Life Goes on (Liam/open)

[Gabby Brocklehurst]

Gabby turned the pages of the thick, dusty volume she had in front of her quickly, canning the page to see if it told her what she needed to know. She was trying to write an assignment for history and the facts she needed were extremelt hard to find. She shut the book with a large thud, getting a look from the librarian for disturbing the peace. She sighed and closed her eyes. It had been so hard to concentrate and her grades were slipping. She skipped class most of the time and went out late at night, sometimes staying in Hogsmeade, anything to make her forget about Ryan and Vannah.

Liam had been inside the Library, looking for a book that may help him understand the wizarding world easily. He found a book that seemed universal for it. It seemed to be a book on humanity, so he decided that was his best bet. He picked out the book and sat down at the table where Gabby was, not aware she was there and started to read the book. He knew he would seem like an idiot for asking everyone about it, so he decided to turn to written records. He loved reading as it seemed to be a sure-fire way to gather knowledge.

Gabby looked up as someone came and sat down at her table. She was about to yell quietly at them until she realized it was Liam. "Oh hi Liam" she said, smiling tiredly at him. Looking at his book she raised her eyebrows slightly, interesting she thought. "People are a mystery to me too" she said softly. She knew she looked tired, her eyes had lost their sparkle and even her curls seemed limper.

Liam looked at Gabby and was sure she had been tired. "Hey Gabby." he said in a quiet tone so as not to disturb anyone. He blushed at her comment about the book he chose and knew he had to explain. "Well....You know about people more than I do, and I know I'll make myself look like a moron if I keep asking others...so I thought this book would help." he replied in the same quiet tone. He did not comment on her appearence as so far, he learned that it was rude to comment randomly about a girl's appearence.

Gabby nodded. "Well you can always ask me. I don't mind" she assured Liam. She sighed as she finished off the assignment she had in front of her. "Have classes been ok?" hse asked, "I haven't been in a while" she said, although he would probably already know that.

"Well...they have been. It just hasn't been the same without you there however." he said honestly. Gabby was one of his best friends, and it made him feel alone when she wasn't around in class.

Gabby smiled gratefully. "Aaaw thanks Liam" she said, "That means a lot to me. Maybe i'll start coming again. I don't know, I just can't concentrate and I don't really care anymore. Not at the moment" she said sadly.

Liam smiled a little but understood why she didn't care. "Don't worry. You can take as much time as you need. I'll cover for you when the professors ask where you are." he said, smiling a little, placing a hand on her shoulder.

Gabby looked at Liam gratefully. "Oh thanks Liam, that would make things easier" she said, the relief evident in her voice. She smiled slightly at him, before sighing and pulling her next assignment towards her. "I'm still trying to work" she said earnestly.

Liam smile a little. "You don't have to thank me." he said honestly. He then heard her comment about her needing to work. "Do you need any help?" he asked, hoping he'd be able to help.

Gabby thought for a moment, this was her last assignment for the moment, and she was pretty sure she could handle it. "I think I'm good for now" she said, smiling at him to show his offer was appreciated. "But if I ever do need help I know who to call." she said.
