Vianna made her way through the crowd and sat herself down at the nearest table. Her hair was back to perfect, her dress showed no sign of distress. The short walk from the garden had given her time to think over her actions. She did not regret what had happened and she was glad she now knew who he was. She just wasn't sure whether or not she should reveal just yet who she was, if at all. Instead, she sat and grinned at Hook, her eyes sparkling with excitement.

Hook was right behind Vianna, his gaze traveling almost reflexively over the dip of her waist and the sway of her hips until the moment she turned to sit. He sat beside her, a knowing smile curving his lips as the glasses in front of them filled. He knew her intimately, and yet he knew nothing. The paradox was intriguing to say the least.

Tearing her eyes away from Hook, Vianna took her drink and lifted it to her lips, sipping it slowly. She glanced around, wondering what she could say to the man, without giving anything away. "The ball has been a success so far, don't you think?" She said slowly, glancing back at the man sat across from her. "Everyone seems to be having such a great time. Us included." She stated, sipping her drink once again, the chilliness of it cooling her tongue.

"Indeed," Hook said, his gaze refusing to stray from the mysterious Vianna. When was the last time a woman had so caught his attention? He could think of few, and none recently as he sipped his drink, then set it on the table. "It was an excellent idea expertly organized," he said. "Of course, there is much to be said for the company." His blue eyes glittered at Vianna, the compliment clear.

Vianna was thankful for the mask although was sure her blush could still be seen by the gazing eyes of the man beside her. "Good company is always a bonus." She replied, placing her own drink back on the table. She wondered what questions she could ask him without betraying the knowledge that she knew who he was. "Do you enjoy these balls normally?" She asked, deciding that it was safer to refer to the ball then anything else.

"This is my first," Hook said, watching Vianna curiously, but not over-intently. He wondered who she was, and had decided that, for his peace of mind if nothing else, he wanted to discover her identity, and so he watched for any clue. Her implied attendance at multiple balls, for example. She was likely not one of the newer staff at the school. "I was unavailable for the last ball Hogwarts held. Was it memorable?"

"Well," began Vianna. "It's been several years since we had a proper ball. It was of course enjoyable and there was no trouble, unlike last year with the boat party." She wondered momentarily if she had said too much, but then decided that seeing as everyone had heard about it in one or another, it wouldn't give too much away. "Such sad losses. I'm glad to say that tonight, there hasn't been any trouble that I have witnessed. Everyone is happy, joyful and glad of each other's company. That's the way it should be." She looked across at the man and smiled softly.

"Indeed," Hook said, echoing his earlier sentiment. His eyes had darkened at the reminder of the boat party, and he glanced away, gathering his shields into place before turning back to Vianna with a soft smile only the most discerning observer might identify as practiced. "The boat party was a tragedy, but a victory as well. The Death Eaters, if they are still around at all, are deep in hiding once more." His hand flexed slightly, a silent test that his ring was still in place, the one comfort he had from that night and the weeks surrounding it.

"But for how long, we wonder" Vianna asked, more to herself then to Hook. "But then it's always good to know that the Order is there to protect us all from them." He can interpret that how he likes She thought to herself, I really must be careful with what I say. Shrugging, Vianna glanced up at the ceiling where a starry night sky could just about be seen, almost replicating the real night sky. "Anyway, let's not talk of such sombre things on a night like tonight. We are here to celebrate, not mourn. There's been too much of that already."

"Indeed," Hook said again. He followed Vianna's gaze to the faintly star-speckled ceiling above them, letting the vastness of it carry away his melancholy thoughts. He had the rest of his life to brood; tonight, he was in the company of a ravishing beauty, one his gaze returned intently to as he considered those moments of passion they had shared. His lips curved at the thought. "Tell me, Vianna, is there a story behind your costume?" he asked, letting his gaze slip almost innocently over her.

"A story? No, there's no story. And if there was I'm sure it would be terribly boring. It's just a dress. A dress with many ruffles and a mask in which we can all hide behind and pretend we are not who we really are." She tore her attention away from the stars and beamed at Hook. "But what about you? What made you come as a pirate renowned in the muggle world for being a rogue?"

"I am interested in Muggle things, in stories in particular right now. I had seen the Muggle movie some time ago, and the character of Hook stood out to me. His ruthlessness, and despite it all, Wendy's attraction to him, struck me as fascinating. So, I am the wicked Captain Hook, learning the character through becoming him. Or I was, until I became thoroughly distracted by a ravishing wench." Hook gave Vianna a charmingly practiced roguish smile at that, forget-me-not eyes gleaming.

"Ah, so you had an alterior motive for coming tonight, until I put a, how is it the muggles say? A spanner in the works?" Laughed Vianna, trying not get too drawn into the blue of his eyes. "I apologise for that. Was that why you were stood alone in the gardens earlier? Scheming away?" She noticed that the music had stopped on the dance floor for a few seconds before commencing onto the next one. Obviously a favourite, judging from the sounds that it evoked.

Hook's lips twisted wryly. "Perhaps," he said, teasing. He lifted his glass a moment as he watched her, his gaze piercing. "Actually, I was only taking in the air. I'd been through the crowds, and the quiet of the gardens was a welcome relief. I am, perhaps somewhat like my character, solitary in nature, and the peace was bliss." His eyes gleamed as he looked at Vianna, recalling the bliss which had followed at their meeting. His knowing smirk returned.

Vianna lowered her head to hide her grin as she thought of that moment back in the forest. Composing herself, she lifted up her head slightly and glanced at Hook from beneath her lashes. "I would also apologise for breaking your peace, however I'm very glad I did so, and my apology would be just a lie." She turned to look away as a smile swept across her face. She couldn't help it. Tonight she was feeling different, willing to tease her companion. "Is that how you spend your time normally? Alone?"
