Markise's heart dropped when Ariel turned away. His brows creased, and his lips parted as he watched Ariel stand and head down the stairs. Markise sat for all of half a minute before he stood, carefully avoiding the trick step, and heading quickly down the stairs. "Is that all you have to say?" he asked, the words nearly demanding. "After..." He gestured behind him. "After that!" He wouldn't say it, not when somebody might hear, out of respect for Ariel's wishes and his own desire not to come out just yet.

Ariel stopped and balled his hands into fists, turning to look at Markise. "I don't know about you, but that was just a little too close for comfort." Someone had nearly walked in on them, there was no explaining away being caught in a corridor kissing a guy, he'd wake up with streamers all over his bed. But it had felt so good. It had been amazing, he couldn't deny that, couldn't deny that maybe, just maybe, he wanted more. But no, it had been much too close.

Markise opened his arms, gesturing as he retorted, "Fine, I know it was close, but did you have to just run off?" Markise's lips pressed tight for a moment, his pale eyes asking for something other than outright rejection. "Do you know what it feels like to be walked out on like that?" It had been an incredible, mind-blowing kiss, and the moment Ariel had recovered enough to do so, he'd left. Again.

Ariel crossed his arms and glared off to the side in the direction of the stairs. He had been walked out on, not after an amazing kiss like that, but still, it had ended badly enough without the sex having been good. He couldn't, didn't want to, imagine how it felt to be walked out on after that. He remained silent, chewing on his cheek and refusing to look down at Markise.

Markise's lips pressed tight again, and he told himself firmly not to get emotional. Just because Ariel was refusing to acknowledge anything he'd said, refusing to respond aside from brooding again. "You know, the strong, silent type is only sexy for so long," Markise bit out. At the moment, he didn't care if that ticked Ariel off, at least he'd get a reaction.

"Good!" Ariel said, looking down at Markise and balling his hands at his sides, his arms still tightly crossed. "Maybe that means I won't have to deal with you much longer!" He didn't care if that hurt Markise, the less he saw Markise, the less stress he would have in his life, and the less chance that someone would walk in on Ariel kissing a guy.

Markise's lips parted, and tears sprang to his eyes, though he fought them back. He stood seething for a moment, struggling not to let himself break, then pulled a quick breath. "Fine," he spat, "go... tell yourself you're happy. Go get a girlfriend and spend the rest of your life hiding from yourself. I'm not into pussies anyway." Markise turned on his heel and stormed off down the corridor, one hand rising to wipe the moisture from his eyes. He wasn't crying. He had allergies.

Ariel stood for a moment, indignant at being called that, and then turned and stormed off in the other direction, heading up the stairs. When he was halfway up he was far enough away to replay what Markise had said in his mind, and he saw the look in his eyes. He mentally cursed and an almost inaudible groan escaped his throat as he turned and hopped down the stairs to head back towards Markise.

Markise wasn't listening for footsteps. He was going, trying to escape his thoughts. He didn't even know where he was going, just that the corridor was smaller now, and again, he had no idea where he was. Markise turned sharply and hit the wall. "Ow!" he exclaimed, pulling his hand against his chest. Maybe that hadn't been a good idea. Markise brought his hand up and kissed his torn knuckles, silently cursing himself now, along with Ariel.

Ariel pulled himself to a sudden stop by Markise, sighing, he had tried to get there in time to stop him from hitting that wall. He reached for his wand and held out his hand, beckoning for Markise to let him see his injured knuckles. "Do you have any idea what my brother did when he found me in my room looking at pictures of guys?" he asked, refusing to meet Markise's eyes. It was the only thing he was going to tell, so Markise had better listen if he wanted to know anything.

Markise glared aside at Ariel a moment, wanting to refuse to give him his hand on principle, but it hurt, and Ariel had fixed him so good before. Markise stuck his hand out, bracing himself for the feel of Ariel's touch, then shook his head, still pouting. "No clue," he said dryly. He didn't know if he really cared at this point, he was still so mad at Ariel, but he'd listen, if only because he owed him for what he was about to do. You better not zap me, he thought.

Ariel took Markise's hand, perhaps a little more roughly than he should have, and drew his wand lightly along the knuckles. It was a little spell he had learned years before, useful when most of his time was spent outside on rough ground where it was so easy to get scrapes and cuts. It would fix the outer cuts, but if anything was wrong on the inside, he would have to do something different.
"He zapped my hand with that f~ing spell I taught you," he said, lightly tapping Markise's knuckles. "And grounded me for a month. Then, whenever I'd been home more than a week, he would go through my room and make sure I wasn't hiding anything." Ariel had the feeling his brother did it even when he wasn't there, purely out of paranoia, but he wasn't sure.

Markise felt properly chastised then. He slipped his hand free of Ariel's and pulled it back up near his chest to look at. "Thank you," he said softly, "and I'm sorry you had to go through that." Markise was pretty sure his parents already suspected. They'd paused to look at one another, but past that one moment of brief surprise, they'd supported him. Markise looked back up at Ariel again. "I'm sorry I called you a p~y," he said. He'd been hurt and lashing out, probably a lot like Ariel.

Ariel shrugged as though it hadn't bothered him, which was an obvious lie. It had bothered him quite a bit, but he had been called worse, so he didn't hold it against Markise. He reached up and brushed some of that fine hair of Markise's back, "It doesn't matter." It really didn't, not in the long run, it had been moved past and, in his own way, forgiven.

Markise's eyes closed at the feel of Ariel's hand so light against him. I really am sorry, he wanted to say. He kept his mouth shut, though. Ariel said it didn't matter, and though Markise felt like there was something else, he wanted to take Ariel at his word. He looked up into Ariel's eyes for a long moment, wondering at that brief touch, then dropped his gaze, looking off onto the floor somewhere. He didn't know what to say now. For the moment, Markise was at a total loss for words.
