You didn't push, you stopped. Dare didn't know how he'd stopped. Michael had stopped him, by breaking the kiss, by that shake of his head that Dare couldn't forget. One of Dare's hands rose, settling against the back of Michael's head as he hugged him again, then sifting lightly through his hair. He pressed a quick kiss to Michael's cheek, then let out some tension in a long breath. "This is exhausting," he said, then, realizing how that could be taken, went on, "Everything, I mean, not us." He gave Michael another quick kiss for reassurance. "I'd have gone insane already if it wasn't for you."

Michael was very glad for the reassurance, his mind having instantly jumped to their relationship. Then he couldn't help the small curve of one corner of his lips, "I'm glad I've been able to help for once." Usually, no matter how he tried to help, whoever he was trying to help ended up hurt by him or because of one of his choices. He figured he was pretty safe from going insane, he had been to the brink and back, he didn't think he had anything to fear on that front.

Dare smiled, his gaze dropping to that corner of Michael's lips, though for once he wasn't thinking about kissing them. He was thinking how good this felt, how right, and wondering how much of that Michael felt, too. He'd been doing a lot of thinking lately, after curfew when he was lying in the dorm, but the things he thought then were difficult to think in the daylight. It was always a lot easier to imagine saying them than to actually do it.

Normally, it would have been uncomfortable to watch someone, even if Michael had wanted to very badly. But with Dare doing the same, it was so easy to just watch his face, to examine and take in all of the little details. It wasn't as though Michael didn't already have Dare's face memorized, he had done that long before and could visualize it perfectly when away from him, but it was a comfort to do it, and he couldn't help but be amazed that they were actually together.

By some unspoken agreement it seemed, they left it at that. Dare was tired of the stress, and so he sought to keep things light, worked to push back his demons until they had no choice but to fade. So he enjoyed Michael, enjoyed the day off, and was grateful for it. By curfew, it was as it always was, one last kiss, lingering because neither of them really wanted to part, then parting all the same.
