When Jack showed up in the Entrance Hall, he stood off to the side instead of going into the small group of costumed students that had already showed up. He was unsure about his costume, he had seen a younger student carrying around something called a Movie Book which told the story and had pictures in the middle of the characters and had fallen in love with the witty pirate in the story. He had spent a while trying to get everything just right, eventually choosing against keeping the hat, figuring it would be too much trouble to keep up with the whole night. He watched the other people, trying to see if he could figure out who they were, but failing miserably, he wondered if anyone would recognize him. It made him smile, he was excited, it was going to be a fun night.

The Princess stopped just inside the entrance hall, her sparkling gaze sweeping over those who had entered before her, taking in their costumes with gently curved lips. Her eyes paused at the figure standing nearby, watching the crowd much as she was. Her lashes fluttered, dipped, then lifted with the contact. She could not help her curiosity. Who was he? Was he perhaps one of her friends? She smiled at him, though he could not have recognized her.

Jack felt eyes on him and he turned his gaze to the girl standing near him, a smile coming over his face. "Hello, love," he said, eyes sparkling as he used the term that he had read so often in the book, and took a few steps closer to her. "Don't you look lovely this evening." His eyes trailed down, marveling at how well the dress fit her frame.

A rosy blush infused the princess's cheeks at the pirate's endearment. She could feel the way he looked at her as easily as see it, and she nearly dropped her gaze away from him. But still, the endearment, love, called to something inside her that she kept hidden, and she chose to respond to the compliment he had paid her.
The princess crossed the floor toward the pirate, a rather eccentric pirate it seemed, her skirts swishing around her. "I thank you, sir, for the compliment," she said, dipping into a low courtsey.

"You are most welcome," he said, smiling. Jack crossed his arms comfortably across his chest and examined her face, looking for clues. "Could I have a name, perchance?" He didn't expect to have an actual name, but one to call the girl in front of him, something to connect to her face other than love. Though by the end of the night he hoped to have everyone figured out, making a game out of it.

"Princess, sir pirate," she said, rising again and bringing her gaze curiously to his. Her head tilted, a look of curiosity on her face as she looked at him. "And what is your name?" She did not recognize the costume at all, a sign of her upbringing for certain.

"Captain Jack Sparrow," he said, giving a little bow and grinning. "But Jack's fine with me." His beads moved as he did, making a pleasant little clinking noise as he righted himself again. He looked around to where he could hear music, debating staying outside to see the costumes and going inside to start having fun. But he hadn't seen nearly enough people come in to make the dance floor much fun.

"Jack, then," the Princess said, her smile returning in a soft curve of strawberry-red lips. She followed his gaze toward the music and gave a light sigh of longing. It was contemporary music, true, but it had been so long since she had danced that she told herself it would be no trouble to extend her talents. If she were in the right company.
The Princess's eyes returned to Jack's, catching on the decorations in his hair. "It is a clever touch," she said, unaware that he hadn't designed the costume himself.

Jack reached up and fingered one of the strings of beads, "Can't be me without it," he said, shrugging. It was part of the costume, and a part so quirky he just couldn't stand to leave out. He looked towards the doors again, falling into a comfortable silence. "I think that I'm going to head in," he glanced back at her, "Care to join me?" he asked, offering a friendly arm.

The princess's smile brightened as she slipped her arm around Jack's, resting her hand against his sleeve. "I would be delighted," she said. She had only intended to watch, but it seemed she was not destined to simply watch from her tower after all, and she could not regret that fact. She had been told to have fun, and she intended to.

Jack walked her to the door and opened it for her, giving her the honor of walking in first. The sound of the music was exciting, making his blood rush as he glanced around before walking in, a smile etched onto his face. "Tonight's going to be amazing," he said softly, eyes sparkling with anticipation.
