Emilian tilted his head and raised an eyebrow, "What do you consider affordable?" He walked over to the display case that held the watches. It wasn't the largest case in the room, there wasn't much to choose from, but there was enough. He was mentally fighting with himself, the urge to knock down prices arguing with the need to get the full worth of the only sale he had had in months, and would have in months.

Dare set his sketchbook on the counter and reached for his bag, tossing back the flap and digging through it for his money pouch. When he brought it out, he looked at it a moment before closing his long-fingered hand around it. "I have my semester's savings," he said. "If I get a job this week, then I'll get paid in like two, so..." Dare tried to do some quick mental calculations about how much he'd need versus how much he could spend, but math wasn't his strong suit, so he let it go and guessed. Dare threw out a modest number.

Emilian sighed and looked down at the watches, telling himself that he didn't care about taking Dare's available money as he opened the case and pulled out a square display with a few watches attached. "You could get any of these and still, if you wanted, start paying on the rings." It would be a small payment, and maybe he had messed with the prices a little bit, but Dare was getting what he wanted.

" Awesome," Dare said, his mossy eyes glittering as he looked down at the display. He'd been hoarding his money, trying to make sure it lasted all semester, but if he was getting a job, it just made sense to go ahead and get something he'd really like. Dare looked briefly over the watches, then pointed to the one that his eyes kept coming back to. "That one," Dare said, pointing to the second from the right. Not that he thought he'd ever need a metal face plate, but it was a cool touch. "How much is it?" Dare asked.

Emilian took it out and quoted a price that was lower than it should have been, though hopefully not enough for Dare to notice. Then he put the others back in their place and locked the case again. He glanced up at Dare as he handed him the watch. "You want anything else?" he asked, leaning back against the display. He knew Dare had said something about a lip ring, but didn't think he'd want it just yet.

Dare took the watch, strapping it around his right wrist, then shook his head as he started counting out galleons. He gave up pretty quickly though, and poured the lot onto the counter. He scooped up one galleon and a few loose sickles and put them back into the bag, drawing the top closed, and tucked it back into his book bag. "Whatever's left can go to the rings," Dare said, looking back up at Emilian. "I can't get the lip ring for another month anyway." Then he'd be legal and it wouldn't matter what his dad said.

Emilian looked down at the money on the counter and started picking them up to put in the register a few steps away. "You'll have to wait until whenever I come back to get it," he said. There was no way he was going to let Dare get it out himself, even if he knew Dare wouldn't take anything. "So are you ready to go back upstairs?" he asked, staring at the register as it calculated how much went to the rings.

Dare felt a pang of insecurity--or maybe it was loss--as nearly his entire allowance disappeared into the register. He reminded himself he was getting a job, he'd have more, but still, he'd never spent this much money in one place before. He had to take a deep breath before lifting his gaze to Emilian and answering the question. "I'm ready," he said. Dare felt like there was something else he should say, but couldn't think of anything, so he let it go. He needed to focus on getting a job, remind himself that there wasn't any getting out of it. He didn't want out of it. He could do this. Within minutes, Dare and Emilian had headed back upstairs. magikal05.proboards46.com/index.cgi?board=jlounge&action=display&thread=3690&page=5#74987
