Chase's eyes flickered scarlet, then melted to an unsettled red-brown, betraying his thoughts to anyone who paid attention. "I did," he confessed. And that last day at the Quidditch Pitch, when he'd thought he had everything was burned into his mind no matter how many times he forced himself to relive the aftermath, the argument, and the knowledge that had sparked both. "But all that's over," Chase lied, the flicker of scarlet returning and wavering around his pupils. Maybe it was over, in a way, but even he couldn't justify that reasoning.

So that was it, well it explained everything. "oh ok, so what is your name?" It had just hit her that she didn't exactly know who he was, or at least what his name was. It stuck her quite strange that she had been having this conversation with a person who she hadn't even been introduced to.

Chase dragged his mind off the path it had been on, back to the girl standing in front of him. "Chase," he said, extending his hand for hers. "And you are?" She was attractive, but unfortunately, she seemed to have a habit of speaking her mind, and wasn't that what had ruined things with Storm?

Gwen smiled "That's a nice name, I'm Gwenhwyfar but you can call me Gwen if you want." She said happily looking around the room, the birds were a bit distracting, but that was probably because they were pretty and slightly loud.

"Gwen," Chase repeated, lifting her hand for a brief and completely uncalled-for kiss against the back. But it was nothing, he assured himself, releasing her. Harmless flirtation. "And who were you writing to, Gwen?" he asked.

Gwen blushed for a moment and smiled brightly "Oh just Brac, he's my brother...confuses me to no end though." She thought back to the letter that she had yet to figure out, hopefully he would write her back soon she really did want to know what this was all about.

"Hmm," Chase said noncommittally. He'd gotten a blush out of her, if nothing else. Chase looked absently around at the owls nearby. He had no interest in dragging information out of Gwen. Of course, he'd been easily bored and easily distracted lately.

Gwen smiled "So what are you doing up here." He didn't look like he had a letter with him so what was he doing up in the owlery. She looked at him trying to see if maybe she had missed something but see what she could have missed during this time.

Chase held up the hastily-tied scroll in his hand. "Writing home," he said, not bothering to go into the details. Not that there were many details. He sent a page full of b.s. and his parents left him alone for a while. It was pretty simple.

Gwen barely noticed that he didn't seem to be quite as happy about writing home as she usually was but then again she had noticed that people were rarely as happy as she was in most situations. It just seemed that she was special that way. "That's awesome, they must love hearing from you, I know I do."

Chase put on a smile that didn't reach his eyes. "Yeah, I'm sure they love it," he said, the words edged with sarcasm. As far as his parents were concerned, he was the heir to the name, and he was fine with that. He didn't like either of them enough to care. And since it had been brought up, Chase turned from Gwen to a nearby owl, tying the scroll to its leg. "Firebrand," he murmured by way of direction, leaving it at that. The owl took off, and Chase watched it soar up and out of the owlery before considering his duty done.
