Trying to Think

[Emilian Sota]

Emilian wandered aimlessly around the castle, unsure exactly of where he was headed, just knowing that anything was better than sitting in Gryffindor tower (how had he even been stuck in that place with those imbiciles?) like he had been for the past few hours. His head was slightly down as he walked, his legs moved slowly but his boots still clunked on the stone floors. The steady sound helped him to think, to sort out the thoughts that raced through his mind whenever it wasn't taken by something, or someone, else.

Adara's eyes brightened as she turned a corner and spotted Emilian. She smiled, and almost called out to him before recalling all that Dru had told her. She chewed her lip a moment in indecision before turning to the friend she was walking with, hoping for some support, one way or another. She hadn't told Annabelle all the things she had heard, nor her own feelings.

"Who's that?" Annabelle asked Adara quietly, noticing the reaction her friend had to the person they were approaching. She'd never met him, and assumed he was new too.

Emilian looked up at the question, he had been so invested in his thoughts that he hadn't heard the two girls walking. His eyes gleamed, "Adara, so good to see you." He continued walking, though sped up a fraction. He wasn't able to stop himself looking over the other girl as well, but was able to make it a quick glance before focusing back on Adara.

"Emilian," Adara said, a bit more breathlessly than she realized. She clutched her books against her chest and looked somewhat helplessly at Anna. She could not possibly voice her worries when Emilian might hear! She chewed her lip a moment before deciding that she could do no other than be polite. "Annabelle, this is Emilian. Emilian, my friend Annabelle." She prayed that he would not notice her subtle omission of the word friend in his own introduction.

Annabelle sensed Adara's hesitation, and decided to do her best to ease it however she could. She'd have to play it by ear. "Hi Emilian, I don't think I've met you before." She held out her hand for him to shake, imediately wondering why she'd done such a formal gesture.

Emilian grinned at Adara before taking Annabelle's hand, "It's a pleasure," he said, bringing her knuckles up as if to kiss them but stopping short, instead tilting his head to her. The gesture and introduction gave him leave to look her up and down, "Do you know Michael, by any chance?" he asked. He had heard the name Annabelle in relation to Michael and knew she was a Ravenclaw.

Despite her discomfort, Adara was watching Emilian closely. She missed the look he gave Anna, but saw the usual elegant gesture of taking her hand. He'd stopped just short of kissing her. Did it mean what she hoped? Had Emilian been courting her? Adara couldn't seem to remind herself about Dru's warnings.

Annabelle noticed him looking her over, and didn't particularly like it. She was glad when the moment ended and she was able to take her hand back. "Yes, he's my boyfriend. How do you know him?" She asked, wondering if perhaps Michael had met Emilian and brought her up. A smile came to her lips at the thought that Michael would talk about her.

"We're old friends, ever since we were very young," he said, smiling at her. Now that he knew who she was, he knew who to avoid anything with physically. When talking to Pandora Emilian had made a subconscious promise to not go after Michael's girlfriend. Knowing now that Annabelle was out of bounds, for the moment at least, he let his eyes wander back over to Adara.

Adara had ceased worrying, and her eyes were bright again as Emilian looked at her. "I have not met Michael," Adara said. She turned briefly back to Anna, lowering her books out of their protective position, until they hung with her hands near the level of her hips. "You have not met Emilian before?" she asked. It seemed strange, if he and Michael were such friends, and Michael was close with Anna.

Anna looked at Adara before turning back to Emilian as she replied, wondering what is reaction would be. "No, I've never even heard of him. Michael's never mention you at all. Were your families close?" She wondered if Michael hadn't mentioned Emilian because he was part of his life before he'd changed and he was trying to distance himself from his past.

It was good that she hadn't met Michael, the second Adara met Michael or Savannah he was done for. "Yes," he answered, figuring that if Annabelle was Michael's girlfriend that she probably knew his past. It was a risk saying that they were close, but he didn't have much of a choice. "We've been out of contact for a while, that may be why he hasn't mentioned me."

Emilian's last statement triggered a hastily-buried memory, accompanied by Dru's parting plea for Adara to be cautious. She'd said that he wasn't actually friends with any of the girls he'd mentioned. Now, when he claimed a friendship, Anna said that she hadn't even heard of him. She looked at Emilian now with the caution she'd promised, light fading slightly from her eyes as she shifted ever slightly closer to Annabelle.

"That's probably why then." Annabelle said lightly, but the news made her cautious of him. She was afraid of Michael's past, of his dad and most of his family even though she'd never met any of them. For him to say he was connected to them was enough for her to wish Michael was there to answer her questions. "Did you just transfer here then?"
