Kira stood in the owlery, her letter to Derek in her hand, still open as she read it for the hundredth time. She had no idea where Derek was or why he had not been to the school. He had not returned any of her mail and her concern had grown over the months. They had been good friends before and Kira couldn't quite understand what had happened since. Sighing she looked around for an owl that was ready to make a journey, knowing this would probably be the last letter to Derek she would send. It took a lot for Kira to admit defeat, but Kira knew that waning after him would do her no good.
Using her spare hand to reach into her pockets, she scrummaged around for some owl treats to tempt one of them to do her bidding.

He made his way into the owlery, humming a tune that had been going round his head for the last couple days. He noticed the girl stood on her own and faltered in his step, resulting in him tripping over his own feet. Quickly regaining composure, he looked back at the girl, his face reddening due to his embarressment. He cleared his throat, then spoke to the girl. "Hi." He started, unsure where to look. "I, urm, hope I didn't bother you."

Kira spun around when she heard someone stumble behind her. She pressed her lips together, trying to stop herself from letting out a giggle as she watched the boy sort himself out. She recognised him as one of her fellow prefects, Shaw and was unsure if he recognised her. He hadn't seemed to take a good look at her yet and Kira was positive he would be more embarressed once he realised they knew each other.
"Hey Shaw!" Kira said, realising that she wasn't feeling as somber as she had been two minutes previously. "You didn't bother me, I was just trying to tempt one of this here darn owls. You alright?" She asked, giving him one of her cheesy grins as she looked at his redden face.

Shaw recognised the voice and berated himself for not recognising the face earlier. "Kira it's you, the light in here don't help, but I didn't realise it was you." He felt the blushing spread across his face even more. "I'm alright cheers. Just going to send a message to me ma" Shaw stated, then thinking that it was probably obvious he was up here to send something, seeing that this was the place to go. "Er, What you up to today?" He asked, beckoning an owl to him from the rafters.

"Well." started Kira as she waved an owl treat in the air. "Depending on if this owl comes or not, nothing much. But.." She continued, getting irritated by the stubborn owl sat on the beam. "If it doesn't come down from there, then I shall be spending the day clearing up owl feathers after hexing it."
The owl appeared to understand Kira's threats and flew down to a perch beside her, possibly thinking that maybe a journey would be better then a loss of feathers. "See, that wasn't hard was it?" She said, tying the note to it's leg. "Now, this is for Derek Diggory. I have no idea where he is, so good luck. Just make sure he gets it. This is the last one for him I promise. No more after this." She stroked the owl's head affectionately, before stepping back to let the Owl swoop out. She went to turn to back to Shaw then hesitated, realising she must have sounded terrible whilst talking to the owl. She opened her mouth to defend her actions, the closed it quickly not sure how to make things sound better.

Shaw listened to Kira while he sorted his own owl out. He heard her mention someone called Derek and that she had no idea where he was. He noticed her own embarressment when she appeared to remember he was hear. He had no idea wether or not he should say something. "Er, love letter?" He asked, then wincing when he realised he sounded like an idiot. "I mean, is Derek your boyfriend?" He confirmed, then closed his eyes, thinking he really did sound like a prat and should be hexed himself. "Sorry, it's none of my business. Just I heard you talking and you sounded a little sad. Is he missing or a student at the school?" He had no idea who Derek was, but the sadness on Kira's face probably meant they were close in some way. Shaw wasn't sure why he cared, but he could understand Kira's feeling of not knowing. It was afterall, something Shaw was familiar with.

"Derek?" She said, her voice crackling slightly as she mentioned his name. "No, he's not a boyfriend. I'm surprised you don't know him. Ex Prefect, Hufflepuff, Keeper on the quidditch team. All round nice guy." Her face dropped as she spoke of him, sadness filling her as she thought of the silence that had surrounded her since his disappearance. "Everyone jumped to conclusions and presumed we were dating, but we weren't. We were just good friends that was all to it. But I have realised that maybe we weren't that good a friend, seeing that I haven't seen or heard from him for months. He's just disappeared from the planet. No one has seen him, no one knows anything. He hasn't returned any of my letters." She paused as she fought back a tear that threatened to spill. "Today, I sent him my last letter. I've come to the conclusion that he doesn't want anything more to do with me and I have accepted that." Kira gazed down at the ground, biting her lip as Derek's face flashed before her eyes. Shaking the image away, she looked back at Shaw, thinking that she may have embarressed both of them with her ramblings. "Did you er want to go get a drink or something? A coffee maybe?" Kira asked, giving Shaw a chance to make his get-away should he want it.

Shaw cleared his throat and nodded. A coffee would be good, especially for Kira. She looked like she was going to break down and cry any minute and Shaw was not a fan of crying of any sorts. He never knew what to do other then pat affectionately until it was all over. He could however empathise with Kira. Not knowing where someone is, was a wretched thing, but, thought Shaw to himself, at least she had a name and knew him. He didn't have any of that. "A coffee sounds good Kira." He said, scratching the back of his head. "Want to lead the way?"

Kira let out a final sigh and composed herself. "Sure. How does the Three Broomsticks sound?" She didn't wait for an answer, just spun on her heels and headed for the staircase. She had embarressed herself enough and the walk would help her cheer up a bit.

Shaw followed Kira, wondering to himself if this was a good idea or not. From what he had seen of Kira before today's meeting, she always seemed to be someone that could hold herself together. However, today he had seen another side to her. A vunerable side and although it drew Kira to him, it made him want to run for the hills also. "Yeah." Said Shaw, a little uncertain. "Broomsticks sounds good. Let's go." Wondering what he was letting himself in for, Shaw followed Kira, not knowing where the day was going to take him. magikal05.proboards46.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=threebr&thread=3280
