Cassie entered the library and looked around, relieved that she didn't see many people. She flashed a smile at the librarian to appease her and disappeared into the maze of bookshelves. She breathed in the familiar spell of ink and paper, and relaxed a little. Her recent encounter had put her on edge and although on the outside she seemed the same Cassie, on the inside she was in turmoil. She sighed and set to looking for the books she needed.

Jacob sulked into the library, keeping his head down so no one would be able to see the redness in them. It had been a couple of days since he had slept, and about two or three since the last time he had eaten. His stomach gave a roar, and he held it tight, though it didn't do much. He couldn't help not being this way though. Depression has a way of taking over a man. After his brief encounter with Cassie in the common room, Jacob had thought that things were looking up, but he had not heard from her since, and he......................well, he wasn't coping to well with it. Jacob shuffled into the rows of books, looking to just get lost in them. His back stiffened though, as he saw through the rows of books, Cassie trying to do the exact same thing. A look of wide-eyed panic enveloped his face, and he found that it was quite impossible to move.

Cassie felt someone watching her and looked up to see who it was. Her grey eyes settled on Jacob. She bit her lip, she had totally forgotten about him since Julius. She tucked a stray lock of her blond hair ebhind her ear and took a few steps towards Jacob. "Jacob I'm sorry" she said softly, looking down at the floor. "I haven't been well. I meant to talk to you" she said, letting her eyes hold his earnestly. "I haven't been myself" she added, wondering if it would give her away. She stood awkwardly, unsure of how to act.

Jacob could feel the anger pulsing in his veins, and he was on the verge on seeing red. His hands clenched up into fists, and he let out a loud sigh. "You have..................n.................no idea ho............how...........mu.................much pain you have......................" Jacob couldn't even finish his sentence, and he was beginning to stutter again. He turned away from Cassie shaking with rage. He didn't want to hurt her as he could see that she was already in enough pain as it was, but..............as angry as he was, he couldn't leave now because of that pain. He sighed, trying to calm himself down, and he turned slowly back towards her fighting tears in his eyes. "So...........so.............what........happ............happen.........happened to..............you any.......anyways. Yo...........you.............never.............show........showed..............you...............just left....................no word..........no.............." Jacob couldn't finish yet again. He stared at the ground, kicking his feet around, not sure what he was gonna do.

Cassie lowered her head as tears gathered in her eyes. She closed her eyes, trying to stay calm and not break down. "Jacob... I was ill. I had a fever" Cassie said weakly. The truth was she had met Julius that night. The thought that he had waited for her while she was in the woods crushed her. Cassie started to shake a little, everything had gone from perfect to disastrous in a day. "I'm sorry, I really am I never meant to hurt you" she whispered, still not being able to look at him as tears slipped down her cheeks. She wiped them away with a quivering hand and just stood there, numb and not knowing what to say to make it right.

As tough and angry as Jacob was right now, his heart melted a little as he saw the remorse in Cassie's eyes, and the tears flowing out of them. He sighed, and walked to her, taking her in his arms, and holding her tight. "I'm sorry I got so angry. I know you would never hurt anyone on purpose, and if you say that you were sick, then you were sick." Jacob smiled just a tad bit, and lifted her chin up, so that she looked into his eyes. "You look beautiful by the way. Did you do something new to your hair?" Jacob smiled a little wider, and wiped tears from Cassie's eyes. Yeah, you are officially whipped..........

Cassie hugged Jacob back and forced herself to relax in his arms. The last man who had held her floated into her mind but she pushed those thoughts away. Cassie's heart caught in her chest at his words, but she didn't correct him, as she knew it would jsut cause him more pain. Cassie giggled when he asked about her hair. "No but thanks" she said. "How can I make it up to you?" she asked, then lighted on an idea and a grin spread on her face. "How about I show you those leotards I mentioned?" she asked, her eyes dancing as they turned emerald.

As Cassie relaxed in his arms, and giggled a little, a tiny shred of doubt begin to infiltrate Jacob's mind. The actions seemed more forced than usual, and it felt like something was still bothering her. Jacob frowned a little, and was about to ask what was wrong when.....................All shred of doubt, all thoughts, all actions stopped immediately when Cassie mentioned that leotard again. He felt a little light-headed, and he grinned a very wide grin. He looked down at her, and could see a little smile on her face, and her emerald eyes sparkling. "Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.............looks like someone is in a friskey mood, not that I am complaining or anything. I would like nothing more than to see that leotard hun."

Cassie smiled and pushed her blond hair out of the way. "Then why don't I show you" she said, giggling about his remark on how she was frisky. Cassie knew that if she hadn't met Julius she wouldn't be doing this, but she pushed those thoughts down and focused on just pleasing Jacob.

Through Jacob's endless bliss at having Cassie in his arms, and suggesting she wear something a little more scandelous, a little torch of reason began to break through, and as he analyzed the situation he began to see that Cassie's actions were not really because she cared for him, although he knew she did to some degree, but because she might be hiding something. "Hun, is there anything you want to tell me, anything you might be afraid to let me know?"

Cassie shook her head, "Nope, why would there be?" she asked, linking her fingers through his and looking at him questioningly. What Cassie was unaware of was that her eyes were shifting again and were now a soft grey, a colour often associated with anxiety for Cassie.

Cassie's changing eyes did not escape notice from Jacob. He watched as they turned from the beautiful emerald into a slightly hazy grey. Jacob didn't know quite exactly what that meant, but he was willing to wager a guess. "Your lying to me. Why are you lying? What's going on?"

Cassie dropped Jacob's fingers and ran her own through her hair a little nervously. she looked at Jacob, "I'll explain if you really want me to, although I don't think you want me to. And I won't do it here." Cassie said, biting her lip. She couldn't tell Jacob, after what not showing up for their date had done to him, how could she drop that bombshell on him? She sighed and looked down at the ground. One moment of madness was causing her a lifetime of trouble, and that was before Cassie confronted the current situation with Julius. The thought that she had class with him soon made her feel sick to her stomach.

Watching how Cassie was reacting to his accusation, Jacob immediately began to feel horrible for even taking that kind of tone with her. He smiled, and took her hand. "It's okay hun. You don't have to tell me if you don't want to. I can see how sorry you are for ever doing it, whatever it was, and that is all the information I need. If you ever want to tell me though, I will be right here for you. I will always be here for you." Jacob smiled at her, and rubbed her cheek gently.

Cassie turned away, feeling worse than ever. She knew that if she told him, he would be acting totally different, but at that moment all Cassie wanted was to be held. Although it was someone else's arms she wanted around her, Cassie stepped forward and hugged Jacob, closing her eyes and laying her head on his shoulder. A single tear slid down her cheek, but she couldn't wipe it away.
