A meeting was long overdue. New students had been trickling into the school for weeks, and surprisingly, two of them had joined the drawing club. Dare hadn't seen Belle in months, so he didn't expect her to show up, but even with her missing and Cassie transferred back to her college, that still left four members.
Dare had sent out the owls, then headed for the edge of the Forbidden Forest, just outside the treeline. They weren't breaking any rules being here, since they weren't in the forest, but still, it was comfortable in the shade there, and at least semi-private. They could be seen without being gawked at by everyone heading to the lake or the gates.
Dare stretched his long limbs, then sat cross-legged and propped his sketchbook against his thighs. His silver quill rested on the grass to his left, beside his artbox. He'd just relax a little while he waited for the others to show. Dare picked out a twig of vine charcoal, and started a sketch of the castle, perched up in the relative distance.

Michael came down early for the meeting, hoping for at least a few minutes with Dare before anyone else showed up. He grinned when he saw Dare and sat down next to him, though purposefully not sitting as close as he wanted for when someone came over. "Hey, Dare," he said, pulling out his own sketchbook and charcoal. He began flipping through pages, looking at the two landscapes he had done to see if there was anything he wanted to add.

Dare's hand stopped its motion against the page as he greeted Michael. His gaze scanned the lawns out in front of them, then he leaned toward Michael to look at the drawing he had open at the moment. His lips curved at seeing the landscape. "That's good," he said, gesturing toward it with a nod of his head. The statement held multiple meanings; yes, the drawing was good, but if Michael was drawing landscapes rather than portraits...well, that was good, too. Dare reached over with his left hand and gestured airily over a section of the paper. "I like the variations in tone here. It really makes it pop." His gaze lifted to Michael's for a moment, then he straightened and went back to tinkering with his castle sketch.

Michael smiled at the praise and looked more closely at the drawing, it was the one he had done of the view out Emilian's window. "Thank you," he said, his eyes taking everything in again for a few moments before he looked over at Dare's book, biting back a yours is really good, too, however truthful it was. Even just the sketch was something Michael could stare at for long minutes, if he let himself, but he felt odd at the idea of turning the words back on Dare, since he couldn't think of anything specific to point out.

"You think anyone is going to show up?" Dare asked. His lips quirked. "Think after fifteen minutes we ought to just pack up and go?" It was a joking suggestion, of course. Dare hadn't been drawing nearly enough lately, and he was enjoying capturing the castle. Still, if he was going to be alone with Michael, they might as well head to the Room of Requirement.

Michael shrugged, "Nah, someone will show up, surely." He glanced up, he did think someone would show up, even if he knew how people at the school could be. Even if they didn't show up, Michael was fine staying where they were, someone might come by late, not to mention it was nice outside and he had been in the castle way too much lately.

Dare gave a light nod. "I know," he said resignedly. He was technically the club leader, or President or whatever, so he supposed he ought to give the others a chance, but still, it was tempting. If unrealistic. He knew he wasn't going to up and leave, but it was something safe to talk about. Dare dropped his gaze from the castle and scanned the grounds again. It was real tempting. Dare glanced aside at Michael. "We were early," he said. "Do you have any idea what time it is?"
