Vannah had crept down to the kitchen. She tickled the pear and headed in. Vannah walked over to her usual seat by the countertop and had been so used to the cowering houselves, that she almost didn't notice them. Vannah had been on the downside recently and tried to stay out of the way of everyone else. Almost instantly after she sat down, a plate of sweets and treats appeared in front of her. Vannah picked at the food. She had an appetite for something she couldn't taste.

Gabby had woken from the same nightmare yet again and as she was now awake, she was also hungry. She padded through the hall until it was time to tickle the peach. She went in and had taken a few steps when she realised she wasn't alone. She looked up and saw Vannah sitting there. Immediately Gabby realised she didn't have her wand and wouldn't be able to protect herself if Vannah chose to repeat what had happened earlier and this time there was no Ryan to save her. Gabby went and sat on the other side of the kitchen and waited until a mug of hot chocolate and a plate of biscuits had been brought to her, she didn't even bother to say hello to Vannah.

Vannah's head shot up as she head the entrance creak open. She grabbed her wand, waiting for the intruder to arrive. When they finally did, she saw that it was Gabbrielle. Vannah rolled her eyes and kept her wand by her side. She glared at the girl as she walked over to the other side of the room. The little house elf who had brought Gabby her food was trembling, and she must have noticed Vannah's hateful glare for the girl since it scurried off with one quick glance at Vannah.

Gabby looked up to see that Vannah's gaze was upon her, "Hi," Gabby said, testing the water to see what sort of reaction she would get. She gave Vannah a small, open smile.

Vannah was silent for a moment as she let her bitterness hang in the air. "Why are you here?" She asked plainly. She didn't feel it was necessary to explain her question or what she meant. Her tone was low and dark. For the first person Vannah had a conversation with in a few days, she was not impressed.

"I couldn't sleep," Gabby said warily but not letting her tone of voice give her away. "Whenever I can't sleep a mug of hot chocolate is gernerally all i need," Gabby paused a little, "I didn't know anyone else would be here."

"No. You shouldn't be here." Vannah determined. "Last time I saw you I casted a spell on you. Shouldn't you be in the Hospital Wing or dead or something?" Her tone stayed the same, never quavered, never changed pitches and she only emphasized 'dead' slightly. She continued to glare at the girl.

Gabby realized that Vannah hadn't sen what had happened down by the lake. She looked at Vannah and softly said, "You cast the spell at me, but it wasn't me who it hit. Ryan dove in front of me so it was him who got hit, he took the spell for me so that I wasn't hurt, to save me. I levitated him up to the hospital wing and looked after him. I've left him resting there." Gabby said it gently, she didn't want to shock Vannah.

The news hit Vannah hard, but she was too stubborn to let it show on the outside. To cover up, Vannah popped a grape into her mouth. She was tempted to ask about Ryan, but resisted. "Bummer." She ended up saying which didn't nearly express what she felt.

"You think," Gabby couldn't stop it, all her anger at Vannah just came bubbling out of her uncontrollably.
"It's awfu;, it's terrible, how could you have done such a thing? Do you really hate me that much? Ok, so you may not like me, sure I shot a few spells at you which wasn't a good thing to do and yes I am going out with Ryan who is several years older than me.
But all i meant that night by the lake was a bit of fun, those spells only hurt your pride and dignity. I have hated myself over and over again for what I did to you, I really have. And you have no right to object to me and Ryan, we have done nothing wrong. We didn't start going out until you two were fully over. If you feel that we did something wrong that's your problem!
And because of that, Ryan is now lying in the hospital wing seriously hurt, you could have made him bleed to death!"
Gabby was finally finished but the tears were pouring out due to anger and frustration and the pain she felt in empathy for Ryan. Gabby was breathing hard and dared to look Vannah in the eye. During her rant the house elfs had disappeared so they were alone together.

Vannah thought she should feel even a twang of sympathy for Gabrielle, but she didn't. In fact, she almost felt bad for not feeling bad for her. Vannah sood up and crossed her arms over her shoulder. "You don't know. You don't know what it's like loving someone for the first time in the world. You are perfectly fine the way you are and then someone rips it all out in front of you." This time, she wasn't talking about Ryan and Gabby, but her own misfortune. "You are stuck between running away and leaving what you loved and running to the one you loved. And then you choose the wrong one and hope to make it better. You ignore everyone around you and continue to listen to your mind. Then finally, you want to make it right. You don't know how. Then the one person who told you you were the only one he wanted to be with is with someone else. Even after he cheated on you. After you forgave him. Not only someone else. The one person who couldn't be more different." Vannah stopped and took a breath. She had realized she had forgotten to during her rant.
"One day you'll learn. I hope you won't know exactly what it feels like, but you might have an idea. I hope you won't have to go what I went through. You won't be violated like I was, but even though I may not handle it the right way, I know how to handle. "
"I could've made him died, it could'v'e been you, but he isn't dead and it wasn't you. Maybe it was foolish and wrong, but it's done and there's no way to change that. You can't walk into my life and think everything will be okay with us just because you think what you did was right. How do you know he wasn't lying? You think he won't lie to you? Funny, I thought the same thing."
Vannah studied the girl. "This is pathetic. You won't even look at me." She added under her breath, "Coward."

Gabby raised her chin and looked Vannah in the eyes.
"You don't think I know what its like? You don't think that maybe i do know what you went through and that maybe I could possible have some idea?" Gabby was getting louder, she was almost shouting.
"I love Ryan, he is the first person that I have truly loved. After my grandmother died I was in pieces, I couldn't return to school because I dissolved into tears every 5 seconds. When i did return I met Ryan. Things were wonderful, I felt human again. I felt safe, loved and cared for."
Gabby had been shouting and she was breathing hard.
"I know what happened to you Vannah, and I'm really sorry that it did. But you're not the only one who has been hurt." Gabby pulled her shirt down to show her scar, running along her collar bone it was about 4 inches long. "Do you think that this didn't hurt? That it hasn't only scarred me on the outside but on the inside as well. I have nightmares about what happened, I can't sleep I'm too restless, that was why I was by the lake that night. I had been reliving that terrible time."
Gabby looked Vannah right in the eye. "So how dare you make out that you're the only one who has been hurt."
Gabby had finally finished. She left her hot chocolate untouched, shook her head and walked to the door.

Vannah stared after her and after a while she sat back down. To burn off her anger, Vannah terrorized some of the house elves.
Vannah heatedly walked out the door and down the corridors.
