One of Dare's brows arched as he looked back up at Emilian. "A whore, hm? Literally or figuratively?" It was a rhetorical question; Dare figured it wasn't literal, but whore seemed a bit harsh even for someone who ran the rumor mill. Dare switched out some of the pastels he'd picked for certain browns and burnished reds he'd enjoyed before. "That's what people do, is mess in other people's business. Crap like gossip can't touch you unless you let it." He didn't let it.

"The interviewer is most definitely a whore, and the others are right behind her" he said, watching Dare intently. He quickly moved on, unwilling to think too much about her. "I suppose it's not all bad, though, it's pretty good for business." It seemed like everyone wanted to come and see him at the shop, especially the new girls, they always seemed to come in. Like that Mari girl....

"I'll watch out for the interviewer then," Dare said, lips curving lightly. He didn't really care about any interviewer, didn't see her coming after him for anything, so he wasn't worried. "You really get in the paper that often?" he asked. "Or is it all just...old stuff getting dredged up?" Yes, he was referring to something in specific, something Michael had told him, but he couldn't exactly claim to know it without bringing Michael into things, since he'd already said he didn't read the paper. Dare didn't want to bring Michael into this unless it was unavoidable. He wanted to be sure of his footing before he risked treading into dangerous waters. So far, it seemed like Emilian didn't have a clue.

Emilian eyed Dare, even the people that didn't read the paper had heard something about him. "A bit of both, there hasn't been a gossip column since I got here that didn't involve me. Usually something new with the old backing it up." And there was always something new that he had either done or supposedly done. "You don't get around much, do you?"

Dare looked up, somehow surprised to find Emilian looking at him. "I haven't been here long," he said. Dare looked at Emilian one long moment, wondering what was going through his mind, if it was only the topic of conversation, if it was only his exalted Pureblood self. Then he turned back to his drawing. "I haven't met a lot of people, anyway. I don't know, either they're put off by the look, or they think it'll bug me being interrupted." He shrugged lightly as he worked.

"From my experience they really don't care if they're interrupting you." Emilian's eyes remained on Dare, still wondering at how in the world he could have went through the school without hearing about him, unless he was bluffing.... He refused to give thought to the idea that he wasn't a talking point any more, he had grown so used to it that it seemed implausible. "Although, it has been while since I've been up there," he said, mostly to himself, not counting the Masquerade.

Dare shook his head slightly. "No, I can sit in the same spot for days and no one stops. I'm starting to think if you're not running around with a constant woody begging for attention, you fade into the stonework." Which was a ridiculous thought; when had he ever faded into the stonework? Dare shrugged again and paused to look at his drawing for a moment, letting his eyes sweep over the blocks of color identifiable as their subject, though not yet detailed enough to be anywhere near finished.

Emilian couldn't help a smirk and a short laugh at Dare's comment, perhaps it was true. It did seem that the people with the most attention in the paper were him and Firebrand, and that Ryan boy, but Emilian didn't count him. "Well then I suppose being an addict has its downsides, as well." He saw being interrupted as a downside. He continued to watch Dare, still seeing small similarities to Michael, even the words that came from his mouth sounded slightly familiar, Michael had never really understood Emilian's obsession.

Addict. There was that word again, and this time it was used in a definite enough context to confirm Dare's original thought. Which made sense now that he knew who Emilian was. Dare shook his head again at the thoughts going through his mind, then went back to drawing, adding details around the eyes first; he loved the expressive qualities, loved trying to duplicate them. "Doesn't it get tiring?" he wondered aloud. "I mean, I put about everything I've got into my art. It just seems like...all that, sex, and chasing after it, and thinking about it all the time or whatever, would just drain everything." And then where would his art be? Where would his passion be? He wasn't anywhere near curious or desperate enough to risk losing it.

Emilian grinned, "No, what's really tiring is when that's what you're used to and then you try to focus on one person." It was exhausting, trying to not go after everyone he came in contact with, the self control was a nightmare. "I would think constantly concentrating on art would be tiring. Though, people do consider the body a work of art, you could say I'm just appreciative of live models."

Dare couldn't help grinning at that. He shook his head again, his hand pausing against the paper as he looked up at Emilian. "Nice," he said, eyes laughing. He sobered a bit as he looked back at his drawing. "I'd love some live models--to draw, mind you--but it's just not happening. My one friend's already told me not to ask, and I'm not gonna up and ask every girl I see, so I'm out of luck." Too bad, too.

Emilian wondered, could Dare be talking about Michael? No, surely there were more artists in the school than two. But he couldn't help thinking of Michael. "Michael used to memorize faces, he was surprisingly good at it, so he rarely actually needed models," he said, not really thinking when he put out the name. When he was thinking about people, it was easier for their names to slip from his lips.

Dare shot a glance up at Emilian, his first thought that he'd finally been found out. His gaze paused, searched, then, finding nothing to tell him that Emilian had guessed, he relaxed again and dropped his gaze to his drawing. He let the eyes sit for now and switched out his colors to work on the mouth. "You saw his work, then?" Dare asked. He knew it was a dangerous question, but he wondered. He hadn't seen Michael's work yet.

So Dare knew Michael, "Yes, I've flipped through a book or two of his, not that he missed them, had so many." He examined Dare, watched as he changed colors and how his hand moved. There had been a few times where he had taken a book of Michael's to look at, art wasn't his thing, but the fact that it was right out of Michael's mind made it different.

He had meant the question to sound like casual interest in Emilian's friend, but something in the air had changed, and Dare had the strong feeling that Emilian had figured out that he knew Michael, that he was the friend Dare had mentioned, though the rest wasn't so easy to guess, not least because Michael had apparently turned Emilian down on more than one occasion. Dare looked up from his drawing again, evaluating yet one more time, then pausing as he looked down at the paper. "Was it any good?" he asked, though he knew that good was subjective. Somehow, he hoped he was wrong, that Emilian didn't know.
