Dare grinned back as he looked up at Michael. "Damn, that was going to be my next question." He chuckled, then gave a crooked one-shouldered shrug. "Guess I'll have to keep looking," he said, his eyes gleaming with laughter. He began to wonder though; where was he ever going to get a model for figure drawing? Dare went back to his drawing for a moment, thinking, then asking. "Do you draw everything from memory? You ever, you know, just get someone to sit for you?" Maybe Michael knew someone he didn't. It was worth asking.

"Well, I generally only draw people when I'm like...well, like this." Anytime he was feeling really strongly about someone Michael would draw them over and over until he worked it out of his system. "It's generally landscapes, people don't like to sit still long enough to be drawn." He looked back down, satisfied with what he had done, he hadn't intended for it to be too detailed, and the ethereal feel worked with the situation, she was still in his mind, but it was like she had disappeared.

"Damn," Dare said again. "Not that I expected it to be different here, but I figured I'd ask. I'll have to be stealthy, then..." Nothing he hadn't done before. Nothing he hadn't been doing now, in fact. Dare trailed off as he switched colors, layering them over one another to create a richer shadow. "God, I missed pastels," he said to himself.

"As long as you don't get caught, right?" Michael ran a finger over the drawing, smoothing out things a little more. "I've not used those in forever, kind of been obsessed with just regular pencil the last little bit." He looked up, away from his page, and watched Dare, he had usually been the observer, sitting in the corner and watching everyone else when given the chance, it had gotten him in trouble more than once when he had been younger. The memory pulled up the corners of his lips in a grin.

"Unless girls are different here, they don't really mind. You tell them they have amazing eyes or something, let them see the drawing, and they're cool for the most part." There was the occasional over-sensitive girl who'd insist on keeping the drawing herself, but it was worth it. "I haven't gotten around to a lot of portraits though. Still drawing Hogwarts mostly." He had a view of the lake, the entrance hall, and the corridor outside the library so far.

"According to who you get, they're just as likely to hex you as anything here." It seemed like everyone in the school had ended up in the hospital wing the past few months, most of them girls, with that Gabby in the middle of it all. "You'll never get all of Hogwarts done. The best is the lake at night, but then, I like night time, so," he shrugged, it was all a matter of opinion. There was so much to draw, in the castle and out, that Michael didn't think anyone could draw it all.

"Hex you?" Dare repeated, looking up at Michael to see if he was pulling his leg. It didn't look like it. Michael's eyes were too expressive to make a joke like that without any sign whatsoever. "Okay, back up. I get what you're saying about the school, it's huge, but hex you? Isn't that a little harsh?" He could defend himself alright, but he hadn't expected to have to.

Michael snorted, "The girls here are pretty much insane. Not to say I'm not friends with the majority of them, but they can be a little wand-happy. About every one of them's been in the hospital wing the last few months, and a few of the guys, too." He knew Dru hadn't been in the hospital due to injury, and neither had Adara, or Anna as far as he knew, but the rest of the girls he knew had.

"Damn. I'll watch out for them, then. Thanks for the warning." Dare shook his head as he looked back down at his drawing, working in some highlights. "I knew SWIM--my old school--was uptight, but I guess I'd never really thought about what'd happen if it wasn't. This is going to take some getting used to." The Forbidden Forest thing was nothing, really. He'd always been one of the kids out by the broom sheds, but SWIM had been really hard on hexing.

"The professors and headmistresses stay holed up in their offices all the time, doubt they even have any idea what actually goes on around here." Michael reached into his box, putting the colored pencils back and pulling out a plain one, then flipped to a new page. "I suppose you can't expect much when you put kids of Death Eaters in with ones that don't know how to keep their wands to themselves." He looked around the tiny clearing, trying to find something worth putting on paper.

Dare's hand paused at that. It made sense; Voldemort's power had been centered in Britain, so reason said that there would be more Death Eaters. More? "Y'know, I'm not sure there were any Death Eaters' kids at SWIM," Dare mused. "I mean, there were some that said they were, but it could've been a load of bullsh~ for all I knew. I always figured it was." He shrugged and glanced up at Michael. "There many around here?"

Michael focused his gaze on his blank page, "Yeah, you'd be surprised." He didn't draw anything, didn't even attempt to put his pencil to paper to make it look like he was drawing something. He wasn't sure if he was willing to tell Dare, if he asked. He wasn't one any more, so it wasn't that big of a problem, but just the fact that he still had that mark on his arm was enough for some people.

"Hm." Dare didn't look back at his page just yet. There was something in Michael's eyes again. Dare didn't stop to wonder what it was, it was lost, it was hurt, it was getting immortalized on paper, a secondary drawing sketched out beside the first, melding with it. "You don't have to tell me," Dare said. It was obvious there was something, though, and it had seemed to help Michael to talk about his girlfriend. He wondered briefly; was she one of the Death Eaters' kids he'd mentioned?

Michael stared blankly at the page for a minute, tugging again at his shirtsleeve. When he finally looked up at Dare again, he still didn't speak, he watched him, examined him, trying to figure out how Dare would react. He had caught the stop of Dare's hand when Death Eaters had been mentioned. The last person he had told had been that Gabby, and that had only been to prove a point. But what was the reason in hiding it? Dare would find out from someone else, more than likely, anyway.

Michael was wrestling with something, it was obvious in the set of his jaw, and there was that motion again, the pull of his sleeve. A thought began to nag at the back of Dare's mind as he drew, but it hadn't fully formed, and it was still overshadowed by his earlier thought, his earlier guess that the sleeve hid marks, scars. Dare's hand moved slightly faster against the page as the connection threatened. It couldn't fully form, though. As far as Dare knew, the Death Eaters were extinct. "What is it?" Dare asked at last, the tension, the wondering finally getting to him. His hand stilled, and he looked up at Michael.
