Emilian chuckled and pushed back away from the counter. "Andy, I'm sure you can manage it, but how about you bring your parents in here, and then maybe we can figure out a plan, okay?" At least that way he'd be able to get some collateral or a cosigner or something to make sure the desperate kid, kid, didn't run off and leave him footing the whole bill.

Andy's jaw tensed, and for a moment he seethed. When he finally spoke it was with the intention of anger, but it just wasn't possible to hold back the hurt. "I can't bring my parents," he said. "My mom's in St. Mungo's for the rest of her life because she forgets I ever existed as soon as I'm out of her sight. That's what this is for! And I don't even know who my dad is! I'm on my own, I'm used to being on my own, and... and if you don't want my business, just say so!"

"You want this, I want to sell it to you, but telling me you don't have your parents doesn't help your case, because that means you're either on your own or in foster care, right? Trust me, I've had a helluva life, you aren't going to guilt trip me into backing down. Someone is responsible for you, bring 'em here, and then we can talk," Emilian said. Then he released a sigh and closed his eyes briefly. "Look, I'm sorry, but I can't risk it."

Andy glared as fiercely as he could. This was totally... ageist or something. He'd been taking care of himself his whole life and he couldn't buy jewelry unless he dragged in Rhys and Matthew? They'd already spent more money on him and Tam than probably all the rest combined. "You're not sorry," he spat at the guy. "And I don't need your pity." He slammed the catalog shut and headed for the door.
