"I figured I'd stay out of the way of Jess and get some work done while I'm at it. My dormmates were having a row when I was in there, and I needed somewhere peaceful." Reed answered. She studied Gabby for a moment, but not in a rough kind of way. "What about you?"

"I was trying to somewhere which was slytherin free. I think I found the only place. what work? We haven't had lessons in weeks, we have no teachers." Time had been spent swimming or relaxing and reveling in the freedom not normally found here.

"Some makeup work I haven't finished yet." Reed looked over at the pile of books next to her. "I missed quite a few days before the break and I decided to procrastinate to make it up." She explained.

Gabby smiled, she knew the feeling. "Well until about two weeks ago I hadn't been here in about two months but I haven't done any work. I suppose without professors to motivate me I find other things to do with my time." Recently one of those things had been very enjoyable and Gabby smiled a the memories.

"I come from yorkshire. I'm half blood and my father runs a horse training centre so I grew up around horses. I have my own, her name's Rain." Gabby felt that it was easy to talk to Reed and she was glad she had the chance to get to know her better.

"That sounds lovely." Reed said. "My brother, sister and I have grown up in the states. We lived in Conneticut for a while but ended up moving to Maine with our uncle a few years ago. It was rough because he was always so protective of me, but he wasn't so good at being a guardian. He never had to before, I guess. Anyways, I picked up the slack but it was mostly for my younger sister. Jess could really take care of himself. But he did help, a lot. He got a job at a dock working with the shipments of seafood. Mostly lobsters and stuff." Reed said as she smiled. Together her family was so messed up, they were happy.

Gabby smiled, "Well I have a little sister called Kate." and rather hesitantly Gabby continued, "I also had an older half brother, but he was killed years ago. But not before he could do this to me." Gabby said rather casually as she showed Reed the four inch scar running along her collar bone.

"Oh, wow!" Reed exclaimed in shock. "I am so sorry." She said both for her loss and the pain she must've gone through before the loss. She was grateful she didn't have to go through that, though she had gone through many horrid things in her life.

"Well I wasn't that close with him, he lived with his father and we saw him rarely, Kate doesn't even know he existed, or that I have this scar. It happened when I was 8, Justin kidnapped me. Though the rest is fuzzy, I think i deliberately erased the memory." Gabby recounted the tale with no emotion, the past few weeks' events had taught her how to avoid showing emotion.

Reed nodded. "You were so young to have to experience that." She almost whispered. Even though Gabby had said she had erased the memory, the thought must still haunt her.

"I get nightmares of it, that was when I met your brother, I was running away from the memories. I had woken up and couldn't sleep." Gabby answered. Gabby briefly closed her eyes, she was so tired she felt like falling asleep there and then, but she couldn't, Gabby wanted to get to know Reed better and form a solid friendship with her.

Reed noticed how worn out Gabby looked. "Have you asked anybody for help about it?" She suggested lightly. "I've heard about special witches who brew potions to try to solve exactly that kind of problem."

"No, it seems silly, it happened years ago, Justin was killed soon after so it's not like he can do it again and I would have no idea where to start looking for help." Gabby sighed and rubbed her eyes, trying to keep awake.

Reed nodded sympathetically. "You look beat." She said when Gabby rubbed her eyes. She felt like she should offer her help, but she didn't want to get Gabby's hopes up. Potions were not exactly her specialty.
