The window seat was exactly the right place to sit, and Cat made himself comfortable. His gaze flicked out into the street and he leaned close to the window a moment just to see how far down the view went. Then he turned to tuck in and noticed a ring on Mano's hand.
"I hadn't heard you were married," he said, gesturing toward it. He smothered any amusement he might have gotten out of the seemingly-innocent question in a large bite of lunch.

Mano missed any telling signs from his companion as he settled into his seat, his familiar roguish smile on his lips. "Ah yes," he said, looking fondly down at his ring. Wearing it really was a treat. "Top secret information, strictly need to know basis. Although, mine is less five foot three vixen and more deceptively lazy Adonis."

"Really," Cat asked glancing across the table. "Most of the wizarding world is totally against same-sex marriage." And yet Mano had been perfectly open about his Adonis. Cat was now curious, and he didn't bother hiding it. "Or is that why you work instead of sitting around with Society?"

Mano took a long sip of his hot drink before he responded. "Working was originally just a fun experiment, but I've always enjoyed people and found it suited me. I'm still involved in Society, I just prefer all of this..." he waved a hand absently. "Interaction. It's interesting. Even for someone like me, Society does get boring." And now with the marriage he in many ways identified with the non-Society population more. Sometimes.

Mano had picked a topic and ignored the other as though it didn't exist, and Cat had no desire to force it. "I couldn't sit still long enough to bother with Society crap," Cat said. "Putting on dress robes feels like I'm about to be hanged." A surprise to no one. "My brother loves it, but he's a kid and doesn't know any better."

"Bah, it can be fun. You just can't take any of it too seriously." And speaking of hanging, Eros might want to hang him for that. The thought sent another smile across Mano's face. "Have fun, play the game, and when you get bored seduce the nearest, best and most fun looking person in dress robes." Or imperius the band director, but that was probably best left unsaid.

Cat's lips curved into a grin at the humor in Mano's voice. "Tell me, how do you have fun pretending to have a stick up your ass and only saying what you're supposed to?" The only part of that which he'd really understood was seduce. He could do that with a look and a few words. "You're strapped into ten pounds of robes, you make polite small-talk about politics and you dance with at least a hand's width between you and your partner."

Well, first of all, I look damn sexy in dress robes," Mano said, as if that made all the difference in the world. "All of those rules are part of the fun." He took another long drink before setting his mug down. Elbows settled on the table to leave his hands free to aid in his speech.
"You look across the room and see a prim blushing miss or a young man who thinks you don't catch him looking and decide that is what you want. Then your goal is to win your prize without overstepping the boundaries of the rules. How much innuendo can you put into polite conversation? How quickly can you make their heart beat with a well-placed touch?" What went on beneath the surface was the fun.

"Ah," Cat said. "I'd rather just let loose. Turn the music up and just get lost in the crowd. Bodies everywhere just moving, and you never know what'll happen next. Maybe you flirt with everyone and it doesn't go anywhere, maybe someone turns into a rhino and knocks five people over." He shrugged, then took a sip of really excellent tea. "So your Adonis is totally cool with you still being on the prowl?"

"Being in a crowd can be fun, too, don't get me wrong, I just...enjoy the hunt. The game of it all," Mano said, then leaned back in his seat and looked out the window. Cat's question made him pause to think.
"He's known me for years and always knew I wasn't likely to be permanently monogamous. As long as I do nothing behind his back we are okay." And besides, flirting didn't necessarily mean anything. "I suppose it would be safe to assume you don't have the same arrangement?" he asked, glancing back toward Cat.

Cat shook his head. "My lady keeps me satisfied," he said. "I just try to keep up." His eyes glittered with what amounted to a tease. Their physical compatibility was as good as it got. "We might look, might even look together, but we're going home together too." And neither of them had any issues with harmless flirting. Somehow it worked, and if either of them wanted something different, they'd change things up.

Mano heaved an exaggerated sigh. Some people missed so many of life's benefits. Then his eyes turned wistful as his thoughts continued down the meandering path of wishful thinking. "If only I could get someone else in bed with the two of us," he said. He had hoped that perhaps their previous agreement would result in his two favorite people joining him, but alas it had never come to fruition.
