" Adara asked. Perhaps there would be something easier, something more instinctual. Adara took a slow breath, shifting her thoughts yet again from that particular subject.

Logan hung his head a little at that question as Markise popped into his mind, instantly making his blood rush. "Not really, swimming is kind of my thing." He hadn't really needed to do anything else, not when the pool had always been open. "I need to find something else, though..." he mused. It was soon going to be much too cold to go swimming in the lake and, as far as he knew, there weren't any other places he could go.

Adara had no constructive ideas. She had spent the better part of last winter here, but at the time, it had not occurred to her that there was anything else to do than what she had always done at Schneewittchenn--work on her studies. "I do wish I knew more of such things," Adara mused. Unfortunately, she did not think that the library would be able to tell her what hobbies were most popular among the students at Hogwarts.

"Get a boyfriend," Ariel suggested, realizing as he did so that he had one. That was a strange thought. But did he even consider Markise a boyfriend? Maybe he was just someone he could hang out with, a friend with benefits. Maybe not even a friend, Ariel didn't think he knew Markise well enough to call him friend, however close they may have been. But Ariel didn't have much to compare it to, he hadn't exactly had an abundance of friends, or even friendly acquaintances at his old school.

Adara's eyes widened slightly at that. She bit her lip a moment before saying softly, "I do not think Emilian would approve of that." She knew that Emilian would not approve, and to be honest, she had no desire for a boyfriend. What she desired was a long weekend in Emilian's bed. With Emilian.

"Emilian?" Ariel asked, raising an eyebrow and looking over at Adara. Who was Emilian? If he was a brother, then what did it matter. And if he were more, then why didn't she spend more time with him instead of trying to find ways to spend her free time? He shook his head, it wasn't really any of his business who the guy was, but it was conversation.

Adara looked aside at Logan, heat stealing into her cheeks. Then she looked back down the corridor. "Emilian is..." Teacher, lover, friend, guide, freedom... "In Germany," she finished. "He will be gone for some time, and...the wait is difficult." The wait was misery. Adara bit her lip a moment, but she couldn't think or another way to describe her relationship with Emilian in polite company, especially with someone she had only met.

Ariel raised his eyebrow again at what Adara said; whoever Emilian was, he apparently meant a lot to her. He was interested in who he was, in why he was away and why she was waiting on him, but didn't think it appropriate to ask, so he tried to search for something else to say. He soon realized that it was useless to even try and so settled into silence.

Adara would have far preferred the stilted conversation, but Logan's silence spoke volumes. He obviously didn't want to talk. Adara wondered if she had said something wrong, but going over her words, she could see nothing improper, nothing out of place. Logan didn't seem to know of Emilian, so that couldn't be it. Adara resigned herself to the quiet and simply led the way, pausing across from the library. "You can also get to the library from the path with the painting of the silent knight off the Entrance hall," she said, turning back to him. "I wish you the best of luck, Logan," she said softly.

Ariel nodded, "Thank you." He looked over at the library and shifted the bag at his back, then looked back down at Adara. "Go jump in the lake sometime before it gets too cold, you might like it." And she might be a natural swimmer, who knew, it was possible, most beings were born with the ability to swim, or at least the ability to stay afloat.
