Dare's lips quirked. "If you did, I'm sure I wouldn't be here," he said. Emilian could easily have done whatever portrait he wanted on his own, and Dare would have had to find something else to bargain with. He didn't figure, outside that one portrait, that he really had anything that would have tempted Emilian to let a near-stranger draw him.

Emilian smirked, "I suppose not." He watched Dare silently for a few seconds, then remembered something Adara had said. "For all I don't want one of me to keep, Adara does," he said, figuring it best that Dare know what was wanted. He didn't figure it would be that big of a deal, considering the main point of the sessions was to draw himself.

Dare glanced up at that, the first actual mention of Adara. "I'll talk to her," Dare offered. "Show her what I've got so far, work out what she wants." An impossibility at the moment, since he'd never even seen the girl. "I'll need to meet her, though. I'm guessing that's who you want the portrait of?" An educated guess, but he figured he'd ask.

"Yes," Emilian said, nodding, "But it may be a while before she can come down here." His eyes darkened at that, the uncomfortable reminder that she was staying in the castle instead of even dropping by to tell him in person that she had to stay up there. His jaw clenched momentarily as did one hand. He took a deep breath to calm himself and relaxed, not wanting to draw questions.

"Oh. Well, I could meet her up at the school, it wouldn't be any problem. I'd have to find her first, though." Dare didn't know what was going on in Emilian's mind, but there was nothing to be done about that, so he went on as though he hadn't noticed anything. "What house is she in? What's she look like? I mean, if that sounds like a good idea to you." After Michael's warnings, Dare didn't want Emilian to get the feeling Dare was stepping on his toes.

Emilian tensed slightly, he didn't like the idea of her being alone with Dare, even if he knew it was purely artistic. He breathed heavily through his nose, then an idea popped into his head, he couldn't see Adara, but perhaps... "Could you give her something?" he asked, looking at Dare. It would be infinitely safer than sending her an owl, if her father was as bad as Emilian thought, for Adara to think it safer to stay in the castle.

Dare looked up again, his hand pausing against the paper. "Yeah, I guess," he said. He still didn't know anything more about her than her name, but he figured he could find her. Maybe he'd ask Michael to help him out. Dare looked at Emilian, wondering what was going on. There was no reading Emilian's thoughts, but he could see some kind of wheels turning in his mind, and it made Dare wary. He hadn't missed that momentary wave of possessiveness.

Emilian smiled, the first real smile to come over his lips since the day before. "She's a Ravenclaw, long, deep brown hair, dark eyes, pale. You can't miss her, she always wears skirts." It was a vague description, but he couldn't get much more descriptive without feeling the need to go find her. He couldn't remember seeing any girls at the school that came even close to matching her description, so it shouldn't be impossible for Dare to find her. And if he would take her a letter, then it would be worth it.

"Ravenclaw," Dare said. That'd help. Hell, maybe he could get Silver to man up long enough to send her out of Ravenclaw Tower for him. "I'll find her. So what do you want me to give her? Like, a message or something?" Dare was just interested enough in all the mystery going on that he wouldn't object to being a messenger, just this once. Normally he'd have said he wanted nothing to do with it, but he figured he was supposed to draw Adara anyway, so he might as well.

"Yes, she wasn't able to come by," he said, then looked away, turning his head away from Dare. It was only with effort that Emilian brought his eyes back to Dare, going silent as he started mentally writing his message to Adara. His mood was immediately lightened at the idea of having contact with her, because surely she would send something back to him. He didn't let himself consider the fact that he was using Dare as an owl and that he wouldn't get a reply instantly.

Dare watched Emilian a while longer, then turned back to his drawing. It was coming along pretty well, he thought. It was entirely different from the others he'd done. Of course, that was to be expected. The medium could change the entire mood of the picture, and he'd purposefully chosen one that was naturally more somber. Dare was perfectly happy to busy himself and leave Emilian to his thoughts.

Emilian fell into his mind, digging through the memory of the meeting with Adara's father. Could it have went any other way? No, the man had decided before Emilian had even walked in that he wouldn't consider him. It had been bound to end like it had, with Emilian and the man on horrible terms. If he could just see Adara, he would be so much better. He wanted...he forced his attention back to the note he would write.

Dare didn't even notice the time passing after that. Emilian was as quiet as he was, so there was nothing to distract him. It wasn't until he'd paused, looking for another detail to add and not finding one, that he judged his drawing done. It was a little rough, but it was exactly what he'd wanted. Dare set aside his charcoal, dusted his hand on his jeans, and looked up at Emilian. "You want to see it?" he asked.

Emilian was pulled out of his thoughts by the question, but he nodded once it registered. While he didn't want to keep one, he did want to see what Dare did. He had finally calmed down, come to terms with what had happened and was able to think rationally about everything. He leaned forward, putting his elbows on his knees, glad to be able to change positions without guilt as he waited to see.

Dare leaned toward Emilian, handing him the notebook, his heart constricting lightly. It was, he thought, a revealing portrait, and though given time, he could go farther, for now, he hoped he hadn't gone too far. It was what he wanted to do, though; capture the person as a whole, even the things they weren't comfortable seeing in themselves.
