This time, Dare shifted on his feet, needing the release of tension. "Just...saw something we liked..." he said. "I don't need it now or anything, I just thought...maybe get it reserved?" Dare had no desire to look up at Emilian now. He kept his gaze on the floor near Emilian's feet though, just in case he suddenly moved. "I know which lip ring I want," he offered, knowing that wouldn't change the subject, but needing to try.

Emilian narrowed his eyes slightly and watched Dare, unsure what he wanted to do. No, he knew, he wanted to tell Dare no way and that he'd only sell him the watch and lip ring, even if he wasn't even completely sure what he wanted with the rings. "All that will cost you quite a bit," he said, his tone warning, as though perhaps it would make Dare decide not to get them.

Dare nodded. "I know. I'm going to look for a job in Hogsmeade and save up. I need the watch now, I've got some money on me, but the others can wait. I just...like I said, I want to get them reserved. Do you do that?" Dare flicked his gaze back up at Emilian through his fringe, but only saw that Emilian was both suspicious and, at the least, annoyed with Dare. He lowered his gaze again. He was painfully close to blurting something out, but was afraid of setting Emilian off.

"Not usually," Emilian said flatly, narrowing his eyes slightly. He hadn't done it before, but he would do it for Dare and Michael. But he decided not to tell it immediately, but waited a few seconds, watching Dare before sighing heavily. "I'll let you do it, though, I figure I don't have to worry about you running off without paying me."

Dare hadn't realized he was holding his breath until Emilian had said yes. Then he exhaled in a rush. He was glad that he was going to have to wait, to pay things off as he went, because actually acting was nerve-wracking, especially when faced with Emilian. He might have just mail-ordered after all if Michael hadn't found what he wanted right here. What were the chances that Dare would ever find it again?
"Thank you," Dare said, relieved. He lifted his gaze to Emilian's again, forcibly ignoring the continued suspicion in his gaze. "I'll start making payments when I get my first paycheck," he promised, determined to find a job fast. It was bad enough knowing Emilian was watching him with Michael, without having Emilian watch him as a customer, too. He refused to give Emilian any legitimate reason to kick his ass.

Emilian nodded and held Dare's gaze for a few seconds before breaking his stance and letting his arms swing down to his pockets. "So what are you wanting?" he asked, raising an eyebrow and flicking a glance towards the men's rings. He still wasn't sure about the whole thing, though he was fairly certain he would say something more about it before they headed back upstairs.

Dare followed Emilian's gaze, mentally girding himself for what was most likely coming. Then he took a deep, bracing breath and crossed the shop to stand in front of the display. "This one with the leaves," he said, pointing through the glass at the ring that Michael had liked. "And the one next to it," he added, pointing to its match. He felt painfully obvious, but he'd said he intended to wait, right? That had to count for something.

Emilian followed Dare and examined the rings he pointed to, sighing as he pulled out his wand. He glanced over at Dare and then opened the case, pulling them out and closing them in his fist. Then he closed the case again and and turned to Dare, leaning back against the case. "Now, if you want me to put these," he said, opening his hand flat and showing Dare the two rings. "In that little safe back there," he closed his hand and gestured behind the main counter.
"You'll promise you're not even thinking the word marriage." He knew they could find someone to do it, though it would be a little harder than a traditional marriage, either way he didn't agree with that idea. One eyebrow raised as he met Dare's eyes, almost daring him to say he was thinking the word.

Dare blinked as he looked up into Emilian's cold blue eyes. "No, I...I wasn't, I mean, some day, but..." Dare made a face. "I'm not even legal. I just..." He took a deep breath and looked back down to Emilian's closed fist, regrouping himself to find the words. Then his gaze rose to Emilian's again, his nerves clearing. "They're just a promise," he said. "Just...some day." Dare couldn't see a day when he wouldn't love Michael just as much as he did now. He couldn't imagine things fading or disappearing. He wasn't ready for marriage, but a promise...that he could do. That's what he wanted.

Emilian watched Dare long enough to be certain he wasn't trying to trick him, then nodded and walked over behind the counter. "It wouldn't be the strangest thing I've ever seen," he said, glancing over his shoulder. "This seventh year Hufflepuff proposed to a fifth year Gryffindor earlier this year," he said, perhaps as an explanation for why he believed that could be the route Dare wanted to take with the rings.

"A fifth year," Dare asked, repressed tension leaving him in a rush with Emilian's acceptance and the change of subject. He let himself watch Emilian, mentally crossed off one of many things he needed to get done, then asked, "Did they seriously get married? Her parents didn't sign off on that, did they?" Dare wouldn't even suggest to his dad the idea of getting married before his seventeenth. Actually, he wouldn't suggest the idea of getting married before thirty, but that was what elopement was for, wasn't it?

"That guy has a reputation, Ryan. He was dating Savannah," Emilian said as he opened the safe, shaking his head. "And they broke up, then he was dating three girls at once, though he'll tell you that's a lie," he added, glancing up as he reached under the counter for two small boxes. "And ended up with Gabby. Then, after they got engaged, he started seeing Savannah again and broke it off with Gabby, who he ended up cheating on Savannah with." It was confusing, but it at least showed a little bit of why he was wary about Dare getting rings. He failed to mention the main reason, supposedly, that Ryan and Savannah had broken up in the first place.

"Damn," Dare said under his breath. He shook his head, catching himself just before he would have wondered out loud how someone could do that; Emilian was one of the many who'd enjoyed many, wasn't he? As far as Dare knew, he hadn't proposed to any of them, though. Not even Adara, who was most definitely not wearing a ring. "Well, I'm not going to cheat on Michael," Dare said. "I've never cheated with anyone else, and I've never even..." Dare closed his mouth, swallowing down the phrase been in love before. His gaze dropped down to the display, now two rings short. He shook his head again, starting over. "I'm not like that," he said simply.

Emilian debated, then decided against telling Dare that it was harder not to cheat than he'd think. Though he really couldn't see Dare doing it anyway, even if he didn't know him very well. He put the rings in their boxes and pushed them deep into the back of the safe. "So how much of this am I not allowed to tell Michael about?" he asked, glancing up as he shut the safe securely.

Dare blinked, his gaze jumping up to Emilian's. "The rings," he answered. Nothing whatsoever to do with the rings. "He knows about the lip ring, and I'll be getting a watch now. Unless you'd rather I just go." In which case he'd mail-order something from the back pages of the Daily Prophet. That was a miserable thought, though. Dare shook it off. "Do you have anything...affordable?" Dare asked hopefully. He still didn't have a clue how much the rings cost, but he told himself he wasn't in a hurry, so it didn't matter, did it? As long as he got a job soon so he could start paying them off.
