Emilian shook his head, "No, Adara wrote that Hells is putting spells on the shop. I've put up some extras just to make sure. Even if they get in here, they won't be able to do anything." The only thing he could think of them doing would be putting something up around the shop, which he figured the men wouldn't do unless they had good reason. He thought that not seeing Michael and Dare leave wouldn't do much, his situation couldn't get much worse.

Dare threw another glance at Michael, one brow arched as if to say, sounds like one hell of a love letter, eh? Then he turned back to his drawing, thinking over Michael's words. They know we lied by now. His mind made connections he'd almost rather it hadn't. "I'm going with apparating back to the gates," he said, his voice lower than it had been last time, and only partially due to the concentration he was putting into his drawing. "If any of the guys watching is the one who stopped me last time, he'll have recognized me, and they'll have talked to the others. They'll have it figured out." He was sure of it, and for all his earlier bravado, he really didn't feel like walking into an ambush.

Michael nodded, looking over at Dare and wishing he could go over to him. "We'll be alright if we apparate," he said, "And we'll use the charm so they can't see us. It'll still be dangerous, but I don't think anything will happen." He wouldn't voice the at least the first time that threatened to come out. He didn't think that Hells would put anything, he couldn't believe that she was even helping the one she kicked out, he didn't think that she would put anything up to stop them apparating.

Emilian was too preoccupied to notice anything going on between Michael and Dare. "They might ask me something next time I leave," he mused to himself. It would make sense if they did do it, it wouldn't surprise them if they tried, if it was the only way they could think of to get information. "As long as you two are careful you'll be fine, but once her father finds out...it's going to be different."

Dare grimaced. That was what he was just now starting to worry about. It was one thing traveling in a pack of two to skirt around one pushy and over-curious informant, and another entirely subverting an increasingly observant group of informants. Dare let himself remain silent, lost to his thoughts for the moment. His pencil scratched across the paper in lieu of any words, softly declaring him momentarily out of the conversation.

Michael wished Emilian hadn't mentioned that last little bit, but he couldn't move back time and stop him. He watched Dare out of the corner of his eye, his hand moving slowly over his own paper. "What is the man like?" he asked Emilian, "What happened when you were in there?" He didn't know if Emilian would answer, especially in front of Dare, but he would rather attempt to find out than to continue talking about the dangers of the men waiting for them.

Emilian watched Dare for a moment with mild interest as he tried to think of what he would say. "I kept my cool until he told me that I should be happy for her. You know," he said, looking over at Michael, "For the good of the family and all that." He shrugged, grimacing slightly. "We went back and forth a bit and he ended up telling me I wasn't worth being with her, backhanded me, and brought in his associate." He wrinkled his nose as he looked at Michael.

Dare's head rose at that, and his brows rose even further. He wasn't entirely certain he wanted to hear all this, but he was too curious to just plug his ears and hum. If he hadn't already begun to realize the differences between the aristocracy in his father that seemed more like a strange twist than anything, and this bizarre world that he'd somehow found himself just inside the fringes of, he was certainly realizing it now. It made him wonder about his father's sanity for coming back to the family seat. Which, Dare also realized, he knew little about.

Michael glanced over at Dare again, then nodded at Emilian, "Is he worse than ours?" Michael knew they would be free to choose who they wanted to be with, though that could have been because they were guys. "I mean, ours are pretty stuck in their ways, but I know there are worse out there when it comes to marriage." He let his eyes trail back over to Dare, unable to keep them on Emilian.

Emilian nodded, "Yeah, he's pretty bad. Apparently the person he wants to put her with is some man he's neighbors with." His hands clenched lightly and his eyes darkened as his mind went back to that day. "And the way he talked about her....like she was just some thing to be sold," his jaw tightened with the return of the anger. He didn't let himself remember when he had viewed her as nothing more than something to conquer.

Dare didn't have anything intelligent or useful to add, so he simply watched, though for propriety's sake, he did so in fleeting glances up from his drawing. If he couldn't add to the conversation, he could at least learn from it. He was more and more glad for his mixed blood as he listened. Thank God he didn't need to worry about marrying for the family name.

Michael turned his eyes down to his paper, filling in a little to let the urge to point out Emilian's hypocritical words leave. "You know how those people are," he said after a minute. "You grew up around them just like I did, you shouldn't have expected anything different." He felt that Emilian would know what he had kept silent about, but it was still better than coming right out and saying it.

Emilian sneered at Michael, as though to say yes, I know. Michael didn't have to bring it up, Emilian had just hoped, stupidly, that it would be different. It was just a product of his feelings, that feeling in his chest that he just couldn't ignore, that he had for Adara mixed with his all encompasing need to keep her safe. He went quiet, letting his eyes go out of focus in the air between Dare and Michael.

Dare lifted his gaze at Emilian's silence, his eyes flickering only briefly to Emilian before searching out Michael. The tension in the room had just multiplied, and Dare was certain that Michael knew why, that there was something that hadn't been said because it hadn't needed to be said. He stifled his curiosity though; this was neither the time nor place for it.

Michael watched Emilian for a second before turning his eyes to Dare, wondering faintly what Dare was thinking about the whole ordeal. Then he turned his gaze to the view out of the window. It was an odd feeling, knowing that Emilian was sitting there, possibly regretting how he had once acted, full of hatred for a man he had never met because he wronged the girl Emilian had fallen for. And, instead of leaving, giving up, Emilian was sticking it out, hoping to see her again. Michael sighed softly and watched his hand move over the paper.
