Samson was much much more worried about his book than any slung insults. The book had cost more of his allowance than he would admit, and he stood quickly in hopes of saving it from further abuse. "I'm surprised you can even read!" he dared to say. Porthios gave an uncharacterisyic hiss from his place around Samson's neck.

Asher's face squeezed into an expression of horrific offense. What had been teasing before was now actually personal. "You filth!" he spat. "You're the one reading about wizards who couple with house-elves and you have the audacity to insult us? I'll kick your f~ing arse for that!" He drew his wand.

Aerion drew his wand as well. To think, he'd almost felt pity for the way his brother had treated this unnatural being. Whereas his brother was defending his honor against the guy, Aerion aimed his wand at the book. A nice Flagrate would get rid of that trash.

It was chance and more chance that Andy was near enough to hear the commotion. He'd been at Blackwood Farm for a week, and before that on Diagon Alley with what he was almost considering more family than foster. But he had schoolwork to catch up on during the summer and one particular assignment had required a brief research visit to the Black Lake.
"What are you doing?!" he called. Should he go over there? Should he run? Should he draw his wand and risk blowing himself up when the Healer was off-campus? He was dressed in jeans and a shirt, didn't have much makeup on, but he'd been hurt enough times to know that just interrupting was asking for trouble.

Without a thought for his own safety, Samson had pulled his wand, as well, and now that there was another person, he hoped the twins would be distracted enough to let his "accio book" slip in in time. He barely even considered the newcomer as he focused on the book and a spell he'd only just learned in class. "You're really stupid if you think muggles would write about house-elves!" he said indignantly.

"And what other kinds of elves are there?" Asher demanded. He ignored the interloper and readied himself to shoot a particularly vicious spell at the insolent Muggle-lover's chest. Or maybe his groin. Either way, it would teach the little nerd a lesson.

Aerion hadn't managed to blast the book into ashes, but he'd at least caught one end of the spine on fire. The moment he took to be sure of it was another moment that nervous-sounding interloper got to be ignored. "Go away," Aerion called back. "This is none of your business!"

Those moments of being ignored had given Andy all the time he needed to make his decision. He was no longer unsure what the brunettes were doing or that the blonde guy was in trouble, and not a single wand was pointed in his direction. He dropped his book bag, lunged into a sprint, and aimed to tackle the one who'd actually responded to him.

At first Samson was too focused on ensuring as little of his precious book was ruined as possible to notice what was happening, and when the book was no longer on fire and he caught the movement of the other guy out of the corner of his eye, his jaw dropped slightly in surprise. That wasn't what he'd expected. His wand was loose in his hand and Porthios was now wrapped snugly, but safely, around his neck to watch what was happening.

Asher nearly toppled when his brother and another guy fell against him, and his spell went wild, shooting harmlessly out over the water. His eyes widened and when he had his feet again, he swore and took a step back. "Get off my brother!" he shouted. He was too stunned by the display of Muggle fisticuffs that he forgot he had any ability to fight back.

"AAAAAAAAGH!" Were those fists pummeling into him? How did anyone have that many fists?! "Let me go! Let me go, I'll leave, I'm sorry! Oh my God, Julien help me!"

It was a hell of a lot more than fists pummeling into Thing 2. Andy was too small to fight fair, so there were also knees, shortly-cropped nails, and a headbutt before he managed to get the guy's wand. The moment he had it, he lunged off the ground to knock Thing 1's feet out from under it. A swift kick and he popped up. The wand in his hand got thrown in a huge arc toward the water.
"RUN," he shouted to the blonde and, taking his own advice, he bolted toward his bookbag to grab on his way.

Samson's eyes remained wide in shock for a heartbeat longer before he started off. All he had with him was his book, snake, and wand, so that momentary hesitation was all that stood between him and running after the other guy. It wasn't as though he'd never seen fights before, but he'd definitely never had anyone suddenly jump in on his behalf like that. "Why'd you do that?" he called over at the guy, unwilling to stop or look behind him until he was sure they were far, far away from the bullies behind them.

"I don't know!" Andy shouted back. He continued pumping his legs until they were too lost to be found, especially considering the head start he'd given them by throwing Thing 2's wand. When he finally stopped, he leaned forward, hands resting just above his knees, and tried to pull deep breaths.
"I just... I... I've been cornered, and..." He tried to slow his breathing a little, before he got too dizzy. "It sucks." And the blonde hadn't been fighting back. He'd just been standing there talking, as though words would stop what was about to happen. Andy could see a fight coming a mile away.

Samson was breathing heavily, too, unused to actual physical exertion, and he looked toward where they'd come from, half-expecting the twins to appear at any second. "Well...thanks," he said. "You didn't have to, most wouldn't have done anything." He clutched his book close, wondering if it would always smell subtly of cinders. "I'm Samson Callahan Koster." His mother's habit of using her full name had rubbed off on him long ago.
