Michael spared a second for a glare, then glanced over at Dare, he knew what Emilian was implying. It also sent his mind down a dangerous path, one of mixed excitement and apprehension as he remembered their time in the Room of Requirement. It brought back the memories of how good everything had felt and, then, how he had been unsure afterward. "Thank you for your hospitality," he said, rolling his eyes and settling back in the chair.

Dare's gaze had jumped up to Emilian at his offer, but now he arched an eyebrow again. It was Michael's reaction that told Dare he hadn't imagined Emilian's undertone. "The Room of Requirement's been doing well enough," he found himself saying dryly, "but thanks anyway." Dare's eyes gave him away; they were laughing. He wouldn't give Emilian the reaction he obviously looked for in Michael. He'd give as well as he got, and he'd let himself enjoy doing it.

Emilian's hand moved over Adara's side, "It's so much more private here, though. People have a tendency to walk in on you when you're in the Room of Requirement." He glanced at Michael then down at Adara, smiling as the time they had been walked in on ran through his mind. It had been a good day, until Michael had walked in on them. He had easily forgotten, for at least a little while, that he would be leaving, by focusing on other things.

Adara's eyes widened as they leaped to Emilian's; there was no missing that reference. She blushed deeply, but her lips curved almost imperceptibly in soft echo of Emilian's smile. With that line of thinking, Adara's mind sifted through the other things that had been said, and her eyes widened again, flickered toward Michael and Dare, then back to Emilian, surprise warring with question.

Michael's eyes rolled again on their own accord when Emilian spoke, after flicking over at Dare because of his words. They turned back to Dare again a few seconds later, then shifted in his chair as all of those uncomfortable thoughts came back into his mind. He watched Dare for a moment, then stared at the floor in front of his chair, deciding to stop speaking and distance himself from the conversation.

"Locking the door seems to fix that problem," Dare said purposefully. He could feel Michael's increasing discomfort and mentally swore; he wasn't helping. He shifted toward Michael as far as his seat would allow, then reached across the table to take Michael's hand. The humor was gone from his eyes, replaced with silent challenge as he looked back at Emilian. Say something, I dare you.

Emilian almost didn't hear what Dare had said, he had been distracted by the color in Adara's cheeks. When he opened his lips to reply and turned his eyes to Dare, he bit his tongue, catching the challenge and debating whether to take it or not. He wasn't going to say anything about the contact, but he couldn't really let the whole thing go. "My offer still stands, if you want to get away for a night or two, I wouldn't mind."

Adara's eyes widened further now, her shock undeniable. What was he doing? Michael was obviously uncomfortable, and Dare didn't look any happier, and Emilian was implying... One of Adara's hands shifted across her lap to settle on Emilian's thigh, a subtle motion as she inclined her head slightly, looking up at him. What are you doing?

Michael turned his eyes to Dare, silently thanking him for the contact, and wrapped his hand in Dare's. He had been able to push back his uncomfortable feelings from the Room of Requirement, until Emilian had started. Everything came back to him and, though it showed him why he had reacted the way he had, he wished it hadn't came back up in his mind.

"Thank you," Dare said again, his voice as cool and disapproving as he could get it. You could have let it go. Since Emilian hadn't, he would. Rather than adding fuel to the subject, he searched for a new one. Even so, he still felt like taunting, and so his thumb swept lightly against Michael's. It was a gesture of comfort and light intimacy, but it felt like a statement. "So are you leaving a key, or taking down whatever spells you have?" he asked mildly.

Emilian looked down at Adara and didn't push it, he let it drop instead of pursuing it like he could have, even if Dare had tried to let it go. He looked up in time to see the movement of Dare's thumb against Michael's, and brought his free hand over to Adara's. "I'll tell you what I have up," he said, suddenly very aware of his wand firm against his body. His fingers tightened around Adara's hand with the memory of getting it.

Emilian seemed to be behaving now, so she let the matter go, paying no real attention to Dare's contact with Michael, and so not making the connection with Emilian's mirroring movement. She had rather expected Emilian to take her hand--she had initiated contact, after all--so it hardly registered beyond momentary comfort that melted softly into a feeling of intimacy.

Though Michael was very glad for the contact, he still felt strange showing anything in front of Adara and Emilian, it felt odd to make it obvious. In the back of his mind he was able to link Emilian's movement with Dare's, but it didn't exactly click that something would come of it just yet. "I doubt we'll need to get in here," he said, though it would be nice to know just in case something needed done, however unlikely it was.

Dare nodded again, glad that Michael had moved past brooding. He'd move right back if he realized what Emilian was doing, though. Dare's eyes narrowed slightly. He wouldn't escalate that particular game any further, not least because it would end up hurting Michael. It was a miracle that Michael had accepted this. Of course, Emilian didn't know that, so Dare tried to look as casual as possible, and to give Emilian a look that said, I've got nothing to prove.

Emilian met Dare's eyes and grinned, his eyes sparkling as his thumb moved over Adara's hand. He was willing to continue, and shifted his leg to press slightly harder against Adara's. "I hope you would at least check in every once in a while to make sure the place hadn't...that nothing had happened to it." He changed the end of his phrase quickly away from hadn't burned down or anything, instinctively knowing that it wasn't a good idea to joke about that.
